introduction

welcome words jeffrey thomson, issue 01 editor

Evident in everything from the cities we live in to the rings on our fingers, carbon has been a follower of man throughout time. An element with seemingly endless amounts of theoretical possibilities, carbon is an adaptable and bonded part of life that forms the basis of all organic things found in the universe. Considering this, Car6on Magazine came from the idea of a publication that could offer a socially conscious, contemporary and meaningful platform for creatives and readers to come together in a manifestation of art, design and fashion. With a diverse mix of international voices and talent, we hope this magazine can provide a true-to-life narrative for you to explore as we begin by looking at something vital to our ethos as a creative family: an alternate perspective.

an alternate perspective words francesca palmacci Will there be a time in the future where creativity and self-expression are more toxic in the eyes of those in power and those who do not think for themselves than violence, war, and other such atrocities? A society that favors production over appreciation and financial gain over basic respect is one that will ultimately collapse inwards onto itself. Opinions are, for the majority, curated in one’s mind by external resources, leaving individual thought trapped in a dark corner with no one to lend it a hand. The mind is powerful, and knowledge pertaining to what is truly truth is vital in order to

be able to take a step back and look at things differently. To try to see life from various perspectives is not peculiar nor is it wrong, but what ought to be done in a time when the power of the individual is needed to propel humanity forwards, opposed to backwards in a shameful regression. Human thought is a beautiful thing, but it can also become the greatest of all vices if rooted in only what is tangible. With the eyes and the mind, life can be dissected and analyzed under a new light that brings hope into the world. This is an alternate perspective.

produced chaos

Hedonism is the alternative to going crazy. Smoking may kill you in the long run but for some it may keep them from snapping. Temporary pleasures are the salve that is going to keep us sane on the precipice of chaos. Sometimes a little crazy keeps you from going insane.

is our online filter bubble affecting our perspective? words carmen hiemstra readily available, bombarding us with information in-sync with our own projections. However, this also separates us from information which may disagree with our online habits and identities, perhaps sheltering us and thus causing an ignorance to wider perspectives and alternative opinions. For many, Brexit and the shock of Donald Trump being elected president of the United States are clear examples of the ignorance apparent in today’s society. Simply put, we just don’t know what we don’t know.

The exponential growth of new content available on the internet has overwhelmed the search of information for today’s consumers. This over-saturation has lead to the development of algorithms from platforms including Instagram and Facebook providing a ‘personalised’ feed. Our search history, location, likes and dislikes have become an integral part of our online identity and filter bubble. Anticipating our every move, the internet attempts to predict what we want to see and makes this content

the smooth edges of the buildings extend their grasp towards the sky as if a way to communicate in ways that only few can see a longing to trace over the idiosyncrasies of life with a fine pen or to destroy it all and begin again that is the beauty - to begin again in a new era encapsulated in the present yet pushed into solitude by the curious mind the will to reach out to touch, to feel to see all for more than it is to see the gruesome the ugly springing up from the earth and rearing its ugly head in boundless beauty there are no words there are only words there is no conscious thought there is only conscious thought to see is granted not only by the eyes but by the mind to see is more than being it is a state a condition a life that we must reach somehow, somewhere
