Hemina are a 4 piece Progressive Metal band from Sydney, Australia. The band’s sound has been described as a unique combination of hard hitting syncopated grooves, lush synth backwashes, multi-part vocal harmonies, blistering memorable leads with a focus on songwriting and emotion. The band have supported international bands Uriah Heep, Kamelot, Apocalyptica, Queensryche and are opening for Haken on the Sydney leg of their Vector world tour. They have shared the stage with Aussie legends Caligula’s Horse, Chaos Divine, Voyager, Twelve Foot Ninja, Divine Ascension, Breaking Orbit among many others and simply live for the stage.

Hemina’s first three albums ‘Synthetic’, ‘Nebulae’ and ‘Venus‘ were met with critical acclaim traversing many different sides of the band’s sonic spectrum from the complex and dark, to the immediate and uplifting. The release of ‘Venus‘ saw Hemina taking their music overseas culminating in performances at Progpower Europe (Netherlands) and Euroblast (Germany). TEA CLUB If/When Die Gruppe besitzt offenbar das seltene Talent ihre komplexen, wohldurchdachten Arrangements sowohl im ruhigeren, als auch im härteren, mal hymnisch, mal stürmisch rockenden Kontext organisch fließen zu lassen.

Wer sich vorstellen kann wie eine subtil aktualisierte, leicht amerikanisierte Mixtur aus Big Big Train und Jadis, vermengt mit einem leicht jazzigen Touch à la Gentle Giant klingen würde, ist bereits auf einem guten Weg, sich dem Stil von The Tea Club zu nähern.

VÖ: 23.08.2019 Die Art- und Prog-Rocker The Tea Club stammen aus New Jersey und gruppieren sich seit 2003 um die sich sowohl die Gitarrenarbeit, als auch das Mikrofon teilenden Brüder Dan und Patrick McGowan.

Ihre über 53 Minuten umfassende, neu Song-Sammlung beginnt mit dem verträumten und einen angenehmen, weil nicht zu aufdringlichen Hippie-Vibe versprühenden „The Way You Call“, das von stimmungsvollen Akustikgitarren und sanftem, fast schon andächtigem Gesang dominiert wird.

Kaum sind die letzten leisen Schwingungen der Nylonsaiten verklungen, folgt ein mächtiges, hartes und vor allem dreckig krachendes E-Gitarren-Riff. Die eben noch so entspannte Atmosphäre ändert sich schlagartig und laut dröhnend in eine deutlich intensivere, düstere Stimmung – ein sehr gelungener Wechsel, hin zu knackigem Prog-Sound. The Tea Club vollziehen diesen recht extremen Übergang allerdings ganz homogen.

Dazu kommen zwischendurch immer mal wieder noch klar heraushörbare Schlenker in Richtung Psychedelia, Post-Rock und guten alten 80er-Pops sowie sinfonische und elektronische Anwandlungen. Das Alles fühlt sich aber niemals aufgesetzt oder hineingezwängt an, sondern fügt sich nahtlos und authentisch ein.

Gute Beispiele hierfür sind das vielschichtige, trotzdem erstaunlich eingängige „If I Mean When“ und das explosive „Rivermen“; ein Stück, dass so mitreißend, so energiegeladen daherkommt, dass es den Hörer fast atemlos zurücklässt.

Und da haben wir noch nicht einmal über die, das Werk würdig abschließende, über ihre knapp 28 Minuten Spielzeit gekonnt zwischen herrlich epischem Breitwand-Prog, experimentellen Parts, knackigem Hardrock und superharmonischen Sequenzen changierende Mammutnummer „Creature“ gesprochen...

