OF THE MONTH COSMOS

SIWOD NILTIAK YB TRA

FLOWER

The word “cosmos” is a name given to the flower by Spanish priests who originally grew the flowers during their missions abroad. They were blown away by the flower’s petals, which are quite stately and evenly placed. As a result, they gave the flower the name “cosmos” to symbolize its order and harmony with the rest of the universe. This is a direct derivative of the Greek word “kosmos,” which means world order. Greeks thought that the natural world existed in perfect harmony. Cosmos are the perfect flowers to give to a romantic partner or lover. They often represent the idea of walking hand in hand together. They can also symbolize all of the joys that life, and particularly love, can bring. Cosmos flowers are both beautiful and ornamental. Grown as traditional cottage garden plants, they make beautiful cut flowers. As the birth flower for the month of October, cosmos flowers are often used as gifts for people with birthdays in this month. The cosmos flower is also the second wedding anniversary flower, too.

ALEX RUDIN WRITTEN BY ISABELLA CANIZARES

A picture is worth a thousand words but for Alex Rudin, her artwork is a form of sparking change. Rudin, based in New York City, is a multimedia artist who uses her work to touch upon social justice issues and politics as well as working with multiple human rights organizations and nonprofits. She has an illustration degree with a minor in the fine arts from the Parsons School of Design.

"The arts run really, really deep and thick in my family and I’ve had the most supportive family so I was always encouraged to be artistic"

PROCESSING POWER BY ALEX RUDIN

Rudin started her artwork as a form of self expression. Struggling with an eating disorder and issues with sexual abuse in her life, she found that her art became her outlet to express her emotions. Growing up in a New York Jewish family, Rudin says art has always been a formative part of her childhood. “The arts run really, really deep and thick in my family and I’ve had the most supportive family so I was always encouraged to be artistic,” Rudin said. As a white Jewish woman, Rudin says how she feels it’s her responsibility to use her privilege to advocate for people who aren’t as privileged. “I think it’s a really big part of who I am, and my identity… I also think as a social justice advocate I think that especially now, there is a very intense rise in anti Semitism not only in this country but across the world and I feel very compelled to speak up for my community,” Rudin said. In 2019 she founded her creative studio Rudin Studios, LLC. and her artwork has been shown in multiple exhibitions in multiple states such as New York, Philadelphia and more. But when COVID shut the world down, Rudin says it completely changed everything saying how, “ I had to completely re-work what my business was… I think I underwent a serious transformation personally.” “I remember seeing my city in such a horrible place and terrible conditions and I felt compelled to help … I decided to make a series of paintings and auctioned them off and donated 100% of the proceeds to homeless and traffic to youth in the city and then I did the same thing for the George Floyd protests and Bryonna Taylor and Ahmad Aubrey and donated 100% of the proceeds to black live matter organizations,” Rudin said.

During the election she started doing work for political organizations, mostly female run with the goal to get the female vote for the Biden Harris ticket. “Through that I started getting partnerships, and working with political organizations and then I started working with human rights organizations and other nonprofits and now that is what I do primarily,” Rudin said. Rudin says her work had shifted during this time, instead of making art for herself, she began dedicating her art into becoming a “voice for the voiceless.” Rudin says how COVID has impacted everyone’s lives and has made us look at ourselves and our moral compass differently but that even through that rough time, “COVID was an incredible restructuring of not only who I am but what I do… I feel like I finally have a purpose and I’m doing something that matters… finding that meaning, it’s what everybody searches for so I feel lucky.” Out of the 200 pieces she has created over the past year, the one Rudin takes the most pride in, is one that she has not released yet. The piece itself, measuring up to 8 feet long, was the first piece she made during COVID. It is called “A Guernica” inspired by the famous Picasso painting. “ I was super inspired by war paintings because everything I was hearing on the news was war terminology and everyone saying ‘this is a war we have to fight’ and that was the battle cry that the media was using about COVID,” Rudin said. Inspired by this event and art history, she felt as if New York City had become the modern day bombing of Guernica. “ I made my interpretation of a modern day Guernica and I love it, I still love it [and] I’m excited to show it at some point one day but it’s a piece that is really important and special to me,” Rudin said.

ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR A ZERO WASTE BATHROOM A bathroom is a place in our homes where we can produce a lot of waste, as many products we use are single-use and disposable. But we can reverse this trend by learning how to be zero waste in the bathroom and using the right essentials. It isn’t that complicated! It doesn’t mean that you will have to change your habits and your whole lifestyle. By simply switching to more eco-friendly products, you will drastically reduce your waste, and it will help the environment!

1 – BAR OF SOAP

One of the easiest ways to be zero waste in the bathroom is to switch to a soap bar instead of buying shower gel in plastic bottles. It is also efficient when you’re traveling as it doesn’t risk exploding in your suitcase. On top of that, you can use your bar of soap for shaving, instead of purchasing shaving cream in those wasteful aerosol cans.

2 – SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER BARS

Similarly, swapping shampoo bars will reduce a lot of unnecessary waste! These bars last a long time and often contain fewer chemicals than conventional shampoos. If you use a conditioner, consider switching to a solid bar as well. But as I mentioned in my blog post about things I do not own as a minimalist, I don’t think conditioners are necessary for all hair types. So please only buy it if you need one.

3 – CORNSTARCH AS A DRY SHAMPOO

Once you’ve finished your current dry shampoo, why don’t you switch to a more natural and eco-friendly option? Corn starch is a fantastic alternative to dry shampoo, and I use it the same way as dry shampoo, and it works very well! The great thing is that cornstarch is 100% natural, whereas conventional dry shampoos are full of harmful chemicals. They also often come in aerosol cans, which cannot be recycled and are bad for the environment.

4 – LOW FLOW SHOWERHEAD

Zero waste isn’t only about reducing our physical waste as much as possible. It implies that we should preserve all resources to the best of our ability, which means that we should also prevent water waste! Switching to a low-flow showerhead is an excellent option for that, as it can save thousands of gallons of water each year!

5 – LOW WASTE SKINCARE

There are different options for zero waste lotions and creams! Consider trying lotion bars or lotion and creams that come in glass or metal packaging. If you prefer making your products, many recipes online explain how to create them, with a few simple ingredients. As a lotion alternative for my body, I prefer using oil and natural butter. I’m currently using sweet almond oil and shea butter, and I’m happy with them!

6 – BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH

A bamboo toothbrush is one of the easiest zero waste swaps for beginners to make! Once you’ve used up all your plastic toothbrushes, start buying bamboo toothbrushes instead. Their handle is compostable, and it contributes to reducing plastic waste on Earth. Another benefit of bamboo is that it is antibacterial, which is ideal for a toothbrush!

