Easter Eggs Well, it’s spring and that means Easter is here! So I wanted to take this chance to enlighten those who have never heard of an Easter Egg. These little gems are hidden everywhere, you just have to be aware enough to spot them. Sometimes the Easter Egg is a funny character moment, other times just a bit of absurdity, and occasionally there are even a few mind-bending plot secrets. But they all have something in common: they’re really hard to find. So I wanted to pass on some classic techy Easter Eggs that you can go and try right now for yourself. No really...try it!

Find Some

TECHNEWS

Accessing Android’s Easter Eggs To access the Easter egg in your version of Android, open the Settings screen and tap About phone or About tablet at the bottom of the screen. Locate Android’s version number on the about screen and quickly tap it several times. The Easter egg will appear. Look for “Firmware version” instead of “Android version” on Gingerbread. Jelly Bean’s Easter egg is a large, red jelly bean. Tap it with your finger and a face will appear. Long-press the jelly bean and an interactive jelly bean mini-game will appear. A cluster of jelly beans will float around the screen. You can move them around and swipe them off the screen with your finger. This game will never end (unless your battery dies).

Konami Code all around! If you remember this code, then awesome...you’re a geek too! Originally a cheat code for power-ups in the NES 1985 arcade game Gradius, the Konami Code has become a symbol in geek culture, and has achieved success as an Easter egg on various websites. Thrown in by sneaky developers as a way to access extra content, games or just something fun, Konami Code Easter eggs have been found on many sites across the net. Go ahead try it yourself!

uTetris Not that any of you out there have or will torrent anything in your life, but uTorrent contains an Easter Egg on the About screen. Simply hitting the ‘T’ key on your keyboard while viewing the About window in uTorrent will show a very rudimentary but playable version of Tetris. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to keep score or speed up as game play goes on, but it’s definitely useful as a distraction when you need a moment to think.

Google Earth Flight Simulator Hidden inside Google Earth is a secret Flight Simulator that uses Google’s extensive satellite imagery. To access the hidden feature, open Google Earth and hit Command+Option+A (note it must be capital A) or Ctrl+Alt+A if you’re using a Windows Machine. The Google Earth Flight Simulator comes with two aircraft options, a F16 Viper and the more manageable SR22 4 seater. Try not to crash into Tampa! APRIL 2014

KEVIN THE CEO

ADVICE CORNER

/////////////

We sat down with our very own CEO, Kevin Ellsworth and found out that he frequently heads out to the Skyway to enjoy a breezy morning of Kiteboarding. We wanted some answers! the learning process never stops FL411: How long does it take to as there are always new ways to learn to kiteboard? ride and handle your kite. One of the most exciting and rewarding Kevin: Although everybody learns aspects of kiteboarding is the infinite and progresses at a different rate, possibilities to continue to improve remarkably many people are able and expand your kiting skills, to ride around and kiteboard at a experiences, and fun.\ beginner level within their first 4-6 hours of kite experience. However FL411: Is kiteboarding expensive? even though basic skills develop quickly for many, kiteboarding is a Kevin: Kiteboarding, relatively complicated and unique sport with speaking, actually does not cost many variables that a person can very much. Although learning to only learn through experience, and kiteboard and purchasing gear does therefore we always recommend generally costs a few thousand at least 10-15 hours of supervised dollars, that can represent virtually kiteboarding to new riders. Once all the costs associated with the a new kiter is comfortable and sport for years worth of riding. knowledgeable with basic kiting, Compared to many sports and other recreational activities with annual or daily expenses (or both), kiteboarding ends up below the average in terms of total cost in the long term. FL411: What Wind Conditions Are Best For Kiteboarding? Kevin: Kiteboarding is now possible in winds as light 10mph or slightly

less and up. However, it is very difficult and takes a high skill level and specific equipment to ride in very light and very strong winds. Despite the possibilities of riding in very light and very strong wind, in general kiteboarding takes place in wind between 12 or 13 mph at the lightest, and 30 mph at the strongest. Although it is possible in winds less than 10-11 mph it is very difficult even for specialized lightwind kites to fly in such light wind, and therefore requires a lot of rider kite handling skill. And although many experienced riders are most excited by and prefer to ride in strong winds above 25 mph, kites are also difficult to use in those conditions as they become very powerful and very fast and sensitive as well. So although the minimum possible wind for kiteboarding is around 8 mph, and the maximum is determined by a riders skill level, equipment, and judgement, many kiters agree that the best all around wind strength for most levels and styles of kiteboarding is between 15 and 25 mph.

