2021_Competition Outsider Magazine : rammed earth house_ Slovenia in collaboration with Richard Peragine

Our proposal revolves around one of the many oaks in the site and its spaces are organised to create a strong connection with the tree both visually and as the driving force to life within the house’s walls. The drawings we produced sketch out an indicative implementation design to assess the feasibility of the project, which, despite some more complex features such as the eastern elevation and the small staircase, is deemed to be suited to express the full potential of rammed earth.

The goal is to partially build underground both to reuse on-site earth and to create unexpected vistas on the surroundings, while keeping the maximum height within limits. A small mezzanine with a bed and a shower results in a more spacious day area. The staircase, also in rammed earth, is an ideal focal point around the oak, and its structure designed to be used partially for storage. T The facilities are located in the vertical volume, which at mezzanine and roof levels opens up to the surroundings and to the sky.

A little paved outdoor area with adobe benches is served by a gentle slope on the west of the building - where the view of the fields under the sunset offers an inspiring vision.

2018_Atelier Histoire Théorie et Critique_«Young architects in Belgium.

And me and me and me, ...»_ULB La Cambre Horta_Be In the fall of 2005, deSingel and VAi (Vlaams Architectuurinstituut) launched a new initiative with five exhibitions per year. With ‘35m3’ deSingel offered young architects a permanent platform. The title refers to the volume (283 x 408 x 303 cm) in which the recent production or paper vision of a new generation of architects was presented. The black monolith, completed inside in ‘white cube’, was placed in the corridors of deSingel and ‘dialogued’ with the mirror container that was in the library of ‘Curating the Library’. Both containers were designed by the artist Richard Venlet. Promising young architects have been challenged to creatively use the boundaries of this exhibition space. With the help of one or more achievements, an enunciation, a vision, a theoretical reflection or a question, an installation, ... they showed their motivations, their approach and their practice.

We propose to the students of Atelier HTC to respond (late) to this invitation from deSingel and VAi. It will be for students to invest the container by presenting four projects (a house between terraced houses, a house three facades, a house four facades and a project X) designed during this quadrimester. As mentioned above, these projects will be ideally nourished by the researches and works carried out by the students during the previous quadrimestres as well as by the «Spotlights» seminar organized simultaneously by the HTC Option.

Vincent Brunetta / Miguel Goncalves Pinto As a substitute for De Singel’s home, the container will theoretically be placed in the horta hall in Bozar. A place representing an extremely wide range of artistic and architectural practice, organizing exhibitions of international stature, it is an undisputed reference on the quality of events taking place in this building built in the 1920s by Victor Horta. It will soon be 100 years old, a true icon of culture in Belgium, where we are invited to think about how to present our reflections on architecture at the end of the university cycle.

The 35m3 is powered by three typologies of reference houses: - The two terraced house «Terraced house» by Tomas Nollet & Hilde Huyghe in Bruges - The three-storey house «House for Martina» by Henk De Smet and Paul Vermeulen in Wetteren - The four-sided house «Gausa House» by Xaveer De Geyter in Ghent.

While preserving the program, each typology will be the basis of a new reflection that will be the thread of the composition of the various projects. To this is added a project X which can take any form according to the direction taken on the three houses. For each project site, we have to make ordinary, commonplace constructions, of the order of the common place, often subject to strict planning rules generating then architectural elements that define the context.

From this present banality emerges a great repertoire of elements that compose it. It was interesting to note these elements in order to use them as the main design tools, which allowed me to appropriate the context by means of a stereotype.

This reinterpretation of the context through recurring elements that compose it, brings each house with a facade tinkered with any piece as a red thread exaggeration of a strong element of the program for each reference.

The garage for the three-storey house in Wetteren, the connection between the inside and the outside of the plot for the two-storey house and the roof for the four-storey house in Ghent.

From these envelopes the stage of project X is to see what happens on the interior space.

Unlike the outer space there is no constraint urbanistically speaking, this duality between exterior and interior then presented itself and participated in the creation of a completely different universe of the envelope. break with it. It was to account for the perception of space that was made from the outside.

This approach is animated by the curiosity of real situation in a near future as trainee architect.

Today’s young architects are more likely to be confronted with renovation, renovation and new construction programs.

These three houses, made up solely of collages of architectural elements from the context, are a critique of this redundancy of materials and the banality that surrounds them.

