Jubilee Park 2022 Annual Report

JUBILEE PARK & COMMUNITY CENTER

TheJubilee Park community was once a robust, working class neighborhood. Then, a major highway was built through its heart, and a nearby factory closed its doors. For years, residents struggled to create a better future for their neighborhood.

But in 1997, a new opportunity rekindled the hopeful spirit of this resilient community. A group of volunteers from Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church united with their

Jubilee neighbors around a shared mission: to be a catalyst for comprehensive community revitalization and enrichment in Southeast Dallas.

In 2022, Jubilee celebrated 25 years of changemaking. Originally serving primarily as a space for children to go after school, today Jubilee is a refuge where neighbors have the support they need to dream big dreams and the resources to achieve them.

Since 1997

Walking around Jubilee’s sprawling campus, Diana is stunned. When she attended Jubilee as a young teen nearly 25 years ago, programming was housed in two small homes. Raised by a single father who worked overtime to provide for his children, Diana relied on Jubilee. “They say it takes a village, and Jubilee was my village.” Today, Jubilee has grown to include a community center, a 3-acre park, two Head Start schools, a food pantry, a clinic, senior housing, and a Dallas Police Department substation. One original Habitat for Humanity house still stands and hosts Jubilee’s Teen Program. “This was our safe place. We called it the ‘little casita.’”

Now a successful branch manager at a local bank, Diana is giving back to her community and to the place that once meant everything to her. “One thing that people get wrong is that no one from my neighborhood will be [anything]—that’s not true. Change is possible, and it’s already happening.”

A MODEL FOR COMMUNITY CARE

In 2022, thanks to The Addy Foundation and our incredible donors and partners, we opened the Jubilee Park Community Clinic to help ensure access to affordable, quality healthcare for residents of Southeast Dallas. This groundbreaking partnership draws on Parkland’s healthcare services, mental health counseling from Jewish Family Service, and crucial, wraparound programming offered by Jubilee to address the full spectrum of health determinants.

LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO A LETTER &

Last year, Jubilee celebrated 25 years of changemaking in Southeast Dallas. Throughout the course of our short history, remarkable change has ocurred; the Jubilee of today is a refuge, a place where families can gain access to the resources they deserve and need... and where a sense of hope pervails. Jubilee’s impact in this resilient community has been remarkable, and that transformational work is far from over.

In our next 25 years, we will build a future where our children are soaring both inside and outside of the classroom, where families are making not just a living wage, but a thriving wage, and where seniors live not only healthy lives, but lives well-lived.

The path to get there will not be without its

obstacles—growing threats of gentrification, underinvestment in the Southern sector, and a persistent lack of infrastructure. But with the growth of programming across all of our Pillars of Impact and the addition of vital infrastructure like the Jubilee Park Food Pantry and the Jubilee Park Community Clinic, we are poised to make a deeper impact than ever before.

Jubilee is at an inflection point in its history, and thanks to your incredible generosity, I am confident that we will rise to meet this moment.

Yours in service,

Yours in service,

Since 1997, Jubilee has walked with our neighbors as we strive together toward a brighter future for this resilient neighborhood. After twenty-five years, we are carrying on this tradition by standing with and hearing our neighbors, ensuring that they have the resources they need to thrive.

Last year, our Jubilee Family came together for an incredible fundraising year to achieve $3.3 million in revenue in addition to surpassing our capital campaign goal of $7.8 million. That overwhelming support helped us accomplish the impossible; in less than two years, and in the face of economic tumult, material shortages, and a global pandemic, we opened Jubilee Park Community Clinic: a bestin-class solution to combatitng health inequity in Southeast Dallas.

EDUCATION

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

DID YOU KNOW?

Personal choice—like what you eat and how much you exercise—only accounts for 30% of your health outcomes.

Where you work, what your neighborhood looks like, and even whether you feel like you belong in your community are factors that all impact your health. The CDC has identified five main Social Determinants of Health that mirror Jubilee’s Five Pillars of Impact: Education, Opportunity, Housing/Workforce, Health, and Safety.