BEFORE ATTEMPTING A WATER START, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROPER BODY POSITION: Water Start Proper Posture 1: Bring your knees to your chest and pull your heels to your butt. Water Start Proper Posture 2: Extend your front leg and point your foot in the direction you want to travel. Tip: Keep your back heel tucked as close to your butt as possible and keep the front tip of the board out of the water!

To water start you need to power stroke the kite in the pattern shown below: 1. Pattern to fly kite for waterstart Fly your kite from 12 o’clock to 1 o’clock (or 11) on the edge of the wind window – this positions the kite for the power stroke. As you do this, you will rotate slightly in the water, but don’t worry – the closer your board is to pointing 45 degrees downwind, the easier the water start will be. 2. Rotation as kite moves for water start. Fly your kite through the wind window to the other side. If you are unsure of how much power you need, start with a small power stroke and increase the power if needed. As the kite begins to pull on the bar, drive your chest towards your knees. When you feel your board coming out of the water, stand up – you can pull on the control bar if you need a little extra help, but make sure not to over sheet the kite. 3. Once out of the water. straighten your legs (both your legs should be mostly straight a lot of the time), and put weight on your front foot to accelerate. Ride downwind to build up some speed, and then you’re on your way!

ST. PETERSBURG This is your guide for the people you need to know RIGHT NOW Resident DJ, Party Starter

DJ Dani

Sip Social Lounge, Suite 6, Makos, Hogans Beach and Neon Beach @ Shephards facebook.com/djdanic13 soundcloud.com/djdani16tampabay

Bio: Music has always been a big part of my life from elementary school where I learned how to play the recorder to high school where I was in the marching band. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I became interested in djing. the good old days where there was just vinyl and pretty much 1 genre that you would play. I started to go out to the club scene at the age of 19 and instantly I was hooked. I knew music was my passion and making people dance was what I needed to do. After much hard networking and going out on a regular basis, I finally got the chance to spin at my first night club. I became resident at Club Prana, Club Code, Fuel, and did guest spots at skye, full moon saloon, mirage, and a few more. I lived in st.pete so the drive to Tampa was a hard one for me since I was still young and parting as normal young adults my age would. I decided after a year spinning in Tampa to come back over the bridge and give St. Pete a try. The night life scene back then here was not very big. The only place dtsp really was Bishop’s Tavern until Push ultra Lounge opened up. So I tried the beaches. Landing weekly nights at Cabbanas. Then I got the opportunity to spin at Martini bar at the old baywalk, where I then got a night spinning at Banbu that was located there as well. Not making much money and just doing it for the passion, I decided to go back to school and leave the scene for awhile. After almost 2 years not spinning in clubs and only playing music in my bedroom, I decided to give it a go again. Back to the networking it was. I’ve been around the scene now for 3 years and everyday is a blessing, I get to do what I love to do and I love every min of it. Next stop for me is to keep building myself and to move up in the long line of very talented DJ’s who call Tampa Bay there home. I love what I do and it shows every time I’m behind those decks. Producing is the next step I’ve been working on and I look forward to play some festivals in the near future. If everyday 1 more person knows my name and enjoyed my set that’s another day I am building myself to where I want to be. Favorite tracks to play: I love the classic, from hypnotized to let me clear your throat, play them at the right time it will never fail, but I also love edm. My ratio on what I play in a night is 30% hip hop, 20% trap, 40% electro house and 10% what ever I’m feeling. The places I play at: I’m honored and grateful to be resident dj at Sip social lounge and suite 6 where you can catch me at on fridays and saturdays and sundays, mondays you can catch me at makos’ on the rocks where I spin a set alongside my Iyrus crew dj’s and Jaimie Ferreira. I’m also now a rotating resident at hogan’s beach once a month. Wednesdays you can catch me at shepherds for neon beach, as well as me doing guest spots all over the area

Jeff Chomin

Drummer with ROCTOPUS, Owner of Quantum Drums

For more information on our products, pricing, photos and videos, please feel free to inquire: Info@quantumdrums.com www.QuantumDrums.com

First, lets just let all you readers out there know that Jeff is the drummer for ROCTOPUS, a band here in the Bay Area that is plain awesome enough. But, if you want to make our list you have to be something extra! Well, Jeff owns and operates a side business of his called Quantum Drums. If you are a musician in the area they you NEED to know this guy. His drum kits can transform you as a musician to the next level, all before you even pick up your sticks! So we just had to ask Jeff what he was all about and to tell us a little bit about his company; Jeff: I’ve always been an inventor of sorts as well as an extremely motivated individual. I’ve also been playing the drums since the early age of (2) when my parents bought me my first toy drum. Private lessons began at age (5)... fast-forward (33) years and here I am about to embark on a new adventure building custom drums! 10