7 – LOW WASTE TOOTHPASTE

Toothpaste almost always comes in plastic tubes, but some alternatives are way better for the environment! For instance, some brands put their toothpaste in recyclable metal tubes. But you can also find toothpaste tablets or tooth powder that come in glass or metal packaging. And if you prefer making your toothpaste, you can find many recipes online. For instance, you can mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and add a few drops of essential oil. And there you have your zero waste toothpaste!

8 – ECO-FRIENDLY FLOSS

Teeth health is essential. But, most flosses you can find at the store are made of plastic, so they cannot be composted or recycled. Luckily, you can find an alternative to them. I’ve never tried them, but I’ve heard great things about water flossers. Another option is to get a 100% compostable floss in a glass container(and compost it afterward). Both alternatives will help reduce so much waste, especially if you floss every day!

9 – NATURAL MOUTHWASH

Conventional mouthwashes are full of chemicals, and some are believed to increase the risk of oral cancer. Even though you’re supposed to spit it out of your mouth, you might not want to use this kind of product. Instead, you can very quickly make a homemade natural mouthwash! Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water, and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil. And there you have it!

10 – SUSTAINABLE Q-TIPS

Q-tips are single-use, so they create a lot of unnecessary trash! I also read that they’re not suitable for our ears anyway, so we’d be better off giving them up completely. But if you can’t stop using them, finish all the ones you have and consider switching to a reusable version instead.

COMMON AREAS MOST PEOPLE FORGET TO DECLUTTER

1 – PURSES, WALLETS, AND COAT POCKETS

Purses, wallets, and coat pockets are used daily, and many things can get hidden in those! Whenever we leave the house, we use them as a way to carry our most essential items. Credit cards, cash, phone, keys, and other small knickknacks! If we forget about decluttering them regularly, we may find many irrelevant things in them. This includes trash we may be carrying around uselessly! I'm thinking about receipts, wrappers, papers, or even some nasty stuff! Go through your coat pockets, wallets, and purses and only keep valuable things in them!

2 – USED NOTEBOOKS AND JOURNALS

The goal of having a notebook or a journal is to write our thoughts and ideas in them. We can also use them to take notes for a class we are taking or planning our days. But once they're complete, we often put notebooks and journals away in a drawer and never look back at them. Take those you never use and recycle them! You may also prefer to scan the most important pages and get rid of useless and irrelevant ones.

3 – ABOVE THE FRIDGE

I don't know for you, but as I do not have a lot of storage space in my kitchen, I always end up having to put things above my fridge. Generally, I only put my bowl of fruits and teas, and I use them every day, so it doesn't bother me. But I know that some people place things above their fridges and completely forget about them. If that's you, consider checking what's on your fridge and get rid of anything unnecessary. Having too many things on your fridge adds to visual clutter! This is not ideal if you want to create a peaceful, clutterfree home that helps you unwind and relax!

4 - STORAGE SPACES

As we say: when it's out of sight, it's out of mind! While storage spaces are often necessary, most people put things in there and do not look at them for years and, sometimes, decades. Doing so, things pile up, and the quantity can go out of hand after a while. You might not even be able to find the things you're looking for anymore. So schedule an afternoon or a weekend and go through the stuff in your attic, basement, crawl space, and shed. You might be surprised by what you'll find, and you may realize you own things you didn't even know you had!

5 – UNDER THE BED

This is one of the most common areas people forget to declutter! If you store things under your bed, you might not go through these storage bins very often. As they're out of sight, they're so easy to skip! I don't particularly appreciate having things under my bed; it makes the room look a lot more cluttered. Try to remove anything under your bed, and you'll find it will be a lot easier to clean there!

6 – IN THE CAR

As cars are either parked outside or in the garage, it is widespread that we do not think about decluttering this area in our lives. And there are many places in cars where we can store things! In the glove box, on seats, on the floor, in the trunk…I like to have nothing except the bare necessities that we need to have in our cars. To have a clutter-free car, take everything with you whenever you leave your car and leave no trash behind!

THE 8 R’S OF SUSTAINABILIT Y AND HOW TO APPLY THEM Do you know the motto “Reduce Reuse Recycle”? I’m sure you’ve heard of it many times! It is often used to guide people in their sustainable living and zero waste journeys. However, there are a lot more R’s of sustainability that tends to be forgotten about! Living an eco-friendly life doesn’t only imply that we need to reduce, reuse and recycle. Of course, these are essential, and we need to do more of them as much as possible. But sustainability doesn’t end there. It’s way more than that. There are many more layers, and many more actions humans should consider to reduce their environmental impact! We need to be a lot more intentional in our daily actions in various spheres, and there is no be-all and end-all. Every little step is essential! But I think there’s a hierarchy of 8 things that we should be doing, preferably starting from the first one and slowly progressing through it. This hierarchy is the 8 R’s of sustainability, and here is how to apply them in your life!

1 – RETHINK

A crucial point that doesn’t get mentioned enough in the R’s of sustainability is “rethink”! By that, I mean rethinking your whole lifestyle and assessing what you would like to change and do differently. It’s also a way to be more conscious of the things you’re doing right. Rethinking how you’re living your life will help you know which areas you can become more sustainable in. Remember that no one is perfect! You cannot do everything right! But you can still make progress and improve on your green living journey! So think about how you’re spending money, and if you need all the things you buy. Get educated and learn about the impact humans have on the planet and how it affects biodiversity. Which companies do you want to support with your money? Which materials or ingredients are better for you and the planet? Do a trash audit to understand what you consume, what packaging you can avoid, and how to improve. It’s also a great time to go through your stuff, and you might realize that maybe you have too much. That it may be time to be more mindful and intentional next time you’re shopping.

2 – REFUSE

Speaking of shopping, refuse to buy things you don’t need. Doing that will have a massive impact and reduce your environmental footprint considerably! Refusing can also mean not purchase something when you can rent or borrow them. Sometimes, you may realize as well that you can do without the item you’re looking for. Take action to avoid chemicals and polluting ingredients in the things you do buy. That way, you won’t be contributing to pollution, and it’s healthier for you too! The same thing applies to overpackaged items. Choose the least packaged options when you can, and avoid plastic packaging as much as possible. Refuse to use your car when you can go walking. It will make you move your body, and it’s better for the environment! You might also want to stop supporting unethical and unsustainable companies contributing to global pollution and climate change. Say no to freebies, like free samples, leaflets, promotional pens, and t-shirts. You probably don’t need them in your life! And don’t forget to refuse the plastic cutlery and plastic bag, and bring your own cutlery set and cotton bag next time you’re ordering take-out!

