El Leon y la Liebre Un Cuento Popular Africano
Once upon a time Lion,
the King of the Jungle, grew very ill. He was too weak to hunt, so he came up with a clever idea. He told all the animals that he was about to die and wished to see each of them one last time.
Érase una vez un León,
Rey de la Selva, que se enfermó. Se volvio tan débil que no podía cazar, así que se le ocurrió una gran idea. Llamó a todos los animales y les dijo que estaba a punto de morir y le gustaria verlos a todos una ultima vez.

The first animal to arrive
was Antelope. When he got to Lion’s cave, Lion pounced and ate him, and Antelope was never seen again. The same happened to Buffalo, Zebra, Buck and many others.
El primer animal en llegar
fue Antílope. Apenas llegó a la cueva de León, éste se abalanzó sobre él y se lo comió, y nadie lo volvió a ver. Después le pasó lo mismo a Búfalo, Cebra, Ciervo, y muchos más.

Hare noticed that all
the animals that visited Lion were missing. She was curious, so she set off for Lion’s place. As she got closer to his cave, she noticed something strange.
La Liebre se dio cuenta
que todos los animales que visitaron a León habían desaparecido. Tenía curiosidad, así que partió hacia la casa de León. Al acercarse a su cueva, ella notó algo extraño.

Hare found Lion and asked
“Why are there so many footprints going into your cave and none leaving?” Lion realized Hare had figured out what he’d done, so he leaped into the air to eat her.
Liebre finalmente encontró
a León y le preguntó: “¿Por qué hay tantas huellas entrando a tu cueva y ninguna saliendo?” León se dio cuenta que Liebre había descubierto su plan, así que saltó en el aire para devorarla.

But Hare was much too fast. She avoided Lion’s attack, escaped his cave and sped away, quick as lightning.
Pero Liebre era demasiado
ágil. Escapó del ataque de León y salió de su cueva corriendo, tan rápida como un rayo.

Hare started telling others what Lion had done. Soon, everyone in the jungle knew Lion was responsible for the disappearance of their friends and relatives.
La Liebre le contó a todos
lo que había hecho León. Pronto toda la jungla sabía que León era responsable por la desaparición de sus amigos y familiares.

Because of Hare, Lion was
unable to trick anyone else. Now he had neither supper nor breakfast and as the days passed he grew weaker and weaker until he finally died of hunger.
Gracias a la Liebre, León
no logró engañar a nadie más. Ahora no tenía ni desayuno ni cena y con el paso de los días se volvió más y más débil, hasta que finalmente murió de hambre.

The Animal Kingdom then chose Hare to be Lion’s successor because of her cunning and curiosity.
Entonces el Reino Animal eligió a la Liebre como sucesora de León debido a su astucia y curiosidad.
