To whom it may concern,
To whom it may concern,
Juan Granero was tutored by me in “Architectural Design 5”, a core subject in the bachelor of Architectural design at the Technical Superior School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). The course took place in Semester 2, February to May 2017 and focused on the “City of Madrid as an Archipelago”.
Juan Granero presented well thought and precise design concepts fully linked to the context as far as redefinition of the existing is concerned. Moreover, he showed strong skills in conveying his ideas through designs and verbal presentations. I awarded Juan Granero a High Distinction for his project, the highest mark given at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. His hard-working attitude and ambition will undoubtedly lead him to realize his aspirations if given the opportunity.
In conclusion, I have no hesitation in recommending Juan Granero to you and I believe he will contribute positively. Should you require any further information, contact me at tunon@emiliotunon.com
Sincerely,
I am pleased to write this reference at the request of Juan Granero I have known Juan for two years in my capacity as a professor at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (ETSAM). Juan attended my class of Architectural Design 3 and earned superior grades in the subject. Based on Juan's results and class participation, I would rate his academic performance in my class as very good.
On a personal level, I have advised his reflection about future studies, which gave me proof of his interest in studying abroad in order to complete his education in a holistic way. His hard-working attitude and eagerness to learn are the right ones to successfully complete his next academic and professional phase.
In conclusion, I would undoubtedly recommend Juan Granero for this position and I am certain he will give evidence of his higher skills . Should you require any further references on the above matter, feel free to contact me at estudio@campobaeza.com

Opportunity to reconsider the relationship between Canada’s most important national symbol of democracy and its people. The project is born from a dual urban condition: Sparks St. the commercial spine of Ottawa and Wellington St. tied to the functions of government, reflected in its monumental architecture. Town and Crown. The North elevation ensures the dignity, and the stone volumes are crowned with a forest, giving back to nature what was once stolen.

Société du Grand Paris +30m of depth
With a length of approximately 75 km, line 15 is made up of the busiest sections of the orange and red lines, which serve the regional employment centres of La Défense, Plaine Saint Denis and Val de Fontenay, as well as the densely populated areas of the inner suburbs.
The project by Renzo Piano Building Workshop is an ellipse, an optimal scheme in terms of the volume/surface/impact retention ratio. The project seeks to create a strong, identifiable, intuitive space with a central well that receives natural zenithal light. A sober architecture that leaves free expression to the structure, the flows and the spaces.

Coordinated complex visualization production leading to up to 25% shorter timelines with no accuracy loss.
Architectural & structural design of the emergence
Production of presentation drawings for the final phase.
OASIS IN “LA MANCHA”
INHABITING THE DESERT OF CALATRAVA
Fernán Caballero, Ciudad Real, Spain Jun 2021 Master Thesis 9/10 Prof. Juan HerrerosA collection of particular facts in perpetual change, free pieces that have value for their different scale, materiality and orientation, whose associations generate new places. Collisions between autonomous figures articulate public gardens renaturalising the arid landscape.
The project is constituted as an intergenerational neighbourhood where the program overcomes stereotypical forms of inhabiting. The boundary, as a space of juncture between two realities, becomes fundamental. The large size but similar scale to the village blocks, gives way to uncertainty, to a non-determinism capable of engineering the impossible.

These pieces arise from my parasitic attitude towards my predecessors.

Housing development that respects a century-old garden. The aim is to maintain the identity of the project that Arturo Soria conceived in the 19th century: a linear garden-city.

The project responds to strict urban and environmental restrictions (protection of native species, heights, setbacks, etc.).
It combines an urban image on the outside with a human scale on the inside, in a deep relationship with nature for a sustainability commitment.
Creation of conceptual diagrams and production of presentation drawings and 3D- modelling.
Technical detail drawings and layout distribution.
GMOs RESEARCH CENTER
LAB, CLASSROOM, RESIDENCE...
Casa de Campo, Madrid, Spain Dec 2019
Prof. Jesus Aparicio
Academic 9.5/10 with Honors
Biotechnology is nowadays the most viable way to feed the growing population, by increasing yields to get more food from less land. GMOs mean cheaper, more pesticide and plague resistant crops and more plentiful food to fight hunger in the Third World. Opposing the opacity of the enterprises that hold patents on certain crops is compatible with the imperative need to support GMOs as a product of the finest engineering.
This Investigation Centre for GMO’s tries to propose a third way to the production of GMO’s, a place in between the anachronistic 19th century Botanical Garden and a present food production industry. The centre is defined by the tension generated in between to elements: a continuous 180x180m high-performance roof and an adjustable topography.