3 – REDUCE

As human beings, we all need to consume some things. But to be more sustainable and reduce our waste, we need to reduce our consumption. This is so important! Everything has an impact! So by reducing our consumption, I mean consumption of everything. Take action to conserve water at home. Stop wasting energy and start saving it. Plan your meals with what you have in your fridge and pantry to avoid food waste. Invest in quality products to prevent waste in the bathroom. Use less paper at home and work; it will help save so many trees! To “reduce,” you might also want to try and apply minimalism in your day-to-day life! You will be consuming fewer things, fewer clothes, and you’ll have less junk cluttering up your space. This means that you’ll also have more minor to maintain, fewer things will get broken, and you’ll generate less waste. And you’ll experience so many other benefits of living minimally! Buy things intentionally and stop impulse buying; your wallet will be grateful for that! You’ll be saving so much money! Also, don’t forget to use things up at home before buying a replacement. Another fantastic way to reduce is to stop buying singleuse products, such as plastic water bottles, paper napkins, or disposable coffee cups. Invest in quality reusable items that will last and that you’ll be able to reuse for years! For instance, you might want to get a stainless steel water bottle or reusable napkins!

4 – REUSE

This one is one of my favorite R’s of sustainability! I love getting creative and finding new ways to reuse things! If you want to live more sustainably and give zero waste a try, reuse items you already own as much as you can. It will extend their useful life, which means less waste is created, and fewer new things need to be produced! That way, you are not contributing to the depletion of natural resources nor our global waste problem. For instance, you can reuse glass jars and bottles to store food or drinks in them. Reuse cardboard boxes for moving or shipping stuff. And don’t forget about the wrapping paper you keep next time you give a gift! Another simple way to reuse is to wear clothes more than once before washing them. That way, they’ll last a lot longer, you’ll save water and energy, and you’ll have less laundry to do! That’s a great way to make your wardrobe more sustainable! If you don’t have a use for something that is still usable, rehome it. For example, you can give the clothes your kids no longer wear to your friends’ children. You can also donate books you’ve read to the little free libraries scattered around neighborhoods or to someone who’ll enjoy them. You could even make some money by selling stuff to other people! Buying things used is also one of my favorite ways to reuse items that already exist. Second-hand shopping is fantastic if we want to save the planet!

5 – REPAIR

A hundred years ago, people used to take care of their things and repair them as soon as they broke. Unfortunately, very few people still do this nowadays. This is such a shame! Things are more and more affordable, but this comes at the cost of a low quality. Most items break so quickly these days! And the problem is that we live in such an abundance of cheap things that many people don’t find it’s worth their time repairing their items. While sometimes, we cannot improve things because of planned obsolescence, there are many things we can fix without much effort! Learn to mend holes in your socks or your t-shirts; it is such a valuable skill to have! Consider bringing your worn-out shoes to the cobbler to see if he can extend their life for a bit. Or fix a broken toy with some glue to save it from the landfill! Get creative and try to repair everything you can when something breaks! There are many tutorials online to learn how to fix most things around the house! Where I live, there are also “repair cafés” where people can bring broken things and get help to select them for free. You may have one near you as well! Repairing stuff not only saves you so much money, but it’s also one of the best things you can do for the planet!

6 – REPURPOSE

Repurposing is similar to reusing. But instead of reusing something for its initial purpose, you’re giving a new function. This often comes with DIYing and modifying items, but not necessarily. A fundamental way to live a more sustainable life is to upcycle things you cannot use anymore into a new something you may need! Doing this will improve your creativity, and I swear, you’ll be so proud of yourself at the end! Not to mention that you’ll save many things from the bin! If you have an item you don’t know what to do with, go on Pinterest and look for practical and fun ways to upcycle it. For instance, if you have a chipped mug, turn it into a planter for your seedlings! I also love using glass jars as vases and old t-shirts as rags! If you have an old piece of wood, you could create beautiful home decor for your walls with paint and a bit of imagination. Old socks are excellent dust removers, and you can transform an old sheet and turn it into a few reusable cotton bags!

7 – RECYCLE

If you cannot refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, or repurpose an item, check whether you can recycle it! Recycling isn’t ideal: materials like paper can only be recycled a handful of times, and we need to add virgin material to create a new one. It also takes a lot of energy to recycle! So it’s not perfect, but it’s still better than sending a recyclable item to the landfill! For instance, did you know that metal and glass can be recycled infinitely? So if your local recycling center takes those two materials, take advantage of them! But for recycling to be efficient, check online what your local recycling facilities can recycle. And remember to follow the rules! Because if you put something that cannot be recycled in your recycling bin, it contaminates other recyclables, and your entire bin content might end up in the landfill! So don’t put non-recyclables in your recycling bin out of guilt, in the hope that they’ll get recycled because they won’t! Also, don’t forget to rinse your dirty recycling before putting it in the recycling bin. Bear in mind that greasy cardboard or paper isn’t recyclable. And small items that are smaller than your hand aren’t either! You may also want to look for clothing recycling programs in your local area. That way, you will know where to bring your wornout clothes!

8 – ROT

Rotting is a synonym for composting, turning organic matter (food, for instance) into nutrient-rich soil. Organic matter represents around one-third of our bins, so composting your food scraps is a fantastic way to reduce waste in the kitchen! It’s also a way to give back to the planet what it gave us! If you’ve never done it, there are so many guides online to help you understand how to create a compost; look it up! Composting will not only be beneficial for your garden, but you will also be giving back nutrients to the Earth. This will improve the quality of the soil and slow down erosion! Not to mention all the waste you are preventing from going to landfill! Food doesn’t decompose well in landfills, and it releases methane, a greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. That’s why it’s so crucial to compost! Having a composter in your garden is ideal for that, but you can quickly start an indoor compost in an apartment too. You can then check if gardeners or community gardens in your areas can use it. I also know that some cities offer compost pickups, so find out if that’s the case in your town. Those were the 8 R’s of sustainability! These are the main actions we should be doing to help the environment and contribute to saving the planet! We could add even more R’s to this, like regrow, reflect or regift. If you are trying to live a more eco-friendly life, remembering and applying these principles will significantly impact you! These 8 R’s of sustainability cover the basics of what we should be doing, so you’ll know what to do to reduce your environmental footprint! Of course, you cannot do everything! At least not at once. And do not even try to, because you’ll get overwhelmed and risk losing motivation! We can incorporate so many things, daily actions, and habits into our lives to protect the Earth! Try to do your best and know that every little thing you do to live more sustainably impacts you! And it will create positive change in the long run. Which R’s of sustainability are you trying to incorporate into your life at the moment? Which are you already applying to your lifestyle?

