This is not a cocktail book.There are plenty of cocktail books out there and many of them are excellent. They cover everything needed to create a flawless new drink riff on a classic or craft advanced syrups with exotic complicated and thought-provoking flavors.But when I lied my way into my first bartending job in 2007 those high-end cocktails didn't take up nearly as much time as those books led me to believe. I would devour books about obscure liquors and complicated techniques then make 85 old-fashioneds a night all while encountering countless scenarios those fancy guides didn't cover.Simply knowing how to create beautiful cocktails does not a bartender make.So I wrote a book about all the other stuff. The things no one mentions in those polished cocktail guides. I shine a light on the grit the chaos the good and the bad and especially the people. Using my own experience and a good dose of humor I give people the real story about life behind the stick night after night and year after year.This is not a cocktail book. This is a bartending book.
