November 12, 2024 RE: LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR

To Whom It May Concern:

I am excited to recommend Julieta Alva, with whom we have had the pleasure of working closely for the past year and a half. I can confidently speak to her skill, dedication, and vibrant personality as an Intern Architect.

When Julieta joined our office, she was quickly assigned to help prepare a building permit set for a small commercial project. Despite her limited experience at the time, she approached the task with confidence, working independently and asking all the right questions. It was clear to us from the start that she was both resourceful and self-assured.

Soon after, Julieta showcased her artistic talents and strong rendering skills, helping establish what is now our office standard for all renderings. She quickly became the go-to person for anyone in need of renderings. During a slower week, she even took the initiative to update many of our past renderings to match the new style she helped define—a display of her independence, resourcefulness, and forward-thinking approach that we all appreciated.

Julieta’s strength lies in her ability to work seamlessly in a team environment, readily offering support within her skill set. She has contributed to a variety of projects, from single-family residences to multi-story, mixed-use housing, providing drawing support across all phases. Her work is consistently accurate and time efficient.

Beyond her professional skills, Julieta has become a friend to many in our office, with a wonderful sense of humor and kindness that brightens our workspace. I am confident that she would be a valuable team member for any office.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like further information about Julieta's skills and contributions during her time at Human Studio.

Sincerely,

Pete Atkinson

Hi there!

My experience is largely in architectural projects, all of which have allowed me to explore my drawing style and ultimately create beautiful graphics that embody my ideas.

Architectural Renders 01

As part of my work at Human Studio, I was responsible for developing and executing Render Visualization standards for the firm. We wanted to capture our projects in a style that represented our brand, which is focused on the human experience, with soft colours, with an emphasis on landscape and textures.

All Renders were made by me, using 3D modelling and rendering software combined with Photoshop.

THE FESTIVAL OF PUBLIC IMAGINATIONS

UBC Graduate Project

This is my final Graduating Project from my Masters of Architecture. Imagining a parallel system of unregulated occupation in Vancouver founded on collective action as a means to create public space that expresses human delights and desires.

I propose an annual festival where participants are encouraged to engage with the participatory building of public space by having free reign to alter, add, or remove parts of the city with no rules.

In order to determine the form public spaces should take, we must radically reinvent the design process to embrace measuring reality against ideals, and not the other way around. Starting with a little bit of chaos.

Participatory action was explored through building a scale model of the site in downtown Vancouver and encouraging people to interact with it by arranging and accumulating 300 3D printed chairs.

Studio Project for a community center in BC

Experimental Greenhouse 03

During my masters of Architecture at UBC, I experimented a lot with visualization techniques until I found my personal style. This project has some of my favourite illustrations and renders that showcases my ability as well as the design intent.

With a focus on sustainability, my partner Lanna FitzGerald and I created a community center enclosed within a Greenhouse, exploring how year-round crop production could sustain the community, as well as provide a hub for activities no matter the weather.

THE LUNCH RUSHacrylic on canvas

Fever Dream is a personal project. It is an ongoing series of fantastical scenes filled with iconography and easter eggs both from personal experience and from my imagination. The interplay of colour plays a key role in the storytelling - grounding known elements in reality while also pushing boundaries to embrace the whimsical nature of my characters.