SPIRITUAL

Spiritual awakenings are often depicted as calm, funloving times where all guides and spiritual protectors come out to help you, but that’s often far from the truth. It can stir up unusual, intense feelings, cause erratic thought patterns and even cause you to question, ‘is it normal for feeling like this?’ The spiritual awakening process is more of a transformation, from the dark to the light. This indepth guide to spiritual awakenings identifies the 19 significant spiritual awakening symptoms and aims to guide you through the whole process, so you’re not left in the ‘dark.’ (Literally.) In this article, you will find everything you need to know about the spiritual transformation process.

AWAKENING

WHAT IS A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING?

In simple terms, a spiritual awakening marks the beginning of your spiritual journey, and it is effectively staged 1 of your journey (more on this later). They can be triggered by traumatic life events and often happen at the most unexpected times, but one thing you should know, they will always occur when you need them most. There’s no way to know when one is coming, and there’s no way to prepare for them either. They effectively shake up your life and leave you in the dark. Et, at the same time, transform you from the caterpillar into the butterfly. Why do we have them? Spiritual awakenings help you see beyond the illusions and conventional fabric of society and instead enable you to transition into your ‘true’ life, the life you were meant to live from birth, a life full of true abundance, prosperity, and happiness.

Consider a spiritual awakening as a major wake-up call from the universe.

BEST CRYSTALS FOR DEVELOPING INTUITION

WRITEN BY SAMANTHA DIAZ

holistic living

Embracing our intuition and learning to develop this gift is part of the foundation of humans existence. Intuition is not about "wowoo" or abstract hippy kind of concepts; and instead, it is the capacity that guides humans (and all the animals) to the right move every time they need it. In ancient times, intuition guided humans to safer shelters as far as possible from predators. In the same way, to date shows us the way to walk, seeing beyond the visible.

Intuition is the ability to understand something naturally, without the need for reasoning. It's the ability to instantly know what's better most regardless of the situation's complexity, notions, or data. Awakening Intuition is not about using magic or spell; it's a practical ability rooted in our wholeness of being. Over this age, saturated by information and data, full of distractions and messages designed to drain our attention and energy, intuition is the inner compass that allows us to stick to our values and purposes, avoiding manipulation, emotional and energetic weakness, and chaos.

But there's so much more.

We apply intuition on a multitude of different levels. Any level is more critical than others; we can talk about different levels because of the frequencies these different kinds of intuitions require. These levels are all connected by the quantum field, the eternal present moment. Our body is the vessel that allows us to surf among the different levels of reality to which intuition gives access. When we maintain a full connection with our body, we open up the door of intuition, recognizing and listening to the messages that sensations and feelings deliver to the consciousness. At this level, by paying attention to our intuition, we bring to the consciousness what our body and our soul need, and we can also learn more about situations, people, and events. To access this territory, we use empathy and physical knowledge, involving physical sensations, emotional feelings, or energetic feelings. We call this kind of Intuition Clairsentient. This level is the closest one to the energy of the Earth.

BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO GROUNDING So you know those moments when you don't feel like yourself, but you can't quite figure out why? This is most likely because you are not adequately center or grounded. In this post, discover the importance of grounding along with three techniques to do it!

WHAT IS GROUNDING, AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Simply put, the spiritual term grounding refers to energetically connecting to the Earth so that you feel safe and at ease. In detail, grounding is a technique that guides the connection and alignment with yourself and mother nature, which brings a sense of safety and calm. As a result, being properly grounded increases your mental, physical and emotional health. Being properly grounded is essential for your health and well-being. When you are centered, you are one with the Earth and yourself, which brings you a sense of calm, strength, and comfort. When you are grounded, you feel safe and secure because you know with every ounce of your being that EVERYTHING IS okay; you know that NOTHING can change your inner peace! If you feel anxious, unmotivated, and lazy, this could be because you are not grounded; here are three ways to achieve a center state of being.

Earthing

Earthing is a straightforward and effective method to use, especially if you are beginning your grounding journey. The best way to achieve grounding is to step outside barefoot and physically be with mother earth herself. Connecting with the Earth this way can bring you back to a balanced and neutral state.

To further explain, the Earth's surface contains negative ions that make their way into your body and release free radicals that have been accumulating. This grounding technique is commonly referred to as earthing. To do this, step outside barefoot onto nature such as a park, forest (just don't get lost!), or your backyard! Next, enjoy the fresh air in your lungs. Then, embrace the dirt, grass, and leaves beneath your feet or surrounding your body (if you're lying down). Lastly, be. Be with mother earth fully. Acknowledge her beauty. Be in the moment with her. Allow yourself to connect and align with the Earth's energy.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Technique

This technique will take you through your five senses to bring you back to the present. You can use this method whenever you are overwhelmed, anxious, or dissociated with your environment. To explain further, when you achieve a calm mental state, you are opening up your energy frequency to absorb the Earth's grounding energy.

5 – LOOK: Look around for five things you can see and say them aloud. For example, I see a tree, I see a dog, I see the rocks, I see a flower, and I see the clouds. 4 – FEEL: Pay attention to your body and say out loud four things that you feel. For example, I feel my feet warm in my socks, I feel the wind blowing on my face, I feel the grass on my feet, and I feel the texture of the flower in my hand. 3 – LISTEN: Listen for three sounds and say them out loud. For example, I hear the birds chirping, I hear dogs barking, and I hear the leaves rustling. 2 – SMELL: Say two things you can smell. If you can't smell anything at that moment, then name your two favorite smells. For example, I smell roses, and I smell cookies. 1 – TASTE: Say one thing you can taste. If you can't taste anything, then say your favorite thing to taste. I taste chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.

Be a Tree

Yes, a tree. I know this technique seems weird, but it is a beautiful way to connect with the Earth. Doing this sends out a powerful energy frequency that you are a part of the Earth. To start: 1. Take a deep breath and clear your mind. 2. Imagine roots coming out from the bottom of your feet and/or your root chakra. 3. Envision those roots growing deep into the Earth (it helps to be outside for this one, but I have had success laying in bed while doing this). 4. Connect with feelings that you and Mother Earth are one. 5. Remain in this state of mind until you feel an unbreakable connection. 6. Remember to come out of this mindset slowly, as this can be a powerful experience.

Final Thoughts So next time you are feeling off, ground yourself, and you will feel a lot better!

