Happy New Year! We are starting 2020 off right by completing the Phase 4 renovations and turning the space back over to the staff and residents. The south wing resident rooms opened during the second week of January, and the first-floor dining area opened a week later. We are currently transitioning to Phase 5 of the renovation project that includes the central nurse’s stations, corridors, east wing kitchens and second floor dining. Our crews are working hard to install the temporary construction barriers that separate the corridors and occupied areas from our construction areas. These barriers will make the space look and operate a little differently, but they are necessary to keep everyone safe during the final phase of construction. We will continue to work our hardest to complete this phase as quickly as we can, so thanks again for bearing with us throughout this project.

Building Together | Construction Update Newsletter UMRC - Chelsea, MI - January, 2020 KRESGE RENOVATIONS | UP NEXT With the fifth and final phase upon us, the construction team has hit the ground running and is looking to close this project out strong. Temporary walls have been built on both floors and demolition has started. Just like the previous phases, we will start on the second floor, with the first floor following about a week behind. We look forward to finishing up this phase and the project!

The team spotlight for the month of January is on the carpenters from Elzinga & Volkers, Parker and Mark (pictured below). Parker and Mark both worked long hours for three weeks while building the temporary walls for Phase 5. These two did a great job of working within occupied space and adapting to any obstacles thrown their way. We look forward to working with Mark and Parker in the future.
