PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE
Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager
The construction team is on the final stretch to turning over another phase of the Kresge renovations. Over the course of the last month, the majority of the work has been focused on finishing rough-in’s for the new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire suppression systems. As I’m sure you are aware, we’ve had a handful of shutdowns requiring the construction team to drain particular systems within the existing building (fire suppression lines, plumbing lines, etc.) to complete a tie-in and then to re-energize the system. All of the rough-in inspections have been completed and the walls are now closed up. We are in the process of finishing, along with completing the hard lid and acoustical ceilings. With the heat and humidity that this summer has shared with us, one challenge the construction team has had to overcome is maintaining a cool and conditioned space in order to mitigate any excess moisture in the wall board and assist in drying the wall board joint compound. Since the mechanical systems will not be operational until the tail-end of this phase, we have had to supplement with large portable A/C and dehumidification units. As with the last phase, all the trade contractors have been working effectively and efficiently in the small footprint they are confined to. Stay tuned as we make our final push in August, with final turnover scheduled in the first half of September.