Inspired by his return to Galahad in 2017 and his subsequent contributions to the band’s single-song concept album Seas of Change, Abraham has written and produced his own single-song concept album. Clocking in at around 47mins Comatose tells the story of a car crash victim who experiences flash backs while medical staff try to save his life. A deep and complex work that takes in a number of musical styles but all the while retaining the overall progressive rock sound. “I wanted to try something different again for the next album rather than just repeat previous work,“ Abraham tells Prog. „I hope I have done that successfully and listeners enjoy the ride... All 47 minutes of it!”. Abraham is joined once again by long-time musical partner Gerald Mulligan (Credo) on drums, Rob Arnold on piano, lead vocal excellence from Riversea‘s Marc Atkinson and backing vocals from Diane Abraham and Galahad colleague Mark Spencer. Artwork is once again co-ordinated by Robin Armstrong. Abraham handles all guitars, all keyboards and for the first time since 2009’s Black And White, and all the bass.

Live at Under the Bridge is a new live album by Curved Air and features the band playing the legendary Air Conditioning in its entirety. The current band was joined onstage for this one-off concert by special guests Darryl Way and Ian Eyre. This release has been mixed by the band’s keyboard player Robert Norton and is to be given a full marketing campaign and will also be promoted on the band’s tour dates leading into their 50th Anniversary World Tour in 2020.

The Curved Air Family Album collects together rare band tracks, previously unreleased collaborations and solo tracks. The album gives fans an opportunity to hear works by past members of the band they may have lost touch with and to enjoy both Curved Air tracks and solo member tracks which give an insight into the talents each member brings to the band. In total the album features nine unreleased tracks and is a ‘catch all’ release for rare non-album tracks that fans may not have heard before.

LP 28636 DENNIS - Hyperthalamus LP........................................ 24,99 23.08.2019 This is the first official reissue on vinyl of ultra rare legendary album „Hyperthalamus“ of Hamburg group Dennis. Dennis were a kind of session group including a collection of musicians from Frumpy, Tomorrow‘s Gift, Thirsty Moon and Xhol playing free-rock. Leading member was Frumpy drummer Carsten Bohn (the band was named after his son). But keyboarder Manne Rürup (of Tomorrow‘s Gift fame), Michael Kobs and Willi Pape (of Thirsty Moon fame) were musicians with equal rights and certainly great musical abilities. „Hyperthalamus“ comes across as a collection of extracts from acid-jams and freak-outs with a hybrid of progressive, psychedelic and cosmic styles, notably elements of late Tomorrow‘s Gift, Thirsty Moon, and even hints of Embryo and Guru Guru: a musical melting pot of surprising diversions and fusion sounds.

The original album pressing is ultra rare. From the Warner Music archives comes this reissue. This first edition comes as limited edition with the story of the band.

Featuring three lead-guitarists, Euclid cut this killer psychedelic hardrock album back in 1970. Die Ästhetik ist passenderweise dem viktorianischen England entlehnt, um darauf zu verweisen, dass wir im Grunde nicht aus unseren Fehlern lernen. Mit den enthaltenen Tracks erzählt das Duo zehn voneinander unabhängige Geschichten unter vertrauten stilistischen Vorzeichen, denn angesichts seines seit je einzigartigen Sounds wäre es Duo töricht, einschneidende Änderungen vorzunehmen oder sich sogar diesem oder jenem Zeitgeist

Das heißt allerdings nicht, dass die Russen nur mehr vom selben Alten bieten würden. „The Bell“ ist ein durchaus mutiges Album, wenn man das zugrundeliegende Konzept bedenkt, und erzeugt bereits rein musikalisch genug Spannung, um IAMTHEMORNINGs anhaltende Relevanz im weiteren ArtrockKontext zu untermauern. Für die junge Dame, die als Aushängeschild des Projekts fungiert, ist ‚Freak Show‘ mit Harfe und Streichern ein ungewohnt dringlicher Einstieg, woraus sich ausgewachsener Bombast Rock mit wuchtigem Schlagzeug entwickelt, ohne dass sich Gleb Kolyadin am Klavier die Führung nehmen ließe.