POSITIVE THOUGHTS, POSITIVE WORDS, POSITIVE ACTIONS By Olivia Guthrie

Positive thoughts, positive words, positive actions. This is a nice goal to have, to be an overall positive human, but sometimes it can seem so very impossible. We all want positive things to happen to us and come our way, and for those who may believe what you put out is what you get back, exhibiting positivity is key to achieving this. Even those who might be more hesitant to the idea of an outer power influencing our lives can see the benefits of positivity.

magazine

There are three parts to this, the first and easiest being actions. Positive actions can come the easiest to most of us. This has to do with how we interact with others, and simply means to be kind to one another. Bare principle being: if you see something you can do to help someone out, do it. Daily small things like holding the door open for someone or taking the trash out for your family can count as positive actions. Actions done not for praise, but your own intrinsic want to help another person. Next is words. This can be a little more tricky. I feel it is common, especially for us in the younger generations, to speak down at ourselves. Saying “I look ugly” or “I hate myself” hinders you, even if said jokingly. Speaking negativity into the word only reinforces it in your life. There is power in the tongue. To counter this and decide to be more positive is hard, but possible. Start by speaking positively to those around you; most of us find it easier to be kind to those we love compared to ourselves. If you hear your friends saying negative things, tell them they are wrong and reinforce the positive opposite of whatever they may have said. This can also be extended to strangers. Giving a random person you may meet a compliment can make their day, but also make you feel good too. Once you start actively speaking positively to everyone you encounter, it naturally leads you to speak more positively about yourself too. This takes time and conscious effort, but you can do it! Lastly, and more difficult, though arguably most important is thoughts. No one is a bigger critique of you than you. I am sure we have all heard this before, and know it to be true, it definitely is for me. But, we can’t hope and expect the universe to bring positivity into our lives if the whole time we are only speaking the worst of the worst to ourselves. Being kind to ourselves is a journey and will take time. My number one tip to help you along the way is every time a negative thought slips by immediately countering it with a positive. At first it will feel phony, you may not entirely believe that you are smart or pretty or good enough, but reinforcing it whenever your mind tries to tell you otherwise can at least balance out the negative and maybe one day you will actually start believing it. Only by putting out good, can we expect good to happen. This is truly what manifestation is. Don’t aim for perfection, we are human and have bad days. We won’t be totally positive all the time, and trying to force it can lead to toxic positivity. But, having a goal to actively try is 100x better than giving into negativity entirely. This all really leads to a mindset of gratitude. Gratitude is the action of being thankful. I say action because it requires the conscious effort of the person choosing to engage in grateful thinking. For November, the Just Begin theme is gratitude. For this month I, along with some of my co-writers, will be doing a gratitude challenge. We are challenging ourselves to write everyday in a gratitude journal, writing down three things that we are grateful for, for that day. It doesn’t have to be a fancy journal (though I did buy a specific one for this purpose, any excuse to be stationary, honestly) any random journal or notebook you may have lying around will do. I encourage all readers to join us in the month of October to be conscious of the things we have to be thankful for in our lives.

THE “VULNERABILITY HANGOVER” HEALS MENTAL HEALTH AND SEX TO LIVE AN AUTHENTIC LIFE

WRITTEN BY BARBARA ESTRADA

Would you buy a vibrator if your health insurance medically covered it? An interesting question to open the conversation around what’s coming next [no pun intended]. That is, what some may call, the “vulnerability hangover” over female sexuality. Women have been shamed for centuries for enjoying the pleasures of sex and exploring their sexuality. However, this story isn’t to discuss the obvious lack of agency women have over their bodies in society. It’s to discuss the shame around sex for women. If there isn’t shame happening in schools about sex then there is certainly shame to find in the church. The intersectionality between education and religion when it came to sex education was the reality for many women in America as well as other countries. Samantha Caffrey, a sexpositive advoacte, attended a Catholic high school in the New England area of America and her education on sex was non-existent as she recalls it. “In my opinion, it was a very shame-based sex education. You abstaiend from having sex until marriage and even when you’re married, you have sex to have a baby. I actually don’t remember (even) having conversations about labeling my (own) anatomy,” says Caffrey. In that same highschool,, she had a religion class where the teacher would use the class to discuss anti-abortion. Caffreywould argue with this teacher often as she couldn’t understand or accept the fact that “choosing to get an abortion would then have her go to Hell,” (an ideology to popular in religiously affiliated educational institutions).

Caffrey’s home, on the other hand, was a sex positive space where her mother,,encouraged safe sex practices by providing her with condoms and birth control. But even with a sex positive household, Caffrey confessed that she is still learning and unlearning the things that influenced her over the years due to societys portrayal of sex around women. The common stereotypes tends to be, “women are hoes if they find pleasure in sex,” and that really impacted Caffrey along with many other women who feel triggered by such statement. The change and de-stigmatization of female sexuality began three years ago when Caffrey started working with a exual pleasure company, as a PR executive. When the opportunity to work with this company arrived, she began testing their products, and recalls having a profound pleasure experience. “I think it was realizing that my body is made for pleasure and there’s nothing wrong or dirty about that,” said Caffrey.“When you start to experience pleasure, it brings pleasure in all aspects of your life. I really believe if you don’t ask yourself or your partner(s) for pleasure, I think it’s a snowball effect. You’re also probably not asking for a raise, the boundaries you need from your family… it’s an internalized trickle down effect.” Once Caffrey was open to talking about maturbation and sex, women would come to her for advice. This was when she realized the clear need to talk about sex and female sexuality. Caffrey goes on to share about a woman who told her a story of how vibrators helped her after her chemo-treatments. Something with the pelvic floor muscles and how these vibrators helped her health. In a synchronistic way, later in her career Caffrey worked with former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Elders who shared her opinion on prescription vibrators and the underestimated health benefits behind using them to INSIDER.

“That story [of that woman] stuck with me and how we are stigmatizing using a vibrator to help our health or heal trauma. I know it’s a controversial belief, but I believe that vibrators should be covered by health insurance. If we are teaching people about their pleasure and providing the access to pleasure as well, it’s helping us to be safe,” said Caffrey.

With her fire and passion to stand up for what she believes in, Caffrey is no stranger to sharing her story, including anxiety. There was a point in her life, in her early 20s, as she says, “I couldn’t get up from bed. I was fired from my job because I couldn’t make it to my job. I was often late and wasn’t in a place to talk to them about it.” After sharing this testament of her mental health struggle on social media, a woman, who she worked with in retail years ago, was asking Caffrey for advice on how to help with her daughter’s anxiety. This meant a lot to Caffrey because when we share our stories as women we can help others to feel more powerful and less alone. This is all to say - sometimes the “vulnerability hangover” is worth it. follow

IT'S ABOUT THE GROWTH

WRITTEN BY MELISSA CANCIO Between graduating from my masters, traveling for a few months, landing an amazing job, getting back to the gym, changing doctors, and making my first car purchase; it’s been a wild ride. I’m currently the definition of adulting. Mentally, I’m drained. I have so many more responsibilities than I would’ve ever imagined in just a few months. While I know each came at me hard, I know I’m not alone. I choose to look at life in a more positive way because that’s the only thing that will keep me going. I want to grow in all sorts of ways. My friends and family challenge me to be better than the person I was yesterday. My supervisors recognize that I go above and beyond for the work that I do. And I have ‘me’ days to relax and recharge. You choose to manifest what you want, when you want it, and how you’re going to get it. It all comes full circle when you prove to yourself that you can set that goal and accomplish it. While you succeed, make sure your support system succeeds with you. Manifest a goal oriented field, because I believe that will get you places… It has worked for me.

