JUSTINE LOCKMAN

A B O U T

A Charlotte, NC native, and proud representative of Liberty University’s Interior Design program. I have always been an admirer of the field of design from all aspects that it impacts the daily lives of people. As a designer I feel a strong responsibility to understand how small and large scale creative decisions can contribute to the success of a space. Within this portfolio is a collection of some of the highlighted pieces of work I have created in my three semesters within the program.

Creationeer Cafe

COMPLETED FOR THE LIBERTY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

The Creationeer Cafe is a prototype space which aims to bring students from varying educational backgrounds together, to collaborate and develop ideas for the future. The cafe prototype renderings provide a peak into the space, using the existing lab located in the school of engineering. The proposal for this project is under review for implementation at the start of the spring semester of 2023. The renderings were completed using SketchUp and a separate set are seen completed in alcohol marker. This project was completed by a small group of interior design students.

ADJACENCY PLAN

The adjacency plan displays the space association and details including the occupancy loads per room, necessary number of paths of egress, and the added walls for the initial split of the original lecture hall.

FLOOR PLAN

The final floor plan provides the necessary spatial layout including all furniture that is necessary to the new studio space. The final plan met all the deliverable requirements for the client and provided design solutions for the students.

Saffer Home

Rich textures and colors evoke a sense of comfort as one settles into the sunlit space. A crackling fire with windows peaking open to let the crisp air flow through, while daydreams of distant places are encouraged by the artfully curated surroundings. The deep exhale of man’s best friend, and the whisper of children’s laughter from another room float through the home to fill the space with joy and love.

Free Hand Building Elevation

Completed in FACS 241, seen below, this free hand drawing is showing a multi-level residence elevation. Using an HB pencil to draft the construction lines, the final product shown below has been drawn in pen to emphasize the finer details.

The finer details prove the difficulty in completing a freehand that incorporates the necessary level of detail for a traditional elevation drawing.

Learning to yield line weights, hatching and shading gives extra dimensionality to the drawing.

The hand drawing techniques are invaluable lessons when it comes to design. Physical manipulation of line weights has given me to ability to understand how to differentiate in simple line drawings.

Throughout the completion of this project, I was primarily focused on displaying as much information as possible. Understanding why and how designers use varying techniques is where the level of skill can be further showcased.

Portrait Rendering

Completed as the final assigment in the ARTS 211 drawing class. The contents for this assignment focused on the Statue of David. This particular style of renderings, based on statues, is referred to as cast drawings. To complete this I used a range of graphite from 4H to 4B, to layer the greyscale and create areas of deep contrast within his physique, facial features and hair. The final drawing took a total of roughly 85 hours and was a labor intensive process.

Still Life Rendering

As a prerequisite for the Portrait Rendering in the ARTS 211 Drawing I class, the still life rendering assignment was introduced as a means for honing the skills for rendering in graphite. The bowl of pomegrantes offer a challenge in the mastery of portraying reflectivity and contrast using varying types of graphite and applying differing strokes or soft rendering techniques. The majority of this composition was completed using the burnishing technique which moves graphite in tiny circles to create a seamless transition from one level of the greyscale to another.
