Jana and Jorden enjoy a Grand time in Lake Geneva During Memorial Day weekend, Jana and Jorden Brok — along with their two children, Coco and Josh — drove a short distance from their Highland Park home. But they might as well have traveled to another country. “Going to Lake Geneva is an accessible vacation, yet you feel like you’re really getting away,” says Jana. Staying in one of the renovated suites at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, the Brok family enjoyed both the slides at the water park and splashing about the swimming pool in “perfect weather” — plenty of sunshine but no humidity. They also played miniature golf, and the kids set off on horseback rides. For 8-year-old Coco, “it was the coolest thing she’s ever done,” Jana says. They walked around the town of Lake Geneva and found food to their liking. Dinner at Popeye’s — a popular spot launched in 1971 and featuring burgers and sandwiches — was a treat. They also ordered ice cream and more at Kilwins. “It’s our No. 1 favorite place,” Jana says. “It’s literally the best ice cream in the world. It’s worth waiting in line.” David Sweet ■ Jana and Jorden Brok of Highland Park are looking forward to the Be Part of the Cure event — of which Jane is a co-chair — on July 18 at the Culinary Innovation Center at Highland Baking Company in Northbrook. photography by joel lerner
