Single Channel Pipettes vs Multi-Channel Pipettes Pipettes are basic tools that are very common and ever-present in laboratories. They are small specially calibrated transparent glass or plastic tubes used to hold a measured volume of liquid samples and transfer liquids from one container to another. This useful laboratory apparatus is a staple in research and industries such as chemistry, biology, and medicine. There are two similar types of pipettes – the Single Channel and the Multi-Channel.

Single Channel Pipette is a non-disposable instrument that usually has an air-displacement design that enables it to produce accurate measurement results with the use of one disposable tip. On the other hand, the technology and technique behind a Multi-Channel Pipette are similar to that of a Single Channel, except it takes more than one tip at a time. Multi-Channel Pipettes share many of the features of Single Channel Pipettes. Here are some of the features: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