Der ausgebildete Komponist führt in seinen neuen Songs konsequent fort, was er im vergangenen Jahr auf seinem Solo-Debüt demonstrierte - einen Crossover aus Klassik, Jazz und Rock mit den Atem raubender Dynamik, vor allem in Sachen Lautstärke. Auch wenn „The Bell“ in seinem Zentrum zu ruhen scheint (die gedämpften Tracks ‚Sleeping Beauty‘ und ‚Black And Blue‘ tendieren ebenso wie die intime, schon von „Ocean Sounds“ als Demo-Version bekannte Ballade ‚Blue Sea‘ vage gen Kammermusik), ist es das bis dato intensivste IAMTHEMORNINGWerk. Dicke Ausrufezeichen hinter dieses Statement setzen speziell ‚Salute‘, das längste Stücke kurz vor Schluss, und der malerische Kunst-Pop ‚Ghost Of A Story‘. Das naiv versponnene ‚Six Feet‘ hat hingegen in der Tat etwas Narratives in Hinblick auf das übergreifende Konzept, weist aber auch Eigenschaften eines Schlaflieds aus, obzwar IAMTHEMORNING freilich weder hier noch andernorts einlullen. Selbst der minimalistisch gestrickte ‚Song Of Psyche‘, der auf sachte gezupfter Akustikgitarre beruht, wühlt auf und bestätigt Marjana endgültig als stimmstarke Sympathieträgerin, wohingegen Gleb als nahezu beispielloser Visionär auf seinem Feld stehenbleibt.

FAZIT: „The Bell“ erschlägt zwar zunächst auch trotz der relativ stillen Mehrheit der enthaltenen Stücke, stellt sich aber schlussendlich als denkbar gelungenste Vereinbarung höchster Ansprüche mit für die Masse verträglichen Melodien heraus, die man sich als Musiker wie Hörer wünschen kann. Zählt die Tage bis zu IAMTHEMORNINGs Konzerten im Herbst 2019 …

Wenn es eine Band gibt, die im Laufe ihrer Karriere schon mehrfach bewiesen hat, wie wenig sie auf Konventionen gibt, dann sind das die schwedischen Prog-Metaller von OPETH. So überrascht es im Grunde genommen nur sehr wenig, dass sie auch auf ihrem im Herbst erscheinenden, dreizehnten Album nicht dazu bereit sind, irgendwelche Kompromisse einzugehen. Stilistisch bleiben sie zugegebenermaßen auf dem selben Terrain, das sie schon mit ihren drei letzten Alben so erfolgreich beackert haben, aber dass sie die neuen Stücke komplett mit schwedischen Texten versehen würden, war auch nicht unbedingt zu erwarten. Zwar werden die Songs auch in einer internationalen Version mit englischem Gesang erhältlich sein, dennoch wird die Band nicht müde zu betonen, welches die „richtige“, die einzig wahre Version ist. Das Erstaunliche daran ist aber vor allen Dingen, wie gut die schwedische Sprache hierbei funktioniert. Für Fans von Arena & frühen Threshold! // Midnight Sun besteht aus erfahrenen ProgMusikern, die unter anderem schon bei Also Eden, Unto Us und Grey Lady Down gespielt haben. Während die oben genannten Bands normalerweise dem traditionellen Neoprog zugerechnet werden, möchte man sich bei Midnight Sun verstärkt härteren Klängen, bzw. dem progressiven Metal widmen. Man kommt nicht umhin, in den Arrangements von Midnight Sun ein durchdachtes Gleichgewicht zwischen den symphonischen, mitunter auch elektronisch orientierten Keyboards und den harten Gitarrenriffs festzustellen.

