Volunteers are the heart and soul of our judo community. Their dedication, passion, and tireless efforts drive the growth of our sport across the country. Their commitment reflects the spirit of excellence, respect, and camaraderie that defines judo in Canada.
To this year’s award recipients—congratulations. Your perseverance, commitment, and remarkable achievements serve as an inspiration to us all. You remind us of what is possible when we pursue our goals with integrity and passion.
I would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to the members of our National Committees. Your behind-the-scenes work is vital to the success and advancement of judo in Canada. Your leadership continues to guide and inspire both current and future generations of athletes and volunteers.

Chris has been a tireless and dedicated volunteer at the Saskatchewan Open for many years. He devotes countless hours to the lead-up to the event, working closely with the registration team and taking the lead in organizing their efforts. He also manages the setting up of the event, ensuring that every technical detail is covered. Remarkably, chris provides all the laptops, printers, and cables needed for the event from his own personal supplies.
His behind-the-scenes efforts are a cornerstone of the tournament’s success. Simply put, the Saskatchewan Open would not be what it is today without chris’s unwavering commitment and generosity.

Miguel has been a dedicated volunteer and leader in Canadian judo for over two decades. He has supported major events in Manitoba as a bilingual announcer, including the 1999 and 2006 Canadian National Championships and the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. Since becoming a referee in 2001, he has officiated at numerous highlevel competitions, such as the IJF World Veterans Championships (2014–2016), the Canada Winter Games (2011, 2015, 2019), and several editions of the Canadian Nationals.
Currently serving as Treasurer on Judo Canada’s Board of Directors, Miguel brings not only financial acumen but also a steady and thoughtful approach to governance. His reliability, insight, and dedication make him an invaluable asset to the organization. His longstanding involvement and leadership have helped elevate the reputation and operations of Judo Canada.

Jennifer Parker is a lifelong judoka and 4th-degree black belt who began her journey in the sport in 1990. She is the founder and head sensei of Barracuda Judo Club in Pincher Creek, Alberta, where she has coached athletes of all ages since 2012. Jennifer holds a National Coaching Certification (NCCP Level 2 – community coach) and recently completed the IJF Academy Judo certification (2023–2024).
Her leadership within the sport includes serving as Vice President and Secretary of Judo Alberta, and she currently holds the position of Gender Equity Chair for the organization. She also regularly presents at referee clinics and judo development events and is known for her openness to advice and willingness to support others in the judo community.
Jennifer has officiated at major events across Canada and the PanAmerican region for many years, while also gaining experience in Europe. In preparation for her IJF-A international referee examination, she worked diligently organizing a study group, attending IJF referee seminars in Istanbul (2024) and Lima (2025), and actively refereeing at numerous tournaments. Her efforts culminated in success at the 2025 Cadet-Junior Panamerican and Oceania Championships, where she passed the IJF-A examination, advancing to the highest level of international officiating.
In recognition of her dedication and excellence in refereeing, Jennifer Parker is being honoured as Referee of the Year.

ALLAN SATTIN
PRESIDENTIAL RECOGNITION AWARD
THIS AWARD IS PRESENTED TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHO BEST EXEMPLIFIES LEADERSHIP, SERVICE TO OTHERS AND DEDICATION TO THE IDEALS AND PRINCIPLES OF JUDO IN CANADA AND THE JUDO COMMUNITY AT LARGE.
Allan Sattin has dedicated over 40 years to the development of judo in Alberta. Since 1971, he has held numerous leadership roles with Judo Alberta, including Provincial Coach, President, Secretary, Chair of the Grading and Referee Committees, and currently Chair of the Awards Committee. He has been instrumental in organizing major judo events in Alberta, including multiple national championships and clinics.
As President of this year’s Natioanls Local Organizing Committee, Allan played a leading role in hosting the Pan-American/Oceania Championships in September 2023 and continues this work with the organization of the 2024 Canadian Open National Judo Championships in Calgary.
His credentials include Rokudan (6th dan), NCCP Level 3 coaching certification, and IJF Continental “B” referee status. His contributions have been recognized with the Alberta Centennial Medal and appointments to the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC), where he later served as Chair. He was inducted into the Judo Canada Hall of Fame as a Builder in 2014 and named a Life Member of Judo Canada the same year. He currently chairs the Legal Committee of the Panamerican Judo Confederation.
Allan’s long-standing service continues to shape and strengthen judo at both the provincial and national levels.

