It is said, "A cord of three strands is not easily broken," which is often interpreted as, "While two people are more productive than one, better yet, three people are stronger than two." We as humans are not designed to go through life alone. You and I need each other. We all need community.

In recent years, isolation has become a common theme we have observed among our youth. Ironically, in a world that seems so highly connected via the Internet and social media, the reality is today's youth feel alone. They feel a personal disconnect from their family, peers, teachers and other adult influences.

At Just Say YES, our philosophy is "a connected student is a protected student."

This is why for more than 16 years, we have made it our mission to create lifechanging connections with students of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances in order to help them achieve better and brighter futures. We do this via three-types of programming, (or in this case "strands"): high-impact student assemblies; Peer-to-Peer Mentoring; and adult influence education (staff development and parent programs).

Whether it is a classroom of 30 students or a gymnasium of 1,000, the Just Say YES assembly speakers have an incredible gift of meeting student's right where they are in life. The speakers share their unique personal testimonies of overcoming adversity and achieving success, which leads students to think, "Their story is similar to mine. If they can overcome that, maybe I can, too."

In the Just Say YES STARS Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program, upperclassmen are trained to mentor incoming freshmen, all whom are selected by campus administrators. This unique peer-topeer model creates a safe place for students to share their own stories, while also holding one other accountable in making positive life choices. Students quickly learn that they are not alone in their circumstances; that their peers are going through similar hardships both in the classroom and beyond. Connections and bonds begin to form, and each year without fail, students say, "This is not just a program, we have become a family."

As I reflect on the power of these programs, it has been incredible to witness student transformations from a life of emptiness and loneliness, to one of connection, character and potential.

Just Say YES programs are working in the lives of students, and we simply could not do it without YOU. The relational connection begins with trust, and we are thankful for the trust you have placed in us to equip today's youth to succeed. You, the Just Say YES staff, and the students we serve are also a chord of three strands that cannot be easily broken. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

The JSY Campus Impact Plan (CIP) is an overall comprehensive strategy that addresses many areas of need for a school, while also focusing on the key building blocks of healthy development that equip students to succeed both in the classroom and beyond. The purpose of the CIP is to improve campus climate by offering high-impact programs to students, educators and parents for one school year; ultimately providing students the support they need to pursue a better and brighter future.

This year, 35 JSY student mentors from six Dallas-Fort Worth area high schools attended the MentorLife Retreat at Sky Ranch!

Students participated in fun team-building activities facilitated by JSY Speaker Tory Gant, and learned essential leadership skills in order to become stronger mentors. They also had the opportunity to participate in fun experiences, such as: Zipline/ Campfire & S'mores /Basketball / Dance-Offs and more!

On the evening of the P2P Graduation ceremony parents, loved ones, campus leadership and friends of JSY cheered on each student mentor and mentee as they walked across the stage to receive their Certificate of Completion for the 2017-2018 Peer-toPeer Mentoring program. The audience also applauded the inspirational messages given

by JSY Founder and President Dan Bailey and JSY Speaker Gabe Salazar!

As the largest student group outside the state of Colorado, 28 JSY student mentors and three JSY Mentor Coordinators attended the conference. Students experienced life on a college campus, learned essential life skills and how to become strong leaders both in school and beyond. JSY Speaker Gabe Salazar was a featured keynote speaker! *Thank you to Southwest Airlines for sponsoring 10 round-trip tickets!

FUNDRAISING

8TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION

Held at The Pavilion at Belo Mansion in beautiful downtown Dallas, the evening event was dedicated to the theme of, "Tell Your Story," reflecting how JSY teaches students the power of sharing one's personal journey through assembly speakers and the Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program.

More than 300 guests were buzzing about this year's program lineup and events, including: Keynote Speaker Jenna Bush Hager NBC News TODAY show contributing correspondent and The New York Times best-selling author; The Coach Avery Johnson Youth Impact Award: Tavia and Clark Hunt; Panel Discussion: JSY Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Impact featuring JSY student mentor and mentee testimonials.

It may have been a rainy Columbus Day, but that didn't stop the 53rd Westapher Golf Charity Tournament from being a great success! Hosted by the Preston Center Rotary Club, the tournament took place at the award winning Cowboys Golf Club. JSY was humbled and honored to be selected as this year's primary beneficiary, where nearly 100 golfers participated in support of equipping today's youth to succeed!

What made this year's tournament most memorable was the NEW Patron Party event held exclusively for tournament and team sponsors. On the evening of September 6, 2018, supporters viewed the Sam Pack's Five Star Ford Automotive Museum, which includes performance, hot rods, custom, antiques and one offs; many with valid race and movie build histories.

GOLF TOURNAMENT

A SPECIAL THANKS TO: The Preston Center Rotary Club for selecting JSY as the primary beneficiary, and for all attendees who joined us for a great day of golfing for cause!

We are extremely grateful to all contributors - both new donors and longtime friends - who supported Just Say YES this Giving Day! From 6am-midnight, 100 donors raised $50,007, which not only met, but exceeded our generous $50K Matching Gift, bringing the grand total to $100,007 raised for our youth!

Communities Foundation of Texas had a recordbreaking year for its 10th Anniversary, fundraising over $48 million for 2,690 nonprofits in North Texas.

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

NEW this year was the Scheduled Giving Kickoff Event held at the Richardson, TX hotspot, Communion Neighborhood Cooperative. JSY hosted the event on September 11, 2018 in collaboration with five other nonprofits. Guests had the opportunity to connect with fellow North Texas community members, learn more about the nonprofits serving the great city of Richardson, and schedule their Giving Day gift ahead of time!

For the second year in-a-row, the Kendra Scott boutique located at The Plaza at Preston Center hosted a Gives Back Party benefiting Just Say YES. On October 25, 2018, family, friends and JSY superfans stopped by to shop and mingle with fellow supporters.

Guests also had the opportunity to shop the NEWLY launched Kendra Scott winter collection, filled with lovely jewel-toned pieces. Timing was perfect for guests to get a head start on their holiday shopping, and some even created custom-pieces at the Kendra Color Bar. Kendra Scott has created a brand and culture that authentically values giving back and making a positive difference in the community. For the Just Say YES Gives Back Party, 20 percent of ALL proceeds benefited the JSY mission of empowering today's youth!
