PROGRESS ON FREELAND RESERVE UPGRADE Kāinga Ora has been working closely with Healthy Waters (Auckland Council) to plan stormwater upgrades within Freeland Reserve. These upgrades will significantly decrease flooding and improve water quality to the area, and allow us to carry out additional overall improvements to the reserve and its amenities. Construction is expected to take about 18 months to complete, with the first stage involving stormwater upgrades, beginning soon. In the coming weeks you will notice some activity in Freeland Reserve as Piritahi, who are delivering the project, begin bringing people and equipment on site to prepare for construction. Early works will include the closure of the reserve, installation of temporary storage facilities, fencing, and sediment and erosion controls. Once the entire Freeland Reserve upgrade is complete, residents can expect a new paved walkway, footbridges, a viewing platform and new landscaping including native vegetation along the stream bed, which is part of Te Auaunga Awa (Oakley Creek). These highly anticipated upgrades will also directly link to the improvement of Freeland Avenue and the creation of ‘Play Street’, all of which will create the framework for a healthier and safer community.
