Academic / ACSA Timber Competition project, Spring 2022
Location: Art Center MARTA Staiton, Atlanta, GA
Goal of the project is to embrace new structural and ecological possibilities of wood construction, and design a mid-rise, mixed-use complex that includes short stay housing, a large community facility, and an urban market. While the site incldues MARTA Station and whole green space around, allowed building boundaries were set to be right on top of the station and a parking lot.
Program
Circulation
Timber bridge spreaded throughout the entire site makes this project irreplaceable. The bridge connects all the programs on the site, provides a direct path from MARTA Station to High-Museum, functions as a trail or a bike path, and creates a one big circulation: center plaza, that leaves people with multiple options where they can move on.
In most of the cities, people walk through suffocated cities that are dense with high-rises and do not have a chance to walk above the ground level. The bridge, fifteen feet above ground level, brings unique experience to people in the city; walking through the trees and getting the views they could not get on ground level. This levitated bridge should also function as a breakzone for people who are sick of city life.
Second Floor
Fourth Floor
Since the timber bridge visually expanded all the way to floors in the buildings and the buildings have continuous timber roof structure, the project visualizes Mobius strip with timber.
Academic project,Fall 2022
Location: Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA
Goal of the project is to build an architecture major building including: studios, shops, lecture hall, library, classrooms, and faculty offices with expected occupancy of 100. The site is placed in between two main streets of Virginia Tech campus leading to downtown Blacksburg.
Because the site is surrounded by two main streets and two unpaved streets connecting main streets, I started designing the project by sketching grid lines on the site that could turn into direct accesses to the building. The two main streets, connecting downtown Blacksburg and Virginia Tech Campus, are expected to have lots of movement, making direct accesses more valuable for the project.
Creating one big open space for the studio was my main focus of designing architecture major buildings. Instead of having architecture studios divided in sections, an open studio in the center of the project brings more activity to the entire building and openness, which is critical for architecture major students who are expected to be spending most of their time in studio.
Bee Breeders Competition Project (SHORTLISTED), Summer 2022
Location: 20.40293S, 115.5689E

Theme of the project is, in response to the global silence surrounding the issue of nuclear weapons, creating a memorial in a decommissioned nuclear weapon testing site. We proposed the memorial at the nuclear testing site on the bay of Montebello Island, one of the British nuclear testing sites in Austrailia.
