Prepared schematic architectural design concepts, design development documents, construction documents, and detail drawings for numerous residential new construction, apaptive re-use and renovation projects while considering factors such as budgets, schedule, and building codes/standards.
Coordinated with engineers, contractors, and other consultants to ensure that project requirements were met and that the design was carried out successfully.
Supported the review and response to architectural RFIs and submittals, collaborating with engineering comments, and addressing inquiries from general contractors.

The client is a non-profit organization that aims to revamp and refurbish a 147-year-old brick building to create a cooperative cafe and community area. The aim is to establish a practical arrangement for the grocery store and cafe. As part of my responsibilities, I designed renderings of the cafe for promotional purposes and generated floor plans based on discussions with the client and Principal Architect.

The client is seeking to tear down and construct a two-story energy-efficient home in place of their summer residence situated on Lake Erie. As a part of the backyard area falls within a natural protected feature area, the foundation of the rear porch needs to be preserved. To ensure compliance with the regulations and restrictions, I organized meetings with the New York DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation). Working closely with the principal architect and project architect, I explored options for renovating and reconstructing the house in accordance with the applicable codes and guidelines. I collaborated with another designer to complete the construction documents for permit.

The Sheffer Farms townhouse development comprises several farmhouse-style town homes, each boasting three bedrooms, a master bedroom, and a finished basement.
On the front of the home, there are two impressive entrances created by the sweeping roof line over the archway and porch. The first floor plan boasts a magnificent entrance that leads to a long hallway, which then leads to the 1.5 height living room and open concept kitchen and keeping room. Adjacent to the living room is the in-law suite, which has its own bathroom and walk-in closet. Meanwhile, the master suite is located on the opposite end of the home, providing privacy for both suites. Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, each with a bathroom located nearby. Additionally, there is a family room and an office with double doors and windows, providing flexibility for caretakers to attend to their duties from either space.

Exterior Render
I collaborated with the project architect in designing a modern farmhouse-style town home for two families within a 2,000 sq ft space, complete with 3 bedrooms on the second floor, a master bedroom on the first floor, and a grand two-story foyer entrance. I contributed to the design development process, produced 3D renders to aid the client’s visualization, and created details and building sections for contract drawings and permit.

Drawing inspiration from tectonic examples such as the traditional corset, there are certain features of the human skin that can be adapted into a similar system, incorporating its stiff, pliable, and floating components. By adapting these characteristics into a prototype skin, it becomes possible to generate cavity spaces that can be customized with openings to improve airflow and provide varying degrees of shade. To simulate the effects of sun exposure, the cavities can be filled with cotton balls, highlighting their potential applications. This approach challenges the concept of relying solely on rigid systems by employing a combination of flexible systems to achieve stability. The resulting tectonic framework is then applied to a skin system that accommodates a hothouse and foundry on the outskirts of Buffalo.

Precedent
Although each of these materials are individually flexible, the curtain, the stitching, and the cotton can create rigidity when they are combined. The integration of these elements results in a system that comprises both rigid and floating elements, allowing for experimentation with different types of stitching and how they interact with each other.
Pre-existing Structure
By drawing on tectonic languages from couture, two skin prototypes were developed and integrated into the skin system of the program. The programmatic ecosystem features a foundry and hothouse located in close proximity, with the latter relying on the heat generated by the former. While hothouses are typically heated using artificial sources, this arrangement allows for the cultivation of tropical plants in temperate climates.
