BACKGROUND - I was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. I came to Melbourne, about three and a half years ago to study architecture. I hold dual citizenship due to my Spanish/Australian father. This unique status allows me to embrace both my Spanish heritage and Australian identity, forging a diverse and culturally enriched background that continues to shape my experiences and perspectives in Melbourne.

Project: Corroboree Centre In my second year at Swinburne University, I undertook an ambitious architectural project that involved the design of a Corroboree Centre located adjacent to our university campus. The primary objective of this project was to create a culturally rich and versatile space that could accommodate various indigenous events, gatherings, and educational activities while fostering a strong connection between the university community and local indigenous groups.

I conducted a comprehensive site analysis, identified specific room requirements based on the needs of different events and activities and developed preliminary design concepts.

I finalised the required architectural plans, including floor plans, elevations, and section. 3D renders were produced to visualize the final design from various perspectives, both interior and exterior, helping convey the project's aesthetics and functionality.

During the course of this project, I employed Rhino software for the creation of architectural plans and Enscape for generating 3D renders. While these software tools offered powerful capabilities for architectural design and visualization, it's important to note that this project represented one of my initial forays into utilizing such sophisticated architecture software.

Consequently, the work produced using Rhino and Enscape, while promising and conceptually sound, may not have reached the level of professionalism that more experienced users might achieve. This experience served as a valuable learning opportunity, allowing me to gain familiarity with these software tools and develop the essential skills required for future projects, where I aim to harness their full potential for creating architecturally stunning and visually compelling designs.

Project: Home of Docklands In the first semester of my final year at Swinburne University, I had the privilege of working on a transformative architectural project: the redesign of a section of the Docklands Pier. This endeavour was not only an opportunity to demonstrate my skills and knowledge but also a collaborative effort that required extensive teamwork, innovation, and perseverance. Over the course of the semester, my group and I embarked on a journey that began with form finding experimentation and culminated in a meticulously crafted design proposal, integrating plans, 3D renders, diagrams, and physical models for presentation.

Project: Newport Museum of Connection

In my final studio of my bachelor's degree in architecture I had the opportunity to embark on a challenging and creative endeavour: the design of a museum in Newport, situated adjacent to the train station. It's important to note that this project was conceived as a design exercise rather than a professional endeavour.

As such, the design was intentionally unconventional and pushed the boundaries of architectural norms. This allowed for experimentation with bold forms, imaginative spaces, and unconventional materials, freeing me from the constraints of traditional architectural practice and enabling creative exploration.

My journey began with a thorough site analysis. I visited the Newport site to gather essential information, taking photographs, recording sounds, capturing videos, and meticulously measuring the area. This immersive approach allowed me to immerse myself in the site's context, gaining a deep understanding of its physical characteristics and the dynamics of the surrounding environment.

The heart of this project was a rigorous mass design process. I started with a blank canvas and began to carve my way toward the final design.

Experimentation was key, as I explored various spatial configurations, volumes, and circulation patterns. This phase involved numerous iterations, model studies, and sketches as I sought to create a museum that not only responded to the site but also engaged with the cultural and historical context of Newport.

Diagrams played a pivotal role in articulating the design process. I used diagrams as a means of communication, helping me to convey the evolution of ideas, the relationship between spaces, and the project's narrative. Diagrams visually represented how the design responded to site conditions, circulation, daylight, and other key factors, allowing me to communicate the underlying design principles effectively.

To translate my conceptual ideas into tangible architectural elements, I relied on a suite of digital design tools.

Rhino served as the primary platform for creating the museum's floor plans, elevations, sections, and site plans. I used Photoshop to enhance and r e fi n e v i s u a l r e p r e s e n t a t i o n s , incorporating textures, colours, and atmospheres that reinforced the design concept.

Project: Swinburne BA Building

In my first semester of the Master's program in Architecture and Urban Design at Swinburne University, I embarked on an enriching and comprehensive project that combined historical preservation, sustainable design, and advanced digital modelling techniques. The task was to model an existing building on campus using Revit and subsequently select a small corner of the structure for redesign. Throughout the project, I aimed to adhere to the Australian standard for architectural detailing, focusing on sustainability, while also honing my proficiency with Revit, which has since become my preferred software for architectural work.

The project began with the meticulous modelling of an existing campus building using Revit. This phase involved not only accurately reproducing the physical structure but also understanding the building's historical context, materials, and architectural details. In-depth site analysis and documentation enabled a holistic understanding of the structure's strengths and weaknesses.

Once the existing building was faithfully represented in Revit, I turned my attention to the redesign phase. Sustainability was a primary focus, and careful consideration was given to selecting environmentally responsible materials, energy-efficient systems, and sustainable construction methods.

Throughout this project, my proficiency with Revit significantly improved. The software's capabilities for modelling, documenting, and simulating architectural designs became increasingly evident. As a result, Revit transitioned from a learning tool to my go-to software for architectural projects. This newfound comfort with Revit has since empowered me in subsequent design endeavours, enabling more efficient and accurate work.

In conclusion, the Campus Building Redesign project in my first semester of the Master's program was a pivotal experience in my architectural education. It combined the disciplines of historical preservation, sustainable design, adherence to architectural standards, and advanced digital modeling.

Beyond the immediate project outcomes, it marked a significant milestone in my journey as an architect, equipping me with valuable skills, knowledge, and a newfound proficiency in Revit that continues to shape my approach to architectural and urban design.