Mir kommen dabei die Namen wie Vanden Plas und Threshold in den Sinn. Das Besondere an Midnight Sun sind aber die immer wieder durchschimmernden Elemente des Neoprog. Als wollten, oder könnten die Musiker ihre Vergangenheit nicht verleugnen, oder ganz hinter sich lassen. Da wäre vor allem der melodische, manchmal leicht theatralisch angehauchte Gesang von Huw-Lloyd-Jones, der das Gebotene in Neoprog-Gefilde zu überführen scheint. Sobald auf dem Album die Heavy Metal-Riffs den balladesken, oder den prog-symphonischen Momenten weichen, rückt auch der Neoprog in die greifbare Nähe. In solchen Momenten glaube ich fast den Kollegen von Pallas zu lauschen. „Delirium“ und „Control“ halte ich gar für eine gelungene Verschmelzung der Elemente von Progmetal und Neoprog. Der Keyboarder fällt mir immer wieder sehr angenehm durch seine Synthesizer-Solos auf, als hörte er manchmal den Altmeister Wakeman. Mindestens einer der Gitarristen beherrscht auch virtuos-angeberische Metal-Solos, von denen es hier glücklicherweise nicht allzu viele gibt. Textlich und mittels Artwork gibt man sich gerne düster. Der Albumtitel „Dark Tide Rising“ wäre beispielsweise einer Black Metal-Kapelle würdig. Die Musik Midnight Sun bleibt dagegen im traditionellen Sinne melodisch. Viele der Songtexte widmen sich allerding den durchaus düsteren Themen, wie dem Verlust in seinen zahlreichen Formen. Wohl um die einseitige Betrachtungsweise zu vermeiden, werden in „Scheherezade“ auch mal die Liebe und das Leben und in „Broken Angels“ die Heilung und die Wiedergutmachung thematisiert. Falls Bedarf an progressivem Metal, der auf Neoprog trifft, oder an progressivem Metal mit leidenschaftlichem Neoprog-Gesang bestehen sollte; das Debütwerk von Midnight Sun wäre dann wahrscheinlich die erste Wahl. There is redemption and healing in ‘Broken Angels’ and a celebration of love and the dance of life in ‘Scheherazade’ to bring balance. This live document was recorded at The Keswick Theatre, Glenside, PA, USA on 23rd September 2011 The band’s live set saw Renaissance perform two of their classic albums live in their entirety, namely Turn Of The Cards and Scheherazade & Other Stories. Ansonsten nur was für Fans von 80er Synthypop. • Never before officially released on CD - this is Pink Floyd‘s Rick Wright‘s other band. • Relationships within Pink Floyd had been getting ever more strained as the 1970s dragged on, and by the time that the band convened to record the Roger Waters masterwork, The Wall, keyboard player Rick Wright had reached a head. For tax reasons, the band were recording in France, New York and Los Angeles, and for various reasons that are outside the remit of this article, soon became badly behind schedule. Rick Wright had recorded a solo album in France almost immediately before sessions for The Wall convened, and was also going through a bitter divorce, and so – unlike other members of the band – was not able to bring his children abroad with him. • As a result of all this, he was unable to see his children for quite a while, and the accumulative effect of this, his unhappiness within the band, his struggles with Waters, his artistic frustrations at playing music in which he had not had a hand in creating, and various other things, was that he fell into a deep depression. Wright’s contributions to The Wall were later described as “minimal” and, according to drummer Nick Mason, Waters was “stunned and furious” with Wright’s intransigence and felt that Wright was not doing enough to help complete the album, started to lobby for his dismissal, and eventually presented the rest of the band with an impasse; either Wright leaves or he would block the release of the album. Several days later, according to Wikipedia, “worried about their financial situation, and the failing interpersonal relationships within the band, Wright quit”. • Newly divorced from his previous life and previous musical activities, Rick Wright was at somewhat of a loose end and was vaguely thinking about putting a new band together, when Raphael Ravenscroft, who is best known for the saxophone break on Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” (and is the son of the bloke who wrote The Spear of Destiny (1972)) introduced him to a ‘New Romantic’ musician called Dave ‘Dee’ Harris. The two of them hit it off, and – after various misadventures – decided to team up as a duo, which they called Zee. The two unlikely bedfellows produced a strange synergy, and the resulting album, Identity, worked much better than anyone could have guessed, and as a fan of both the harder edge of New Romantic music and Pink Floyd, I lapped it up. However, it had remained horribly obscure, and is probably the least known record of anything that has come out from the Pink Floyd ‘family’. • And, for reasons which remain mysterious and don’t really matter anyway, the record was soon deleted and never received an official release on CD. Im Mittelpunkt des Albums stehen allerdings die instrumentalen Passagen, während der Gesang und die vielen Sprach-Samples das Konzept rund um unsere eigene traurige Glaubenswelt textlich mit sprachlicher Bildkraft verwirklicht: „Life is a path you take / Fate is a choice you make / Give gravity the lie / Resist the main attraction.“ (Das Leben ist

