Hamilton Heights, NYC, NY

“THE COLLECTIVE” The Collective was a project focused of designing for the varying needs of groups in and around Hamilton Heights, New York. There was proximity to two different universities and a vast range of demographics that needed to be taken into account.

We planned for multi-generational housing where 30% of inhabitants were college students and 70% were families for 4 to 6 members.

We programmed a daycare to be utilized by families who needed to work past school hours.

Subsidized rent would be offered with promise to utilize an after school program. Additionally, rent would be limited to and subsidized for college students who were willing to become mentors and work for the building’s after care services.

Pigneto, Rome, Italy

“PIGNETO SOCIAL HUB” On the periphery of Rome, lies Pigneto, a culturally and historically rich neighborhood filled with street art, young professionals, and a single monument in ruin named the Torrione.

Desiring to maintain the existing green space, and connect two dissected parts of the neighborhood, we allowed the building to be the mediator between the two. Aligning with the natural context to the North and hovering over the existing green space, the building emulates a stage for the ruin and allows all elements to be emphasized.

Its program houses students for the surrounding art schools and also creates a social node to bring the community back to its history. Outfitted with residences, public and private services, it would be a primary hangout for all citizens.

This museum project starts with the self-portrait art of William Uttermohlen. He was diagnosed with alzheimers, and his art dwindled with objectivity but grew with subjectivity which became a dualistic starting point for the basis of the form.

This project focuses many things from duality, subjectivity/objectivity, paradoxes, awareness of consciousness and much more. At its heart, the building is designed in a way to keep people coming back to the center, undder the oculus.

The oculus is a metaphor for a moment of clarity in a rather busy, confusing, choatic existence.

The entire project was fueled by thought and the extent we could take our minds to the edges of understanding reality itself. We concluded that life is not about black or white, but the connections / conversations that happen within the grey.

04 ARCH 403 “EXTERNAL EXODUS” Andreas Angelidakis’ Hand House is used as a precedent to represent the vanity of celebrity culture and the conscious consequence of forced alienation and seperateness that leaves millions hypnotized in a cyclical, sedentary, life.

This project is based in a world without work, and laziness is the new capitalism. This post-work era, the citizens will be drawn to exploration of purpose and internal presence and escape the endless commodification imbued by capitalism’s highest on the top of the pyramid.

External Exodus would be a place where people’s autonomy would be emboldened, and through the alluring drift actions and contemplations would become equal in significance. Architecture striving to express the newfound noble intentions of the individual, it would create a new pastoral palimpsest inspired by thoughtful transcendence.