I love the quote that reads, “You are who you surround yourself with.” AND IT’S SO TRUE. We become the drive that drives our friends, the positivity that you choose to bring to the table, and just the overall growth to always think and be better. I love that. Being a contributor for Just Begin Magazine has taught me to time manage what I love to do-- write and story-tell. It has also given me the opportunity to express myself and be a part of a phenomenal community. While I may be a few states away currently, I love being a part of this magazine’s culture. I think that’s what ties it all together. While it may not be the end of the year just yet, there’s ways you can still manifest what you set your mind to do before the end of the year. It’s not too late!!! If you don’t set the goal for yourself, who will?! Take a piece of paper, or the notes section of your phone, or even tell someone what your next goal is. Take it day by day and keep yourself accountable. Live in the present, so you soak in all the fun and memories you create. That’s what will create growth in your life and those around you. Let’s do this together!!!

THE

SPIRITUAL

NATURE

OF

From 2012 to present, I have sustained two-trimalleolar fractures to my right ankle, a fracture to my right great toe, a fracture to my right fifth metatarsal, a fracture to my right rib, a crush injury to my left rib cage (six ribs for a total of 12 fractures), a fracture to my left femoral head, three fractures to my left fifth metacarpal and my nose. Upon reading my prior health history when I am seen for medical appointments, the physicians have asked me if I have bone density issues or any other health concerns. I have been tested for everything possible to reveal there is nothing physically deficient. My bone density is strong and there have not been any health concerns brought up through testing. My family physician has joked she would diagnose it with an “adventurous lifestyle” as the cause as I do skydive, I do own a sport bike, I enjoy ziplining, high ropes courses, running marathons, etc. Perhaps it is an adventurous lifestyle… and perhaps it is something more.

Is it ever a wonder some of us are incredibly prone to injuries or accidents? And others seem to navigate life unharmed? Pay attention! The spiritual world is sending you signs! I was one of those people who had never sustained an injury until 2012, when life decided to give me a wake-up call and since then, I have been learning, understanding, and embracing the spiritual meaning behind injuries to the body. The meaning behind the injuries I sustained have been so much bigger than I ever thought possible, and I do not regret anything that has happened. The road to self-actualization and higher purpose is incredible, can be treacherous, and very well earned. I hope my experience can help you navigate yours!

INJURIES

I have had a hard time understanding how I could go a very substantial portion of my life without injury and all the sudden, boom, one after another. It is almost comical with the orthopedic surgeon’s office who treats me for these injuries. We joke that I have a punch card with the various specialties. And while the comedy helps the situation at hand, there must be something more. I started to investigate a larger purpose into understanding the spiritual meaning behind injuries. Understanding the mind:body connection is imperative as we move through life. The body can be a great metaphor as we navigate our journey. Breaking down each of these injuries, I have been able to understand what is happening in my life to better understand how to heal, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. There is always a deeper meaning behind an injury. Taking the time to investigate the spiritual correlation can have revelations beyond our wildest dreams. The first injury, the right ankle trimalleolar fracture, June 2012. Ankles can represent our ability to change direction and go with the flow in life. I was playing in a tennis tournament for the United States Tennis Association. A simple misstep and my life started to change, drastically. The day before, my husband and I decided to call it quits, officially. Coincidence the very next day I fractured my right ankle in three places? I think not. A broken ankle can indicate a very deep emotional conflict about the ground you are standing upon. I had been unsure in my marriage for a bit and the ankle symbolizes resisting making a change. Interesting…

The next injury, the right fifth metatarsal, or a foot fracture, July 2014. The right foot symbolizes the past and how one is in the world. The marriage I mentioned in the above injury from 2012 did end in April of 2014. Understanding my new position in the world and who I was going to be moving forward seems to be a good representation of this injury. Healing occurred quickly as the body is fascinating and our story moves on. Welcome back trimalleolar fracture in December of 2016. There is no feeling like the “oh no, I have done this before” except this time, I went bigger and bolder, landing incorrectly on a trampoline at my daughter’s birthday party sustaining a compound trimalleolar fracture. The bonus, she and her friends were able to see the firefighters, the rig, the ambulance, and it was basically a two for one birthday. At this point of my life, I had ended a second marriage in May and had been considering what happened along that road. There were many directions I could have gone. I truly believe this fracture saved my life and changed the trajectory I was on so maybe there is something to the change of direction and flow in life. The following summer, I was chaperoning the daughter of a friend who was 13 and wanted to take a jet ski out on the lake. I volunteered to ride with her because why not and we crashed into a barely visible log. I will never forget looking for the daughter and getting her into the boat, not remembering what else happened that day.

One right rib was fractured, and I sustained a concussion. With the concussion, I was to limit screen time, so I started volunteering with an organization for children with disabilities. One of the women I was working with asked me if I understood what the universe was trying to tell me with this injury, and I began to explore. The right side symbolizes masculine energy and fracturing a right rib is about experiencing undervaluing feelings. What was going on in my life? I can tell you I had the worst boss I could ever imagine, and I hated my job. My boss was male, and I felt undervalued. Hello divine intervention. I left this job within six weeks of this injury and can tell you without a doubt, it was worth it. Later in 2017, while on a family vacation, I was running and stubbed my right great big toe on a log I did not see. It fractured my toe and wow did it hurt. Not the best way to spend day two of eight on a beach but nonetheless, there was symbolism behind this injury as well. The big toe represents spirituality and the big picture of one’s life. I had been making changes in my life and had not been feeling happy. I had been acting the way I should act versus the way that is true to my authentic self. Again, divine intervention for the win to give a great wake up call. A lot of our family stories can repeat if we do not choose to acknowledge and break the patterns. This was a huge one for me to do the work and change the story. In 2018, welcome to the hip and the nose. Not far apart from one another. The left hip fracture was in May of 2018, followed by the nose in August of 2018. While carrying a bouquet of flowers from my office to one of my team members, I ran into another colleague exiting his office.

