ADV EN TUR E H Q

This proposal envisions a sustainable eco-hotel nestled in the desert. Retaining walls constructed from rammed earth serve as thermal masses and are thoughtfully positioned to gently diffuse natural light into the interiors. The site strategy is designed to evoke the impression that the architecture is carved out of the natural landscape.

OPEN AIR SCHOOL

This project investigates the manipulation and fragmentation of a gable roof to create a design that blurs the boundary between interior and exterior spaces. The building's trellis framework dictates the fenestration and offers opportunities for shaded outdoor areas. This design is driven by the need for greater access to light and air, particularly in a school setting, in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

SECTION PERSPECTIVE

SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENCE

This renovation and addition to a historic residence in San Francisco aims to enhance the existing home by introducing a third story that includes a new kitchen and living area. Thoughtful material choices are employed to break up volumes and enhance visual appeal. Transoms are incorporated to maximize natural light and achieve generous floor-to-ceiling heights while maintaining respect for setbacks in a dense urban environment.

TH E UR BAN I N STITUT E

The Urban Institute seeks to revitalize the city block by creating vibrant spaces for gathering and art exhibitions. Murals are featured to showcase urban art, adding a dynamic layer of visual interest to the environment. A brise soleil façade is employed as a heat reduction strategy, while also offering users the ability to interact with the building through manually operable louvers. This design language is carried into the interior, where it is used to form operable interior partitions and create stair enclosures.

PLANS

GREEN RIBBON

Green Ribbon introduces a new typology focused on a central courtyard between a primary building and an auxiliary detached structure, designed to accommodate mixed-density living arrangements. The units offer flexibility, allowing for seamless combination or separation to suit different occupancy needs. Shallow balconies, lightwells, and skylights bring sunlight and fresh air into the interiors, creating bright and airy living spaces.

LAMP STUDY

This table lamp is designed to explore the interplay between light and materials. A slit in the primary form allows different materials to be placed at the top, enabling changes in the color, intensity, and shape of the light. This design explores how light interacts with unconventional materials, and how that can be used to illuminate a space in different ways.

LAMP STUDY

In this instance, the shade element of the lamp is 3D printed out of a translucent material, allowing light to filter through and softly illuminte the space.