Thus we obtain an archetype, a probability that these houses could exist, a born stereotype that becomes a playground and testing, a real situation that could be mine in a few months ...

The glass roof, the colonnades, the staircase, the symmetry, the immaculate white, the composition of the Horta hall at the palace of Bozar knows how to dramatize the space. The position of the 35m3 comes to take advantage of this symmetry by placing itself across its axis on a part of the staircase.

In order to deal with the elements of the context, the first elements that appear to us when we enter the horta hall, will be reproduced in a new environment. Namely the column, the stairs and the canopy.

The position of the 35m3 is explained by the choice of elements of composition namely the staircase whose footprint will be projected inside it. The misalignment of the small container gives another dimension to this staircase as we know it. The integration of these three elements serves as a link to the reflection undertaken on the reuse of architectural elements, which define the context and show a common place, with which a certain freedom was taken both by the choice of tools to compose, only in their manipulations.

At the top of these steps will be the borchures. This replay of the context has two relationships.

First of all the continuity of the work done upstream on these three projects, especially through the DIY with what we find on the spot, the sort of these elements, until we notice a certain redundancy, which leads us to a stereotype.

And then learn to cope with, by detaching from everything, in a somewhat schizophrenic way as if everything had been there for a long time to create a new universe, a counter-foot to these elements.

2018_Competition DOCExDOCE 2nd édition : «Welcome to Shanghai»_Be in collaboration with Vianney Soulard

Shanghai, megalopolis of more than 24 million inhabitants neglected its relation to the human being by privileging its economic growth with the quality of life of its inhabitants. Indeed the presence of public spaces is rare in favor of urban spaces that suffocate city dwellers. In order to give them a second wind, we wanted to reduce these inequalities by establishing a balance between nature and the urban. In order to increase the quality of life of Shanghai residents we have acted on four criteria: history, landscape, health and culture.

The project is a plot of approximately 130 x 110 meters, located to the north of the Bund and just to the west from the iconic Pudong, exactly at the confluence of the Huangpu River and the historic Wusong Canal.

We found that nature has completely disappeared from the Shanghai landscape and we wanted to reintroduce it. The heart of the project is an anarchic reintegration of the local flora and landscape.

In order to manipulate this nature we have underlined it with a mineral ring ensuring the transition between the urban space and the public space. This ring contains open spaces that will protect the interior space from the outside and create within it more intimate spaces conducive to outdoor activities. Notably thanks to the meanders of the different rivers, inspired by the city of Shanghai.

2017_Atelier Art,Paysage et Architecture: «Program of the long of Metropolis»_ ULB La Cambre Horta_Be

Le Métropole, view from the pond.

The site of the Metropolis is in the town of Forest near the Wiels. This site was once a brewery owned by Wielsman Cuppens. In recent years the district of Wiels arouses a cultural craze including through groups of associations to revitalize the neighborhood. The Wiels building houses exhibition halls, a cafeteria and other events where the inhabitants of the district take part. It is in this impetus that the exercise of the workshop finds its place, and proposes a library like program of rehabilitation to the building of the Metropolis. The latter has become a prey of real estate developers who want to rebuild everything and therefore destroy the pond and the flora and fauna it houses.

This library project focused on an ideal, a utopia, a place where reading space, nature and the building itself could communicate without transition.

To do so, the project has its roots in the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges and his new Babel Library. He expresses his dream of the ideal library: a maze of hexagonal pieces, each side of which would be occupied by five shelves, classified books, listed, with a precise number of books, pages, etc .: «Each of the walls of each hexagon has five shelves; each shelf contains thirty-two books, all of the same size; each book has four hundred and ten pages; each page, forty lines, and each line, about eighty black characters.»

Each room is connected to each other like the alveolar system of a hive, a small spiral staircase to access the infinite floors. We have a glimpse of these, with an orthogonal opening in the center that allows the bodies tired of this ascent to sink. As well as two small booths to rest and satisfy their needs at the ends of the entrance to each room.

Seduced by the dreamy nature of the news, I decided to use this image of the library to design this project. Four hexagonal concrete silos are arranged in line adjacent to the Metropolis, for the reference to the past of brewers of the place. The walls and internal structure of the Metropolis are preserved. Each silo contains four floors of reading space. The view focuses on the interior of the building and its internal structure that is invaded by vegetation. In order to unify the structure of the project, the whole is circled on the four floors allowing at the same time the circulation and access to the library. The ground floor gives direct access to the pond, ensuring direct contact with nature.