Anne Barg is a dedicated and versatile professional with a longstanding commitment to both athletics and community service. With a passion for judo, Anne has competed locally, provincially, and nationally, making significant contributions to the sport. Her athletic journey also includes notable involvement in the Canada Summer and Winter Games. In 2017, Anne competed in the Summer Games in Kenora, ON, where she participated in rowing, while her Winter Games experience included competing in artistic swimming and judo.
In addition to her athletic pursuits, Anne has dedicated countless hours to volunteering for a variety of organizations, including Girl Guides, the Red Cross, and Heart & Stroke. Her commitment to giving back to the community is matched by her extensive experience in leadership roles.
Over the years, Anne has honed her skills in positions that required her to manage and lead projects, ensuring successful outcomes and fostering collaboration.
With a career that spans both the sports and hospitality industries, Anne has consistently demonstrated her ability to take charge, inspire others, and manage complex projects with precision and care. Her diverse skill set, combined with her passion for community involvement, makes her a strong leader and a valued member of every team she joins.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Involved in judo since 1975 as an athlete, coach, administrator, Executive Committee member, and referee, Michael Tamura obtained his IJF grade in 2016. He has made significant contributions to the sport at the local, national, and international levels. A dedicated member of the Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club since 1975, he was appointed Head Sensei and has played a key role in coaching and administration since the passing of Dr. Yoshio Senda (1999) and Mrs. Florence Senda (2019). His efforts helped bring the National Regional Training Centre to Lethbridge, fostering the development of young judokas who have achieved success in both national and international competitions.
In June 2021, Tamura was appointed Sport Director and Executive Committee member of the International Judo Federation (IJF), becoming one of only two Canadians ever to serve on the IJF Executive Committee. In 2022, he was named Technical Delegate for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Since 2015, he has served as General Secretary for the Pan American Judo Confederation and has been on its Executive Committee since 2013, overseeing 32 countries within the Pan American region.
As the longest-serving President of Judo Canada (2012–2024), Tamura played a key role in restructuring the organization, leading to several notable achievements. Under his leadership, Judo Canada hosted an IJF Grand Prix in Montreal, established the Canadian Judo Circuit with nationwide tournaments featuring sponsorships and live streaming, and expanded high-performance development with Regional Training Centres in Toronto and Lethbridge.
During his tenure, Judo Canada achieved unprecedented international success. In 2013, Canada won its first-ever world titles, securing two gold medals at the Cadet World Championships, as well as its first Junior World Champion title that same year. In total, Canadian judokas earned five medals at the Junior World Championships and four at the Cadet World Championships.
At the senior level, Judo Canada won 14 World Championship medals, including three world titles—the first in Canadian history and the firstever world medal by a female Canadian judoka. Additionally, the team secured three Olympic medals, including Canada’s first Olympic gold in judo (2024). The 2021 Tokyo Olympics marked another milestone, as Judo Canada won two Olympic medals for the first time in its history, including the first Olympic medal by a female Canadian judoka.
Judo Canada also celebrated a groundbreaking achievement in parajudo, with the first female para-judo athlete winning both a World Championship medal and a Paralympic medal, further solidifying the country's position as a leader in judo on the global stage.
Through decades of dedication and leadership, Michael Tamura has played an integral role in shaping judo in Canada and internationally, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.

Les Jeux olympiques de Tokyo en 2021 ont marqué un autre jalon, avec deux médailles olympiques remportées pour la première fois dans l’histoire du pays, dont la première médaille olympique par une judoka canadienne.
Judo Canada a également célébré une réalisation historique en para-judo, avec la première athlète féminine canadienne remportant à la fois une médaille aux Championnats du monde et une médaille paralympique, consolidant davantage la position du pays comme leader mondial en judo.