I had flat shoes on (for the first time ever) and my shoe hit his steel toed boot with such force, it caused my hip to dislocate from my left hip socket and cause a femoral neck fracture. Only me… The hips represent our foundation! Hip problems can highlight the lack of free will and not having a purpose in life. Eeekk!! We were on the verge of making the Workers’ Recovery Unit a reality (foundation in 2017, debuted in 2018) and I was getting a lot of resistance from my organization, my peers, and skeptics in the industry. After this hip fracture, I realized I had to be my own cheerleader and understand my purpose was to drive this initiative forward in a much bigger way than I ever anticipated. My purpose in life is to make great things happen for people. The vision was set, and the fracture was the freedom I needed to understand not everyone will be with me on this, but it will be worth it. Do it my way… exercise free will. Get the buy in and go! And we have… the Workers’ Recovery Unit is still doing wonderfully today. Challenge accepted, left hip! The nose was shortly after, just months. The nose represents a problem with our environment. I was doing a solo skydive when I landed incorrectly and smashed into the ground. I am so thankful to only have sustained a nose fracture, but it was eye opening. I couple it with the hip because there was a lot of selfreflection going on within my soul as well as learning experiences right and left involving leadership. Was I the issue with my own environment? Time to self assess and figure out what was going on to start the healing process internally as well as externally and thus, I started to dive into my past, my upbringing and own who I am.

Recovering from the hip injury was tough. I ended up needing five procedures to correct the damage from the inside and the mental recovery was just as challenging if not more than the physical recovery. This is a huge reason I understand the psychosocial components of an injured workers’ journey. It is tough! The following year in February of 2019, I was able to run again. Woo!! I was running on a treadmill at my gym when I clipped my left hand on the guardrail of the treadmill. I thought I had simply dislocated my left fifth metacarpal… two weeks later, I found out it was fractured in three places. Oh, so that explained the clicking noise! At this point, I think we can all realize my pain threshold is a little higher than an average person, so I was taking ibuprofen and thought the hand would heal. Nope, surgery. The left hand symbolizes the female aspect of wisdom or emptiness. In my personal life, I had been in a relationship where it was not fulfilling, and the support was waning. I think I knew before this the relationship was not going to last in a romantic capacity but for some reason, I kept it going. It was a very surface and empty relationship. I was on a journey to change the world and my person did not feel that was necessary. The relationship continued for an additional nine months before finally ending. The body knew what was going on well before I chose to acknowledge it. During this time, I had my very first public speaking event and life was taking off. Hello female wisdom components, and the very first person who gave me a chance was a woman. The stars align! The worst of all of these injuries came in July of 2020. I think it is safe to say we all had events occur in 2020. My best friend died in February and my favorite leader of all time died in June. It had been an emotional roller coaster plus the pandemic was in full force.

I was out boating helping dock a boat when the driver put the boat in reverse accidentally and I was thrown onto the boat lift. HOLY PAIN. I have never experienced this kind of pain before let alone thinking if I could not figure out how to get out of the water, I was going to drown. After being rushed to the hospital to find out I had severely injured my ribs, this may have been the culmination to complete life changes. I did have to laugh during this time because even through the pain, my ribs protected my organs so well, they were untouched. How many of us will ever get the opportunity to have our ribs used for their intended purpose? I hope you never have to figure that out. The ribs symbolize family members. The left side represents the feminine. I am adopted and have never had a good relationship with my adopted mother. I also do not know my biological mother. I publicly discussed my adopted father being an alcoholic (we all have things), but I had yet to acknowledge the issues with my mother. To this day, I have never received the approval from my mother and this rib injury symbolized the freedom I so desperately needed to realize on my own. I was breaking free from the chains I had lived in thus far in my life. It was freedom. And it felt like it. Since, I have terminated any contact with my parents, and this has been the best thing I could ever do for me… and for MY daughter. Life has a funny way of getting us to be on the right track if we care to wake up and realize what is happening. I hope you explore the meaning behind injuries or ailments you have experienced to dive deep into your soul and your spirituality to see what the spiritual world is trying to tell you. It may just save your life, your soul, and help you discover your true purpose at the highest level. Start now. Just begin.

Black

Hair

in

Corporate America WRITTEN BY TIA PIERRE

Six years ago, after having my youngest son, I decided to wear my natural hair. I can vividly remember the moment it happened, which occurred after being home on maternity leave for over four months. I took a good look in the mirror and realized that I had neglected my hair care routines. There was no huge homecoming moment, where I decided to wear my natural hair. For those who may not understand this concept, people of color use the term natural hair to refer to hair growing from the scalp that has not been chemically processes or straightened in any way. Between diapers, terrible twos, breastfeeding and sleep deprivation, there was simply no time for beauty salon appointments. I was swept up by motherhood with two children under two years old, so I embraced the new look without thinking how it could impact my workplace interactions or career growth.

There is a long standing debate regarding black hair styles acceptance in the professional world due to societal norms. As my maternity leave was coming to an end, I quickly realized that I needed to find a better job to support my growing family. So as I interviewed, I consciously wore straight hair wigs to cover my natural hair because I feared that it would count against me. This fear comes from a common unspoken but learned rule amongst black women to “Straighten your hair for the interview and only wear your natural hairstyles once you have secured the job.” That is exactly what I did. Very quickly I started to receive biased and unsolicited comments regarding my hair at my workplace. I have been asked if I “just rolled out of bed” and even told I look like I’ve been “electrocuted”. Such comments echoed in mind when getting dressed and ready for conferences such as the Prima Institute or WCI conference where I would be engulfed in a room full of working professionals. If you were to google professional hair today on the internet, it is very unlikely to find braids, locs, twists, and knots depicted. This lack of representation coupled with the long standing discrimination of race-based hairstyles in the workplace and schools has started encouraged legal action. Hair discrimination is a very common occurrence. To that end, the CROWN Act was created in 2019 to ensure protection against discrimination based on race-based hairstyles by extending statutory protection to hair texture and protective styles. It is outrageous that in the year 2020, we need legislation to wear and style our hair the way it grows out of our scalps.

The media, societal norms and corporate America unfairly targets black hair by deeming it “unkempt”, “unprofessional” and/or “distracting”. Dove's CROWN Research Study, determined that Black women were 50% more likely to report being sent home or know of a Black woman who was sent home from the workplace because of their hair. Many feel compelled not to wear their hair in its natural state to fit in a corporate environment. In July of 2019, California was the first state to sign the Crown Act into law. Soon afterwards New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Colorado and finally Washington joined the effort. As of July 2020, the Crown Act was filed but did not pass in Florida. During a time where Diversity & Inclusion is a hot topic, it is likely that this legislation will resurface but we do not need a piece of paper to make us more accepting and conscious of others. Two cardinal rules to start: (1) DO NOT TOUCH BLACK PEOPLE’S HAIR without asking for permission. (2) Stop thinking and saying that any texture other than straight is dirty, unkempt, unprofessional or distracting. In other words, do not offer unsolicited comments about black hair, unless those comments are uplifting and encouraging. Reprogram yourself to understand and accept the fact that how someone chooses to wear their hair is not an indication or reflection of their skillset.