FAZIT: Fast 15 Jahre ließen die texanischen Symphonic-Prog-Rocker THIRTEEN OF EVERYTHING den Hörer auf die Fortsetzung ihres gelungenen Prog-Albums „Welcome, Humans“ warten. Die Wartezeit hat sich gelohnt. „Our Own Sad Fate“ definiert symphonischen Kunstrock auf seine ganz spezielle amerikanische Weise und setzt damit deutliche Zeichen im Umfeld solcher Bands wie IZZ und SPOCK‘S BEARD. So bedient es sich an der goldenen Phase des Thrash Metal Mitte/Ende der Achziger Jahre: Metallica und Slayer natürlich, aber auch weniger zitierte Bands wie Exodus, Kreator und Overkill. Daß an den Albumaufnahmen nicht alle sieben Mitglieder, sondern tatsächlich nur drei beteiligt waren, ist dabei nur eine Randnotiz, verfolgt die Band doch seit Bestehen einen sagen wir mal flexiblen Ansatz, was diese Dinge betrifft. Expect the unexpected, das trifft wohl auf keine andere Band so zu wie auf The Gizz.

‘Light It Up’ zeigt ihn in seiner bislang ausdrucksstärksten Form und außerhalb seiner Komfortzone. „Ich habe mich gezwungen, Songs auf eine andere Art und Weise zu schreiben. Der größte Unterschied bei diesem Album war, dass ich mich selbst nicht limitierte und nicht das Gefühl hatte, mich anpassen zu müssen. Ich habe mich einfach hingesetzt und die Songs geschrieben, die ich schreiben wollte. Mit einem Sound, den ich produzieren wollte, ohne an das Genre zu denken. “Die meisten Songs auf dem Album schrieb er zwischen 23 und 6 Uhr. „Ich schreibe meistens in der Nacht“, sagt er. „Ich bin eine ziemlich hyperaktive Person. Tagsüber denke ich an eine Million verschiedene Dinge, doch nachts kann ich einfach auf den kreativeren Teil von mir zugreifen.“ Kris Barras hat von John Mayall über Beth Hart bis zu Rich Robinson mit vielen Größen der Musik gespielt. „Doch es war die Zeit mit Billy F Gibbons, die mich zu dem gemacht hat, was ich bin. Jeden Abend mit ihm auf der Bühne zu stehen und „Sharp Dressed Man“ zu spielen, war absolut verrückt. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass mir so etwas passieren würde. Nur in seiner Nähe zu seine, war extrem inspirierend. Einmal sagte er zu mir: „Wir müssen das nicht tun, wir dürfen es. “Dieser Satz hat mich wirklich beeindruckt. Wir haben verdammt viel Glück, auf dieser Bühne spielen zu dürfen. „ Vielleicht sind es die Songs, die Show oder aber seine persönliche Verbindung zu seinen Fans, die er jeden Abend trifft. Weil er dieser Fan war. Der junge Kris Barras sah im Juni 2009 eine seiner Lieblingsbands, Black Stone Cherry, in der Exeter Cavern. Über zehn Jahre später tourt er nun selbst mit ihnen.

Auf einem steht: ‘Born to overcome.’ Auf den anderen steht: ‘Born to be free.’” Diese Vorsätze, so Schenker, stehen auch im Herzen von “Revelation” – ein Album, geschaffen aus Tragik und treu zu seiner Art des reinen Ausdrucks seiner Selbst. “Ich verstehe mich heute selbst besser und warum mein Leben so gelaufen ist, wie es ist“ meint er. “Als ich als Kind angefangen habe, hatte ich Spaß daran, Gitarre zu spielen. Nicht um irgendetwas zu erzielen, oder mich mit irgendjemandem zu messen. Ich wollte immer lieber Zufriedenheit als berühmt zu sein. Für mich ging es darum, ich selbst zu sein. Es ging um die reine Freude daran, Gitarre zu spielen. Und nach all der Zeit ist das immer noch so.”

