Women’s summary

Second Day of North Bay Tournament Again Dominated by Canada and U.S. North Bay, Ontario, CANADA. July 02, 2016 : Comfortable conditions greeted the players at the Molson Canor Sand Centre in North Bay, Ont. on Saturday. The rain of yesterday seemed have moved on and although breezy, it was much more favorable for athletes and fans alike.

The women’s event saw the Canadian and U.S. teams dominate again today. Guadeloupe’s Caroline Reb and Fanny Katarzynski were eliminated from advancement by the U.S. top seeded pair (McColloch and Reeves) here in North Bay. And the U.S. Virgin Islands was relegated by Canada’s Rachel Cockrell and Camille Saxton. Tournament top seeds Brandie Wilkerson and Julie Gordon made quick work on Trinidad and Tobago’s Dyette and Thomas this morning (21-13, 21-13) It will be an all-North America semi-finals on Sunday. As Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes face their U.S. teammates Alison McColloch and Kelly Reeves. The “Canadian” semi will see fan favorites Brandie Wilkerson and Julie Gordon, who were gold medalists on the circuit earlier this year, take on Megan Nagy and Marie Christine Lapointe.

North Bay is the only beach tour stop this year in Canada.

Men’s summary

Canada and the U.S. Shine as the Sun Comes Out in North Bay North Bay, Ontario, CANADA. July 02, 2016: El Salvador’s beach duo of Carlos Escobar and David Vargas could not break the United States’ and Canada’s domination of the NORECA North Bay Beach Tour event.

Also known as Tato and Pepe, the El Salvadorians fell to Canada two times today in North Bay. There were few other surprises today at the Canor Molson Beach Centre near the shores of Ontario’s Lake Nipissing except that the weather improved greatly over yesterday’s rainy conditions.

Top seeded Canadian team Mike Plantinga and Cam Wheelan appeared to breeze through today’s matches, but will face tougher competition tomorrow in countrymen Christian Redmann and Felipe Humana-Paredes. Redmann and Humana-Paredes provided the closest contest today when they went to three sets against James Battiston and Sergiy Grabovskyy, also of Canada. It was the last match of the day and both teams put on a show for the fans at the main court.

The other semi-final match up tomorrow will see USA vs USA as Miles Evans and Spencer McLachlin go up against Adam Roberts and Marty Lorenz.

The Canadian pair of Jake MacNeil and Chris Towe withdrew from the competition for a family emergency for one of the players.

All play wraps up on Sunday, July 03.

Canada and the U.S. Shine as the Sun Comes Out in North Bay North Bay, Ontario, CANADA. July 02, 2016: El Salvador’s beach duo of Carlos Escobar and David Vargas could not break the United States’ and Canada’s domination of the NORECA North Bay Beach Tour event.

Also known as Tato and Pepe, the El Salvadorians fell to Canada two times today in North Bay. There were few other surprises today at the Canor Molson Beach Centre near the shores of Ontario’s Lake Nipissing except that the weather improved greatly over yesterday’s rainy conditions.

Top seeded Canadian team Mike Plantinga and Cam Wheelan appeared to breeze through today’s matches, but will face tougher competition tomorrow in countrymen Christian Redmann and Felipe Humana-Paredes. Redmann and Humana-Paredes provided the closest contest today when they went to three sets against James Battiston and Sergiy Grabovskyy, also of Canada. It was the last match of the day and both teams put on a show for the fans at the main court.

The other semi-final match up tomorrow will see USA vs USA as Miles Evans and Spencer McLachlin go up against Adam Roberts and Marty Lorenz.

The Canadian pair of Jake MacNeil and Chris Towe withdrew from the competition for a family emergency for one of the players.
