TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING
MIKE NOVAKOSKI, CEO & PRESIDENT Elzinga & Volkers has had a profound impact on my life and countless others. It has left a positive, indelible mark on thousands of people we’ve all worked alongside, whether it be a fellow team member, a trade partner, supplier, architect or any one of our many clients. In my 30+ years, I have experienced many transformations in our industry. Having a front row seat to witness, and actively participate in, the unmistakable transformation our company has undergone in just the past ten years alone has brought me great joy. We have morphed into something very special indeed. No one else shares our unique journey, nor have they been able to duplicate our culture, our award worthiness and our highly talented, meaningfully connected workforce. As most of you know by now, we have chosen 2020 as our year to redirect how the world sees, feels and experiences EV. We are shifting focus from “who we were” to “who we’ve become”. The rebranding process we are undergoing in the coming months gives us the chance to reinforce (through stories, taglines, a refreshed logo, signage, uniforms, etc.) that we are noticeably different. As the old car commercial used to say, “This is not your grandfather’s Oldsmobile”. This rebranding is fueled by several “realities” of our business today.
First, we have grown substantively in many areas including team members, sales and business lines. Clients have pulled us out of our historical comfort zones. They love what we do and how we do it! We have significantly grown our self-perform abilities not just in numbers, but by also adding four new divisions that have exploded with opportunities to serve our clients. Our unique operational model and business platform led us to the writing of our book “Become Unmistakable – Start the Journey from Commodity to Oddity”. The book led to the creation of a separate consulting company, Become Unmistakable, LLC, that is helping companies across all industries develop leadership, culture and realize the need for meaningful employee connection and engagement! New leadership has also reinvigorated EV Group, our professional services company. Our company has grown and so has our recognition around the region, state and nation. Second, as we have branched out nationally, we have come to understand the need to be more clearly and simply recognizable. Our new name “EV Construction” is easy to spell, memorable and clearly states what we do. While we will always honor our founders’ surnames as the base of where we started, our new name reflects who we have become. Along with the name change, Continued on Page 2
