Unlike in the past, most societies do not consume all parts of an animal anymore.

The majority – chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, goats, and many more – are slaughtered only for their meat. The remaining parts – accounting for 25 to 35 % depending on the species –are by-products such as feathers, blood, bones and intestines. This organic material must be handled carefully to prevent disposal issues or even potential risks to public health.

Professional companies – renderers – collect and process by-products in modern plants and in accordance with international legislations. To accomplish that, they use an advanced cooking technique that applies pressure and heat to eliminate all pathogens from the organic materials, and to separate the solid from the liquid parts.

The result of this rendering process are protein meals, fats and oils.
