BUILDINGTOGETHER

LOOKING FORWARD TO GO BACK Last fall, representatives from all areas of our company participated in a three-day, Strategic Planning Retreat. The purpose of the retreat was to develop the “Painted Picture 2020.” In essence, it was a time to plan (and dream) for what our company would be like in three years. We went through a similar process back in 2010 and again in 2013 to develop our “Painted Pictures” for 2014 and 2017. These documents not only guide our annual business plans, but help drive our decisions and actions on a daily basis. During the Stakeholders Meeting on January 26, we will discuss more deeply the Painted Picture 2020. While the new Painted Picture is being finalized, it’s a good opportunity to take some time to talk about a few of the many things that didn’t even exist three years ago.

• “Mapping” Concept: Now, every employee and division has a plan of what they want to focus on and accomplish, both personally and professionally. These maps truly guide us. • National Footprint: GFS, Grifols and others have taken us from working mostly in West Michigan to a successful National Contractor. • Coldwater: An office in Coldwater, MI was not even a “sparkle in our eye” back in 2013, and soon it will open for business. • Experience Manager: In 2013, we talked a lot about new things we could do to make every interaction we have a positive, Unmistakably E & V Experience. We also realized that Mike Nova and others could not lead this quest alone. Thus, the birth of the Experience Manager.

• Alive365: Our industry-leading program to improve the dedication and effectiveness of safety programs in our region began in 2014.

Why is it important to review the past like this? As we dream about how far we can travel forward in the next three years, it’s helpful to look back and see just how far we’ve come. In other words, you don’t know how far you can go until you see how far you’ve come.

• Trade Contractor vs. Subcontractor: This shift in terms symbolizes the high regard we have for our partners. It also cost Tony a lot of money with frequent trips to the “Swear Box.”

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, January 26 at 3:00pm, at the annual Stakeholders Meeting to discuss our Painted Picture for 2020.
