DESIGN PROCESS

Bali is confronted with the challenge of evenly distributing tourist attractions between its southern and northern regions. The southern part of the island has emerged as a focal point for tourist activities, in contrast to the northern region, which attracts fewer visitors. This imbalance primarily stems from tourists' association of Bali with its beaches. The introduction of the Bedugul Tourism Hotel Resort is intended to bolster the tourism industry in Northern Bali by promoting the splendor of Lake Beratan to a wider audience, thereby expected to enhance the tourism sector in Northern Bali

LATAR BELAKANG & PERMASALAHAN

Portable Kiosk

Team Project

BATIK ARS (Bamboo Kinetic Architecture)

2022 / 2023

Function : Kiosk

"Shankara" in Sanskrit means "bringer of good fortune," which implies that the function of this kiosk can bring good luck to both the local residents and the visiting visitors. When the kiosk is open and commercial activities take place, it adapts the shape of the West Java Traditional Houses Roof in Indonesia, namely 'Julang Ngapak'. The basic form of this kiosk utilizes a triangular geometric shape that is both stable and aesthetic, with bamboo as the material that aligns with the local characteristics and identity of the Selaawi community in Garut.

Background

This portable bamboo kiosk is a structure made of bamboo and utilizes a kinetic system. The kinetic system in this kiosk is necessary for security protection and entry access. The opening can be automatically activated using a spring and a hydraulic system located on both sides of the pathway When the kiosk is closed, the opening can be manually shut by pulling it with hand and securing it to the floor beams

Bamboo is a natural material known for its strength, lightweight nature, and durability. These qualities make it suitable for outdoor events such as markets, exhibitions, festivals, or other similar occasions. Additionally, this kiosk can used temporarily in areas without permanent buildings or for businesses that require mobility. Portable bamboo kiosks offer a practical and aesthetically pleasing solution for various business or event needs that call for an easily movable temporary structure The use of bamboo as the primary material provides the kiosk with a natural and environmentally friendly ambiance

Function

Bamboo

This kiosk features a structure entirely made of bamboo, integrated to form a triangular shape using four columns as the primary supports As a portable or disassemblable kiosk it utilizes simple joinery or connections that are easy to install and does not require a structure connected to the ground The weight of the kiosk is supported by the columns, consisting of four bamboo slats and a bamboo sill at the base, allowing the structure to bear the resulting load
