PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE Welcome back to this month’s edition of Building Together!
Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager
Another phase has been completed for the construction team and we are moving full steam ahead. The north wing of the Kresge renovations wrapped up the last week of May with final state inspections and resident moves. We have now shifted to the west wing, making great progress thus far. Over the past month, the existing furniture has been cleaned out of the wing and the demolition trade contractor, Dobie Construction, has had full access to remove walls, ceilings and flooring in preparation for the new layout in the resident rooms and modern finishes. The first and second floor demo is complete and the new interior walls for the bathrooms have been constructed. A critical component during this phase of construction, called “rough-in”, includes the mechanical, electrical and plumbing trade contractors. Rough-in consists of these trades installing all of their conduits, pipes, wiring and ductwork in preparation for new wall board and ceilings to be installed, closing everything in. In order to complete this portion of work, we have had to undergo some noisy periods, which consisted of coring holes between the two floors and saw cutting concrete to allow for underground plumbing. Once all the rough-in inspections are complete, the interiors trade contractor, Acoustic Ceiling & Partition, can start hanging the new wall board.