The Metropolis made me aware of certain things about the gestures inflicted on the building. And gave birth to destructive impulses, fueled by the curisote, I wanted to see the organs of the building, get a «relationship of flesh» and not skin to contemplate his skeleton.

If I had to qualify my intentions, they would fit perfectly with those of the anatomist. There is no better solution than to dissect to understand how a living organism works and its evolution.

2017_Laboratorio di Product Design_ Ferrara Dipartimento di Architettura & Design_It The theme of this laboratory addresses the stone cut with high pressure water (water jet) by computer assistance. From this means of production we carried out a series of analyzes upstream on all the types of stones, their extraction, their advantages or their utilités.La phase design is an object of our choice (here a bedside table) taking into account the possibilities of creations with water jet technology.

This bedside table seems to be a monolith of excavated stone. It includes six spaces where you can store various objects that we may like to have available to us. The first «open» space above is used to naturally drop alarms, phones, etc. Crossing spaces, smaller on one side and larger on the other called «closed», are ideal for small objects or storage books, bottles or other. The whole thing is based on a rolling system that facilitates the movement of these marble cutouts.

2017_Stage_Laurent Sicard Architecte_ Logement social à Castelmaurou_Fr This design work done during my internship month in the city of Toulouse, explores the constraints related to social housing standards. The idea was to propose a generous architecture without the standards of social housing taking the lead on the quality of spaces. This is a house in Castelmaurou, near Toulouse which belongs to the town hall. The program is intended for a couple and a child.

Constrained by the local urban plan, the facade must keep the brick as material. The brick is then arranged to form a moucharabieh, allowing the penetration of light in the patio without encroaching on privacy. This patio allows to have all the glazed interior facade and thus bring a sensation of large spaces. It provides a small courtyard on the ground floor and a terrace for the master bedroom.

Octavia, in reference to the Invisible Cities in Italo Calvino’s novel, is a city suspended above the town of Imola in the region of Emilia Romagna a few kilometers from Bologna.

Octavia has left the ground to free itself from the secular oppression of buildings and roads in order to restore nature and develop freely in an almost unlimited dimension.

Urban sprawl removes the green spaces we need, both for the ecological and agroalimentary aspects. Rather than spreading, smart cities need to be densified, and Octavia is the result of thinking about minimizing the footprint and preserving nature.

The only contact with the ground are majestic towers with a facade structure that support and fuel the city energy, as well as key meeting places for its inhabitants such as cultural spaces, schools or libraries. They live in community, working together to ensure the livelihood and efficiency of the city. The entire land below, provide space for agriculture without removing the place of nature.

The most significant way to study the constitution of an «angle» has been to focus on the assembly of wood. For this, an atlas of references was necessary to analyze the many techniques and utilities of the different types of existing wood assemblies.

Initially through books, such as the collection of illustrations by Elias Guenoun «198 assemblages of wood, wood joints», which shows us a vertiginous collection of assemblies. He also tells us as he is being collected that he feels lost because the differences between each assembly family are often very small.

To go further, the analysis focused on the Japanese wood assembly because most of the techniques used come from Japan.

And more precisely in the Japanese habitat where each assembly had a specific place with a degree of complexity that varied according to the social category of owners. Complexity found in Kyiosi Seike’s book «The art of Japanese joinery».

From here, several images of references appear and the «Burgo Tower» in Porto de Souto de Moura, whose references of Japanese assemblages are numerous, allow us to define this project as a major reference of the research work carried out.

Having as a project basis the assembly of wood, the program was very timely.

Indeed, at the same time a competition was launched by the Cinquantenaire Museum in Brussels for the realization of a scenography for an exhibition of Japanese prints Ukiyo-e.

Comprising: an erotic collection, that of a collector, a tatami area to receive activities for visitors especially for children and a projection room.

Each of these elements of the program are characterized by a piece of their own called «incident».

This breaks the linearity of the circuit and fluidify it in a fun way, to surprise the visitor.

The project is a two-step process: The first step is the design of the scenography with pre-selected wood assemblies, as well as polycarbonate covers for the recall of rice paper used in Japanese habitat.

The second is the recovery of the structure used, with wood as roof and polycarbonate as cover, for the realization of a pavilion in the park Cinquantenaire.

The entire roof structure is made from the wood elements of the circuit and is based on the «incidental parts» of the scenography.
