What’s up everyone this is my portfolio! I am a graduate from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Visual Communications, so in very simple terms, I love to draw and take pretty pictures.

Do I know what I want to do in life? No, not yet but being given the opportunity to explore the many parts of my major has allowed me to become well versed in multiple different skill sets. Go ahead and take a look!

Magazine Design

Simple, yet modern cover design for a magazine. The photography on the front is a piece of film work called ‘Path Worth Taking’.

Finding Jobs Design

Inspired by the very cluttered billboards found across college campuses this design, created for The Daily Gamecock, shows a board filled with information involving finding a job.

Halloween Infographic

An infographic displaying information on how Halloween has become a more adult focused holiday.

The design choices for this infographic were meant to feel mature and sophisticated by using a very neutral color scheme.

Ray Tanner Home Run 12K

The Ray Tanner Home Run 12k infographic displays information on the race by using a simplistic design that highlights the course participants will take.

Food Carry-Out Tray

This would be a good fit for food businesses who want their carry-out trays to be more appealing and carry a trendier aesthetic. When drawing this I wanted it to have that very simple, hand drawn look to create a more personalized feel.

Pedal Parlor

This is a possible rebranding for a Columbia, SC company. The goal with these designs was to create a fun and bright atmosphere that will attract potential customers. I chose a slight complimentary color scheme to ensure that all colors were as vibrant as possible. The mocked-up coasters were used as Pedal Parlor is alcoholic beverage-based business along with brochures as they are easy for potential customers to pick up and can be placed at multiple locations in Columbia.

Logo Process

The first logo that I created was very contrast heavy and had too many different elements within it.

Wanting to simplify the logo I focused on the main factors (pedaling and drinking) and worked on a second draft. This second draft fit my idea much better and incorporated a beer glass and a bike. Though this logo was closer it did not match the design of my poster and looked incohesive with the branding I had already completed. The third logo attempted was much closer to the final layout that I went with, and it incorporated more of the poster style within the highlights in the beer.

My final version involved taking Pedal Parlor bike design from my poster and incorporating it into my logo. I also included where Pedal Parlor was founded. I took the font for “Pedal Parlor” from my poster and used it in the logo to tie the two together.

UI/UX

Plant? Website Design/Mock-up

This was a personal project that I completed in order to gain more experience creating high functioning websites. The main intent of this project was to display my understanding of Adobe XD along with other skills like the ability to illustrate and create a user-friendly website.

Elements

The hand drawn elements create a more unique viewing experience for the user while matching the aesthetic of the website. Each plant is consistent with the style of the pots and buttons created.

I drew five different plants along with four different pots and a ‘dirt’ option. The selection for these pots is fully interactive and you can toggle through just like you would be able to online.

Ballyhoo! Website

Ballyhoo! is an American reggae rock band that I created a perspective website redesign for. While keeping the feel of the original website I created a better hierarchy of information and made certain aspects look more modern and user friendly.

Sustainability Social Media Campaign

As someone who wants to become more sustainable, easily accessible information is greatly appreciated. That is why I created this Instagram post that tells viewers five ways to be more sustainable.

Video

Silent Film

This was a video that I created to show how depression can feel to some people. In this video I show some things like wanting to lay in bed, struggling with motivation, and lack of appetite. The film starts off in black and white, the subject is just going through the motions.

In the end of the video the subjects take medicine, though this is not always what makes everyone feel better, the world becomes colorful again has the subject feels more like themselves.

When creating this video, I worked hard on creating smooth transitions to make the movement of the video flow very well as if you are truly watching from the outside.

Documentary

This is a documentary on K and T Designs, a jewelry business currently located in Lexington, South Carolina. Throughout the film the creator and owner of the company, Heidi Kokes, talks about how she came up with the idea and how she has grown her business.

This is one of the more challenging styles of photography that I have ever practiced, my knowledge of ‘Manual Mode’ was really tested. This difficulty allowed me to strengthen that skill and better myself in both film and digital photography.

Protest Photo Just looking at this photo there is a lot of context clues on what’s happening here. You have signs, people yelling, and recording; it is obviously a more tense situation, something is happening here. Many students here at U of SC are aware of this protest that happened in August of 2020, the man decked out in M.A.G.A. gear and a sign that read “BLM ARE RACIST THUGS” screaming his beliefs at the crowd of students on Green Street. Everyone present on campus was aware of this event, and many students were upset that he was allowed to stay and say what he was saying on our campus. Many students stood against him, they argued back, or like in this picture held a mask up; they are the reason this photo matters. The man was not originally wearing a mask and when he put one on that went with his agenda this girl approached him with a U of SC mask and held it up to his face which stopped his message from being spread. Why is this significant?

Because of what U of SC stands for, our Carolina Creed with “I will discourage bigotry, while striving to learn from differences in people, ideas, and opinion”, “I will respect the dignity of all persons”, and “I will demonstrate concern for others, their feelings, and their need for the conditions which support their work and development”, this man who came onto our campus went against everything the University of South Carolina stands for. The student in this picture was upholding what we as a university represent.

‘Saving Yourself’ Photo Story

This is a story is about escaping a toxic and unhealthy relationship.

When creating this photo story one of my main focus’ was to have symbolism and repetition throughout it.

In the second image (top row) you can see that the female subject in the photo has her fingers crossed as a sign of breaking a promise. Her husband saying, “I’ll see you when I get home” and her reciprocating but it not being true. The second image (third row, second photo) uses long exposure to show that there is a sense of urgency in what the wife is doing.

The last image (bottom row) shows her smiling in the mirror while holding her veil outside the window, finally free from her abuser.

Studio Portraits

The first two photos (top left and right) were inspired by the ‘Princess locked in a tower’ trope.

The photo on the far right has been edited in Photoshop to have a golden hour look to it.

Mindful Photography When it came to taking these five photos I was going with the theme ‘Remembrance’ and worked on finding things in my day-to-day life that I will often refer back to on a day-to-day basis. I am not sure what people gather from these photos when they look at them for the first time as they just look like some girls cluttered and unorganized mess, but each photo holds meaning and items that stands for something. With struggling with mental health, I realized that surrounding myself with things that make me feel good and memories that I cherish has helped a lot. In the first photo (1) I keep a wall of random items like a note from my best friend to a gift from someone I photographed, even a concert wristband. The second photo (2) isn’t much different but more of a compilation of all the roommates’ memories together. Surrounding yourself with positive things and having those daily reminders creates such a positive impact on your mental health as you just subconsciously get happy when remembering them.

Product Photography

These photos show the process I took in order to get a golden hour photo with a window print across the photo. The set up (1) shows a make-shift studio set up; it consists of a beige knit blanket, a lamp, and some fake vines. The original photo (2) was then edited to be darker (3) which I edited for the final mage. To achieve the final photo (4) I took the dark image into photoshop and added the window.

Sports Photography

Sports photography in my opinion is one of the most rewarding forms of photography; getting that action shot during a tense game is something else.

Concert Photography

The photos shown in this section were taken for the bands ‘Fitz and the Tantrums’ and ‘Angry Chairs’.

Photographing concerts has increased my skill of working in a constantly changing environment.
