MESSAGE FROM THE 2020 – 2021 PRESIDENT AND BOARD
The 2020 - 2021 Board of Directors, under the leadership of President Julie Rudolph, endeavored to evaluate the League’s impact throughout the year and carefully navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
management procedures to ensure the League remained a strong organization while ensuring the policies, bylaws and procedures serve our membership in the best way possible.
The Board recognized that it remained a difficult time for many, but the League never wavered in our mission to serve our community. The League was widely revered throughout Palm Beach County as having met the challenges of the pandemic while having excelled in providing humanitarian relief to those in need. This was accomplished while keeping the health and well being of our members and community top of mind.
The Board adjusted by-laws, member policies, board and
The Board unanimously agreed to waive the fundraising commitment for each JLPB member for the 2020 – 2021 League year and developed and updated a COVID-19 protocol. The Board also endeavored to celebrate the League’s 80th anniversary. The Junior League of the Palm Beaches headquarters was completely renovated by past President and Sustainer, Kathryn C. Vecellio. Jack Fhillips Designs assisted Mrs. Vecellio with her vision. In addition to all the beautiful changes, new state of the art technology was installed to assist in virtual meetings and events.
Based on the 2020 Vision to acknowledge the work the League is already doing and the impact it has already been making for years in our community, the Board researched and revealed a new IBCI (Issue Based Community Impact) for the Junior League of the Palm Beaches, which will help us guide our mission for the next several years. Both Food

Insecurity and Literacy and Education were extensively researched and presented to the membership.
Literacy and Education was selected and will be the League’s focus area to create long-lasting impact in the community by preventing the consequences of low literacy.

JLPB SERVES
With a focus on foster care and non-profit support, our members worked to create a lasting legacy and impact in Palm Beach County. Despite the physical restrictions of the pandemic, JLPB remained a positive force for good through the following signature community programs:
THE ALLIANCE FOR PERIOD SUPPLIES AT THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE PALM BEACHES
Through this program, JLPB obtains and distributes period supplies to various organizations in our community to give women in need access to essential period products required to participate fully in daily life. During the 2020-2021 League year, we distributed 80,242 period supplies, exceeding our goal to distribute 80,000 period supplies in celebration of our 80th anniversary. At the start of the League year, we partnered with Feeding South Florida to distribute period supplies during their weekly drive-through food distribution to help those impacted by COVID-19.

EYE AND EAR ALERT
Since 1968, more than one thousand children have participated in JLPB’s Eye & Ear Alert program, which provides free vision and hearing screenings to preschoolers and young children to detect possible concerns for effective correction. While screening events were limited during the 2020-2021 League year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were able to screen more than 100 children and remained in close contact with our partners to support the children’s success.
JLPB SERVES
MENTORSHIP
The JUNIOR M.I.N.T.S program was created in 2014 to provide educational and recreational activities to help young girls flourish, build self-esteem and make connections. Following a legacy of success, JLPB expanded this work through a newly established Mentorship Committee during the 2020-2021 League year. The Mentorship Committee laid the groundwork for programs with Lutheran Services Florida, Vita Nova and the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club to help build self-esteem and confidence in young people ages 12 to 22. The program provided adult interaction, taught life skills, instilled hope and empowered young adults in an effort to decrease the incidence of adult detention.

PROOF
Throughout the League year, the Mentorship committee met once a month with six homes of Lutheran Services Florida to engage in life skills and conversation and to spend time with the youth. They also coordinated a holiday drive with Safebound Logistics to donate Christmas trees and other holiday decor.
JLPB SERVES
CREATIVITY AND LITERACY
Creativity and Literacy was introduced as a new committee during the 2020-2021 League year focused on providing a comprehensive curriculum that promotes reading, comprehension, creativity and hands-on learning. The program works to provide children ages 3 and older with educational and recreational activities that allow them to flourish, build self-esteem and make connections. Our members held two holiday events at Quantum House, benefiting 20 children, and hosted one Easter arts-and-craft event at the Lord’s Place.
KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
Introduced as a new member project in 2013, Kids in the Kitchen was traditionally held as a one-day event focused on educating children and their families about nutrition and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. During the 2020-2021 League Year, JLPB reimagined Kids in the Kitchen as an ongoing initiative that provided educational cooking and exercise videos to Opportunity Early Childhood and cooking demonstrations to Nourishing Food for Thought at Jupiter Creamery throughout the year.
DAY OF IMPACT
To commemorate and celebrate 80 years of voluntarism, JLPB hosted a Day of Impact on February 20, 2021. The event included a full 8 hours of simultaneous volunteering with 10 community partners throughout Palm Beach County. Activities throughout the day included:

More than 150 volunteers

JLPB PROVIDES
JLPB’s Pink Palm program provided 295 care packages filled with necessities for expectant mothers and homeless men and women, as well as treats, games and books for foster children and children affected by the opioid crisis during the 20202021 League year.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION TASK FORCE
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force ensures that JLPB is fully devoted to emphasizing and commending the diverse group of women who make up our league and the community we serve. Among the many events and training opportunities hosted throughout the year, the task force donated 2,000 food items through a food drive hosted in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr . Diversity and Inclusion will become a formal committee for the 2021/2022 league year.

GRADUATING SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPCOMMUNITY ASSISTANCE GRANT

Each year, JLPB offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning to attend college. The funds are earmarked to help cover any student expenses. Recipients of the scholarship can receive up to $2,500 in funding.
Hudson Hale from West Palm Beach and Daniel Freidin of Boca Raton were both awarded JLPB scholarships. Hale will be attending Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and Freidin will be attending University of Central Florida in Orlando.

JLPB and its Community Advisory Council awarded two nonprofits each $2,500 through its annual Community Assistance Grant. The purpose of this grant is to identify and aid nonprofit agencies in Palm Beach County whose proposed funding would go toward one of the components of JLPB’s mission. The 2021 winning organizations were Vita Nova and Path to College.
Vita Nova provides a safe bridge to independence for former foster care and other homeless youth through supportive housing, education, employment and life skills training.
Path to College has taken on the mission of securing the acceptance of low-income, high-achieving students into top-tier universities.
