Students Eye Next Big Trend In LFHS Incubator BY EMILY SPECTRE DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

A group gathers in a corner conference room to discuss the challenges of how to bring its business idea MeltWell, a throat lozenge in the form of a thin strip that dissolves on the tongue, to market. This small group is facing issues common to entrepreneurs looking to create the next big trend, such as developing a prototype and raising capital. But in one way this group is different than most found in business incubators like Chicago’s 1871 — each member is a junior at Lake Forest High School. The students are enrolled in the school’s business incubator class, which was first piloted four years ago through a partnership between the school and Lake Forest High School Foundation. The yearlong class aims to teach students entrepreneurial skills through the development of a business that is pitched, Shark Tank-style, at a pitch night at yearend. “This class is the most like the real world, where they are getting skills they will use in their business career,” Michelle Gramza, business incubator co-chair for Lake Forest High School Foundation, told DailyNorthShore. MODERN ENGLISH North Shore Anglophiles Fete Royal Wedding BY LIBBY ELLIOTT DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

There was hope for those not fortunate enough to snag an invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding last weekend at Windsor Castle. Enthusiastic North Shore residents found creative, fun-loving ways to celebrate the big day with viewing parties in their homes, local pubs, country clubs and downtown hotels. And watch they did, from sea to shining sea: When the royal wedding kicked off at 12 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time – 7 a.m. Central Time, 29.2 million people in the U.S. tuned in, according to Nielsen – which, Vanity Fair pointed out, is about 6 million more than Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011. British expat Luke Mutter, who moved to Lake Forest in 2011 with his wife and three children, woke up early Saturday morning, May 19, to watch the royal wedding alongside his ginger-haired dog, aptly named “Harry.” “If I can get up to watch live rugby, I think I can get up for this,” said Mutter prior to the Big Day. Mutter, a realtor with Koenig Rubloff, has been celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement at his open houses, where he brings cardboard cutouts of the royal couple to greet prospective homebuyers, who often pose for selfies.