FOUR DAY COLORADO SPRINGS VACTION: WEEKEND GUIDE Are you planning a Colorado Springs vacation? We've got you covered with our Colorado Springs travel guide! Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, this Colorado Springs travel guide has the tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your four-day Colorado Springs vacation.

Written by Samantha Diaz Our first stop is Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. While Colorado Springs might not be home to the most well-known venues for concerts and entertainment, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre will leave you breathless. Nestled in a mountain range just outside of Colorado Springs, this outdoor amphitheater is one of few that can compare to its counterparts around the country. With an impressive view from the top of Bear Peak, Colorado Springs vacationers can enjoy hiking trails and concerts all in one day.

Next up is the Garden of the Gods! The Garden of the Gods has been a Colorado Springs landmark since its designation as a Colorado State Park in 1971. This iconic red rock park was created by prehistoric seas that covered Colorado millions of years ago. Colorado Springs visitors can hike, bike, and ride horses through the Garden of the Gods' vast open space or take a walk down one of two paved trails that wind throughout this Colorado Springs landmark. Our third stop is Manitou Cliff Dwellings! Manitou Cliff Dwellings' history has always been mysterious; however, scientists have discovered enough to know that Colorado Springs vacationers are in for a treat! These dwellings were built by the Pueblo people and date back to sometime between 1050 and 1250. Colorado Springs travelers will be able to walk through these cliff houses and learn about this ancient society's way of life. At the same time, Colorado State Parks hosts make sure you stay safe on your Colorado Springs vacation.

Another great stop is Pikes Peak! Colorado Springs tourists flock to Pikes Peak for many reasons. Colorado State Parks hosts an annual mountain race on the paved road up the summit, which requires a permit to participate; however, Colorado Springs visitors can hike or drive themselves! The Barr Trail is often called one of Colorado's most scenic hikes and provides some breathtaking views while Colorado Springs visitors hike to the summit. Colorado State Park hosts also offer a free shuttle service for those who don't want to walk back down the mountain, which means Colorado Springs travel is as easy as ever! If you're a hiking lover, then definitely check the Manitou Incline Hike off your Colorado Springs bucket list! Colorado State Park hosts have deemed this trail too tricky for most Colorado Springs vacationers, which means you'll get the chance to enjoy Colorado's beautiful scenery in peace. Colorado State Park hosts often take Colorado Springs visitors on tours of this mountain formed by volcanic activity over 31 million years ago. Be sure to check out the ancient petroglyphs located at Cheyanne Mountain!

Now for all the foodies out there, here is a list of our favorite restaurants/coffee shops!

Loyal Coffee: As Colorado Springs' first coffee roaster, Loyal Coffee is a Colorado Springs staple. They roast every batch of beans by hand and never use an automated process or conveyor belt to get the job done. Colorado State Park hosts love this local favorite because they have delicious vegan options in addition to their classic roasted coffees! Switchback Coffee Roasters: Colorado Springs vacationers will be able to enjoy Colorado's finest coffee at Switchback Coffee Roasters. This Colorado Springs local is perfect for those looking for a delectable cup of joe! Dos Santos: Colorado Springs locals love Dos Santos for their fantastic tapas and mojitos! I highly recommend trying the pork tacos, the guacamole, and their homemade sodas! COATI: Colorado Springs travel guide wouldn't be complete without Colorado's very own COATI. Locals and tourists love COATI because they serve as Colorado Springs' very own community gathering spot! Colorado Spring's locals come here to grab a bite, chat with their friends and neighbors, or enjoy an evening of art on the patio. Colorado Springs locals love Frozen Gold because they offer Colorado's finest ingredients in their ice cream. Locals recommend that Colorado Springs visitors come here for the cookie crumble flavor! Denver Biscuit Company: Colorado Springs locals love Colorado's Denver Biscuit Company for their delicious chicken and biscuits. Colorado Spring vacationers will not be disappointed with this Colorado staple! There are many activities to enjoy in Colorado Springs, but these are some of our favorite places you must visit while on your Colorado Springs vacation!

AUTUMN RITUAL

Collect fall leaves. Write an Autumn intention on each leaf then string together the leaves to make a wreath or garland.

Review your leaves come winter to see which ones came true. Give the ones that did back to the Earth. Burn that did not while saying a small request to aid you in your quest.

W I L L .

Meet Mari Diaz, they call her a woman of many hats because she has so many passions and never gives up on herself to make them come true. As the owner of OM Marketing and Certified Herbalist she is a very busy woman but in this interview, we got to chat with her to learn more about her and shares some advice to our readers.

Q: Can you tell us about your early career

Q: Who are some of your biggest

and how you got yourself established in

inspirations?

your industry?

A: I’ve been in the healthcare insurance industry for over 20 years. I got obsessed with holistic wellness after being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I saw how the doctor's first option was to give me a pill and move on ... I didn’t agree with it so I did my own research (I’ve always been a believer natural medicine). So, I went back to my roots and researched everything about my condition and how I can treat myself naturally. As I learned more, I wanted to share my knowledge and help others suffering and became aware of all the chemicals we put into our bodies not even knowing were hurting our health and how it affects our entire system. That is why I’m so passionate about creating this brand and awareness for women!

A: My family! I want to leave them a legacy everything I do is to give my family the freedom, time, and possibilities to dream big and never give up on their goals! There’s no limit to what they can achieve and most importantly what we can achieve together as a family. We’re unstoppable & anything you set your mind to do, you can do it. My motto is I CAN and I WILL.

Q: What do you see as some of your biggest accomplishments?

A: My kids, my marriage of 30 years, and having a successful 18 year business that is rapidly growing.

Q: How does a day in your life look like these days? Morning or Night routines?

A: My days are insane! However, I’m getting better these days. I’m making sure no matter how busy I am, I make time for myself and I do that by having a morning and night routine. Many have heard me talk about it in my workshops! Running three companies keeps me busy but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Q: What’s the most enjoyable or fulfilling part of what you do?

A: Helping women and sharing all the knowledge, I’m learning as I recently got my master herbalist certification. My passion is really helping women find themselves and seeing them put themselves first. I love hearing how I’ve made a difference in their lives. It makes me happy to know I helped someone.

Q: What would you tell someone who is interested in starting a business or pursuing a passion?

A: I would tell them it’s going to hard but it’s totally worth it . No matter how difficult it gets, do not give up! There’s going to be bad days but the most important thing is to never give up. Everyone has a purpose in this life and sometimes you won’t know until you fail a few times what your true purpose is.
