Farmer Market

Location: Mt Gravatt, Brisbane

Project Name: Master Planning in Mt Gravatt

Nature : Studio Course

Date: 2023/Master Year 2

The design concept is to blend the boundary between nature and community.

The subject site is located within a residential area, right at the intersection of the Urban Green Link which connect the Mt Gravatt and the Brisbane Koala Bushcare. Within the site, the Mt Gravatt showground is divided into two major areas, 1) landscape area (Nature Link) and 2) Community Facilities (Urban Link). Therefore, this design attempts to connect the two links by integration of community facilities with the surrounding environment. The Nature Link will be the restoration adn conservation of nature and indigenous tree/plant species, including the replantation of eucalyptus trees for koalas or other native trees species, as the ecological repairement strategy. This will allow for the creation of a rope linkage for koalas to pass through safety from tree to tree. On the other hand, Urban Link will form the community heart for the Mt Gravatt community and stimulate the economic development through the farmer's market.

Aquatic Market

Location: Male, Maldives

Project Name: Research Design Thesis

Nature : Studio Course

Date: 2022/Master Year 1

The research will investigate how adaptive reuse and architecture intervention can subtly yet significantly integrate into the Maldivian tradition and reinforce community cohesion.

Maldives archipelago consists 99% of water and 1 % of land which makes fishing as the prominent food sources and fisheries becomes the second largest industry. According to the Maldivian former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, “Fishing is the lifeblood of our nation.” (Ali, 2022) During 2017, the Maldives consumed nearly 87% of fish, 75% were imported and 25% was produced locally(MoFMA,2019). Even more, 10% of 25% local production is exported. The fish markets are the major landmark and become part of the life for the Maldivian. In addition to being vital to the Maldives’ economy, fishing is a well-liked pastime that is enjoyed by both natives and visitors alike. Thus, the environment of the fish market and local market is crowded due to the rise of population (Energy Consultancy Pvt. Ltd ,2006). On the other hand, the local markets have a long history and attract several visitors. However, according to the prediction from IPCC, 80% of land in the Maldives will be underwater as the sea-level will rise over 1m by 2100 (MEEW, 2016). The local markets and fishery industries will be threatened, due to the consequence by sea-level rise, such as flooding, loss of marine lives and reducing the catch of fishmen (Kibria, 2016). Therefore, to conserve the national tradition in the Maldives and reinforce community engagement, the objective was to respond to the research question: how design strategies can be implemented for sea-level rise adaption and integrate into local Maldivian culture and ecosystem and enhance the community engagement?

Oceanism

Location : Ma Wan, Hong Kong

Project Name: Master Planning in Ma Wan

Nature : Studio Course

Date: 2018/Year 4/Semester B

Teenagers and Kids use their sense perception to explore and learn new knowledge. Ocean is mysterious which is underground and difficult to understand the ocean life. They also the future generation who need to take up the responsibility to protect the nature.

By creating an aquarium park, people can discover and experience the life of ocean, such as the different life in different levels, by using their senses perception. Therefore, the ocean can be touchable and easy to experience when they are up leveling to the ground. Thus, it promotes the protection of the ocean and nature.

Muslim Coliving

Location: Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Project Name: Coliving

Nature : Studio Course

Date: 2017/Year 4/Semester A

The design concept of co-living building is lighting and integration. According muslim‘s cultural features and architectural features, the design should focus on the prayer room where they need to pray for five time per day. The gender segregation is significant which lead to the separation. In order to persist the cultural value and increase the integration among them. For the Single type, the building is divided into two parts, male and female are separated in the Z routine because it form the own gender circulation and enhance the interaction among them.

In order to enhance the interaction among them, four rooms are shared one common space which reference from the design of Iwan and Sehan. After creating the Iwan and Sehan structure, the structure has repeated because of the infinite. For the façade design, it is used two major types of window pattern, flower and geometry. The patterns divide the building into two parts, the single type and the family type. The patterns is continuously with the concept of infinite which has been repeated.

Interlocking

Location: Sha Tin, Hong Kong

Nature : Installation - Group Project

Interlocking means the circulation pattern in Chinese architecture which include the circulation of bridge and countyard house. People need to twisted and turn with angle in order to direct people to look for a different angle of the views. So as to create the twist and turn circulation concept, the installation is designed by interlocking the screen which is the partition wall in Chinese architecture. There is a unique pattern on the screen. In order to illustrate that concept, it designs to mesh like pattern with the attachment of wadan and roof tiles. It acts as the screen and creates the circulation for the visitors. Finally, the screen located in the center does not include any ornamentation on the screen and People are welcomed to cross over and go to the next part of the installation instead of blocking the circulation. It also acts as the threshold which people need to cross over in order to enter the house or shrine

Alley 城巷

Location: Hong Kong

Nature : Modular Competition

Responding to the diverse sites located across the metropolitan city with some further away from the city centre, ‘The Alley’ adopts a modular concept, with two modules of different dimensions and functions arranged in a suitable layout to satisfy the various conditions and limitations of each site. The landscape design of the stone trail and garden complimenting the modules also provides a peaceful and quiet transitional resting space within the bustling city.

To enhance the interior ventilation of the public toilet, the ceiling roof of the module is lifted and a screen wall is adopted, providing an odorless and fresh refreshment experience for users. The screen wall as well as the skylights on the ceiling roof allow natural sunlight entering the public toilet, reducing the need for artificial lights and creating a bright and warm ambience inside the toilet. The lights from the interior also emit to the exterior through the screen wall, shining as a guiding light for people at night.

Professional Practice -

Playground with Pump Station I Design Practices

The design should include a playground, basketball court, and a pump station. Due to the accommodation of the pump station, children's playground should be provided at cross-level.

I responded to design under supervision. The most challenging part of the design is to maintain the height of the pump station and consider the waterproofing problem when the pump station located underground which ensures the operation of the pump station. Also, it needs to consider the height of the play equipment due to safety.
