MANGERE WEST PROGRESS UPDATE Spring 2020

MANGERE DEVELOPMENT WELCOMES THE PRIME MINISTER Monday 31 August marked a memorable move back to Level 2 for our Mangere Development team, who were honoured to host Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, MP for Tāmaki Makaurau Hon Peeni Henare, and MP for Mangere Hon Aupito William Sio for a development tour and progress update.

We started with a walk through one of the 65 newly completed state homes at the Bader McKenzie complex, which gave the group an opportunity to view one of the new warm, dry apartments first-hand ahead of tenants moving in. Several tenants have already settled into their

new terrace homes within the complex, and got quite a buzz from seeing the Prime Minister in their backyard.

The touring party also viewed the major civils work underway on Bader Drive, to prepare for the construction of more state, KiwiBuild and market homes - the first KiwiBuild homes are expected to go to market around October 2020.

Construction activity on Kāinga Ora sites continued throughout COVID-19 Alert Level 3 and below, and we were proud to share this great progress on behalf of Kāinga Ora and the Mangere community.

Bader McKenzie community viewing day Thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday 1 August to view the 65 brand new state homes at the Bader McKenzie complex. It was great to share the new complex with the Mangere community and people enjoyed a walk through the new homes and talk to the team about the other activity in the area. We had great feedback about how spacious the homes are, and visitors were also really impressed by the cool playground and bbqs at the shared community space. Tenants have been moving into the complex, and we hope they’re all loving life in their new warm, dry homes!

Stage 2 house removals underway You may have noticed that houses being removed on Elmdon Street (Hall Ave side of Tararata Creek), which started in early August, and removal of more old state homes will continue in the area for several months. Stage 1 of the development is well underway.

65 new state homes on the corner of Bader Drive and McKenzie Road are complete and tenants have moved into their new homes.

The first market and affordable homes to be built as part of Stage 1 are expected to begin late 2020.

MEET TANA COMMUNITY LIAISON ADVISOR FOR MANGERE

What does your role involve?

My role as Community Liaison Advisor involves communicating and engaging with the community and relevant stakeholders around the specifics of the Piritahi civils programme, and supporting local engagement with the construction programme. I’m the first port of call for enquiries and issues relating to the construction and civil work in the neighbourhood.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy being out and about in the community, talking to people and problem solving. I love people and I also love chatting, and this role provides me with plenty of opportunity to do both.

What were you doing previously?

Prior to this I was the Business Manager at The 312 Hub in Onehunga, working with youth and supporting them in their creative fields.

What do you like doing outside of the office?

In no particular order, my favourite things to do are go to the gym, bake and spend time with my daughter.

Spending time with my daughter looks like baking, going to the park, bike rides, visiting family and friends… she asks me 21 questions and I manage to answer about two of them!