OPENGAP: A HOUSE FOR...
Spain
October 2019
In collaboration with: R. Varajao
1st Prize in International Competition
The Eternal Villa is born from the opposition of two interrelated concepts: History and Architecture. There is no more intrinsic relationship than that of the passage of time and the manipulation of space. However, the meaning of history, as we know it today, is due to one man: Herodotus. This house is for him, the father of history.
Here the History of Architecture is compiled and expressed through a contemporary reinterpretation of itself, where each space serves a function and each function is represented by a specific architectural style, resulting in a volumetrically diverse complex that evidences the passage of time, without losing harmony as a whole.

DEATH LANDSCAPES
CEMETERY - CREMATORIUM - ...
The exercise follows Rem’s discourse of facing, from an architectural perspective, the tensions, inequalities and perversion of memory circling the so-called rural territory. The project follows the allegorical logic of a dying countryside, taking it to the extreme.

The project implies a poetic response to the decreasingly perceived (but inexorable) question of death in a contemporary diverse society. A series of structures are designed responding directly to their surrounding landscapes. An itinerary of death.

QATAR EMBASSY & CONSULATE
EMBASSY, CONSULATE & MULTI-PURPOSE PAVILION

Rome, Italy
July 2018
AUT - AUT ARCHITETTURA
Restricted Competition Finalist
Escaping from contemporary extravagant solutions in the Middle East fruit of an unreasonable sense of luxury, the project tries to take past Islamic elegance (Alhambra) as a model. In a plot with a considerable slope, the consulate is designed to remain “buried”, thus creating the possibility of two separate access. With a reinterpretation of a traditional square (presence of water as mirrors, latticework, vegetation and a perimetral portico) the building seeks to acquire the image of “public representation” with soft elegance and a controlled opulence.

Conducted extensive research on traditional qatari architecture and possible references.
Creation of conceptual diagrams and production of presentation drawings and 3D- modelling.
Production and post-production of final renderings.
MNEMOSYNE MUSEUM
Young Architects Competition
Capo d’Orso, Sardinia, Italy

In collaboration with:
M.Benignetti, P. Susini, G. WeberInternational Competition
Why do nations go to war?
How do we face a military museum? How do we play tastefully with the nuances between patriotism and nationalism, between fission and fusion, between self-protection and killing?
Deeply influenced by the conditions of Capo d’Orso, we conceive the museums as an alternation of open and closed spaces and sensations that configure a “war promenade”. The resolution of the museum is given by the manipulation of two main parameters: flexible containers able to adapt to the different requirements of the project and rigid columns, as a representation of the souls lost in the power gamble of military conflicts.

RESIDENZIALE
ALESSANDRINO
92 UNITS OF 100m2, 75m2, 50m2 & 25m2
Quartiere Alessandrino, Roma, Italy May 2018
Prof. Luigi Franciosini
Academic 29/30
In collaboration with Andrea Ayra & Marcel AloyThe project acts as an urban tissue between the linearity of the aqueduct, the grid of the pre-existing nearby low-density dwellings and the non-definition of the Park Giovanni Palatucci. The integration of the park, respect of the historic urban grid and the definition of a proper front for the public square are the guidelines of the macro scale.

The dwellings are arranged spatially creating a complex game of interior living spaces connected to external semi-public spaces complementary to terraces and loggias, that provide the different accommodations with characteristic spatial quality and, at the same time, generate the urban image of the complex and enhances the collective life among neighbours.

PANOPTIC Young Architects Competition

In collaboration with:
M. Chueca, J. Jaen, I. Barbeito & R. VarajaoFavignana, Trapani, Italia March 2018 International Competition
The aim of the Art Prison competition is to give the fortress of Favignana (former prison) back to its inhabitants by its transformation into a contemporary art platform. Given its privileged position and its iconic importance, a position of radical respect is adopted, leaving the existing building untouched but enhanced by a ring-podium that enables experiencing the prison from points never possible before.
The circle has divine relations, represents eternity, having nor start nor end. On the other hand the panoptic represents structure with a 360 views relations.

CONCILIATION OF OPPOSITES
Rethinking the “Edificio España”

Plaza de España, Madrid, Spain May 2017
Prof.Emilio Tuñon Academic 10/10 with Honors
The abandoned Edificio España is an study case of disperse interventions that will shape the future of Madrid. Revitalize the aged center district with affordable dwellings for young people, social and cultural equipment, as well as luxury apartments on top. Opposing the logic of demolition with urban recycling. The debate resides in how much should the patrimonial remain frozen or adapt to a contemporary reality.
Different scales from the macro breaking the buildings condition of urban barrier and responding to the upcoming rehabilitation of “Plaza de España”, to the intermediate scale of common spaces and human landscape where the social and the domestic spheres melt.
