The Source Expands the new Dignity Wellness Program thanks to two Substantial Grants

The Source provides services and Dignity Programs to meet the needs of the underserved homeless population in Indian River County, Florida. Our newly designed Dignity Welless Program will expand our mental health program, increasing accessibility to services and treatment options. The wellness program will include Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a nationally recognized program. After receiving MHFA training, our mental health director will equip staff to recognize the signs of distress in individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. The Source is the only organization in Indian River County providing mental health counseling with an emphasis on the homeless and underserved members of the community with no barriers to reentry.

Last year The Source provided over 150 individuals with mental health counseling; including placing two in sober living facilities, while 25 members were referred to community agencies for outpatient services, senior housing, and medication management. The Source anticipates an increase in members seeking mental health assistance during a difficult time of need. Sickness, lack of affordable housing, price increases for food and gasoline and or the loss of family are contributing factors. The wellness program will provide mental health and wellness services daily with its outreach, education and training of members, staff and our community.

The newest Program at The Source is called Community Works. It is designed to help the community’s public streets and properties become clean, while at the same time, allowing Source members to earn a paycheck, The Source has officially added Community Works to its roster of Dignity Job Opportunities.