Das Line-Up der Band war neben McGuinn superb besetzt: Rick Vito (lead-guitar, back- and lead vocals) kam von John Mayall und war genau eine Dekade später für vier Jahre Mitglied bei Fleetwood Mac, Charlie Harrison (bass and background-vocals) war vorher bei den Progressive Rockern von Judas Jump und Tundra und schloss sich später der Westcoast-Legende Poco an und Greg Thomas trommelte vor den Thunderbyrds u.a. bei Loudon Wainwright III, Seals & Crofts und Leon Russell. Eine perfekt eingespielte Band, die ihren Chef Roger McGuinn („Pick it up McGuinn!!!“) so manches Mal zu Höchstleistungen herausforderte. Eine Rockpalast-Sternstunde, die auch nach knapp 42 Jahren nichts an Kraft, Intensität und Leidenschaft verloren hat.

Bei den Liveshows war u.a. sein langjähriger Freund und legendärer finnischer Bassist Masa Maijanen und als Drummer Santeri Saksala dabei, den er sich von der Band Wheel ausgeliehen hatte. Ben spielte lange bei den Leningrad Cowboys und trat mit ihnen in über 20 Ländern auf, inklusive Japan und Australien. Er schrieb auch die meisten originalen Leningrad Cowboys Songs. Von 2001 bis 2004 war er danach Mitglied bei Wishbone Ash und verließ die Band im Jahr 2004, weil er sich wieder seiner eigenen Band widmen wollte. 2019 wird Ben Granfelt erneut im Herbst auf Tournee gehen. Parallel arbeitet er an einem neuen Studioalbum, was im Frühjahr 2020 erscheinen soll.

Allman, bekannt als Sänger, Songwriter und Pianist der Allman Brothers Band, begann zunächst nach internen Meinungsverschiedenheiten in der Band über eine Solokarriere nachzudenken. The amount of excellent bands growing out of the San Diego soil is simply unparalleled. Among the youngest generation of these bands are the five-piece Monarch, a band rooted in psychedelia and experimental prog, with a view towards broader horizons. On September 27th, Sheffield-based experimental stalwarts 65daysofstatic release their anticipated, expansive new album replicr, 2019 via Superball Music. This immersive album highlights a continuation from previous releases and a constant evolution which has been evident since their formation. In 2016, they released their critically-acclaimed score for ‘No Man’s Sky’, the most anticipated game in the world at that time. Their generative, infinitely long, in-game score was experienced uniquely by each of the game’s millions of players. This crash course in algorithmic music led to the band building their own procedural musical systems and generative soundscapes, crafting custom synths, live coding and writing software to make music for (and against) them. This new way of working they called “Decomposition Theory” — decomposing from the infinite possibilities their systems churned out instead of composing from the ground up, a dialectic between the band and their machines. From the eventual smouldering wreckage of their broken software systems and entropic algorithms, the band realised their next record needed to be the opposite. CD versions will be shipped in mid-October. „It was a new thing for me to let the first In Continuum concept album Acceleration Theory end on a cliff-hanger,“ Kerzner tells Prog. „The new album, which is part two of the story called Annihilation, has a very different ending.“ Kerzner formed In Continuum as a vehicle for songs he‘d originally written for the follow-up to Sound Of Contact‘s 2013 Dimensionaut album. The album features Nick D‘Virgilio and Marco Minnemann on drums and Randy McStine, John Wesley and Fernando Perdomo on guitar. Kerzner has also released a new live album, Static Live, out end of August, which is a live performance of Kerzner‘s 2017 solo album Static. The album is available as a double CD Special Edition. The second CD features special guest Francis Dunnery, of It Bites fame and contains a 3 song tribute to the late Kevin Gilbert.
