Focused on nurse and carer recruitment, staff well-being and retention

• The national shortage of nurses continued to present a challenge. However, extensive recruitment efforts brought our nursing shortfall down to 12.5 per cent.

• Created additional Nurse Associate training roles and ‘Return to Nursing’ roles to encourage qualified nurses back into the profession after a career break.

• Continued to monitor NHS pay negotiations and aimed to match pay rates to recruit skilled staff.

• Julia’s House ranked 2nd in Best Companies’ Top 100 Charities to work for, a nationwide comparative staff survey (previous year’s ranking: 12th), and achieved their ‘World Class’ employer standard for the first time.

• Identified and implemented improvements in awareness, policy and practice on gender and disability as part of the ongoing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion programme.

Maintained CQC Outstanding rating and vigilance in all areas

Following an inspection in September 2022 and January 2023, our Dorset hospice received a rarely awarded ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC.

This follows the ‘Outstanding’ rating of the Wiltshire Hospice in Dec 2021.