FL411

I’m currently talking to investors, working on getting my kit-builder installed on QuantumDrums.com, and will hopefully be attending the NAMM Show in 2015 with all of my products... that would be awesome! The idea behind my lugs and custom drums arose out of my frustration with the big-named drum and cymbal companies that most people end up selecting from the major musical instrument franchises like Guitar Center and Sam Ash... or Musician’s Friend online. I started with developing my line of RA Custom Cymbals in September of 2009 and since then have spent my time developing one of the coolest and most intelligentlydesigned drum lugs on the market. I promise to keep my prices lower than most custom drum manufacturers in the same manner my cymbals are an average of 50% of the cost of a Sabian or Zildjian... while featuring the very same alloy. Quantum Drums will surely become a natural force in the drumming community for years to come.

food&spirits

by Jordan Oliver

Making A Splash in Dunedin For 25 years Sea Sea Riders has been serving up delicious food that seems to honor true Florida. In a restored and converted 1903 beach house, this gem of Dunedin succeeds in transporting diners to a better time. The ambience is reminiscent of Key West and welcomes you to relax and enjoy your experience. Inside is a relaxing, classy, charming and romantic old Florida oasis. A great fireplace and welcoming staff deliver a great feel. A blend of local Florida ingredients and Caribbean flare infuse the menu to create a great mix of options. The true treat here is the time Sylvia and her staff have put into this ever changing menu. A menu that has helped Sea Sea Riders gain a consistent following and a passionate group of regulars. This is no mistake. By design the restaurant has focused on bettering itself, providing the best cuisine possible and most importantly taking care of its coveted guests. The easy going Florida vibe will help you navigate the overwhelming number of good choices. And there are oh so many. Try the Voted Best in Tampa Bay Black Bean Chili for starters. The Tempura Grouper Cheeks also caught our eye. There were enough appetizer options to satisfy any taste. The culinary emphasis is without a doubt in seafood, but the menu is capped off by poultry and steak dishes that won’t disappoint. For an entrée the word on the street is that the Vanilla Rum Glazed Grouper is delightful. Chargrilled, macadamia nut brittle crusted Grouper flecked with spiced pineapple and washed with red curry coconut cream over wild rice. Yum! You are in good hands here. The Shrimp n’ Grits with manchego cheese (you can say that again!) scallion, sweet & spicy bacon, and BBQ gastrigue is another display of Sea Sea’s culinary mission. It is definitely enough to keep you coming back. The Clam Strip Po Boy, Mahi or Grouper sandwiches and the classic Sea Sea burger offer you sure thing options and should not be over looked. There is also an abundance of mouthwatering pasta dishes to choose from. The menu is truly impressive and seems to reflect the care and craft of 25 years. In addition to lunch and dinner specials you can also find live music every Friday and Saturday from 6-10pm. It is a perfect addition to the Florida charm. The first Sunday of every month features music from the very talented Shoeless Soul. Sea Sea Riders has been regularly acclaimed for their excellence, and is certainly an area favorite. Their thoughtfully selected specials and attention to detail will keep this deserved establishment a fixture on the Gulf Coast for years to come. There are certainly plenty of reasons to head over to Dunedin to check out Sea Sea Riders.

The reggae dance party’s atmosphere is sure to lift your minds and spirits, and the music will take you straight into pure bliss.”

resinated H by Mike Poepping ave you been feeling party starved lately, like no matter where you go and what you do no one is ever on your level? Are you looking for a place to dance your ass off until the morning light while riding your high wherever it takes you? Well if you find yourself in that state of mind you need to check out a Resinated show stat, because you’re missing out on one of the area’s biggest and best kept secrets. Resinated is a reggae dance lover’s dream. Their hypnotic beats and enthusiastic rifts pump pure home-grown energy through their crowds until the venue closes for the night. Their shows have been known to start weekend long parties, all of which focus on the sweet tunes coming from their unreal ensemble, and the positive vibes that flow through their songs and into your soul. The band got their start a few years back while lead Kenny was playing some acoustic shows at local dive haven, Sportsman’s in Madeira. He was able to connect with some fellow skim-boarding reggae jam band fans and the rest is history. The band came together to make some magical new songs for a generation who’s used to genrehopping, and haven’t looked back since. Resinated’s creative influences draw from the likes of Sublime, Reel Big Fish, O.A.R., and even Jimi Hendrix. If you’re looking for a spot to match your upbeat mood, go to their ReverbNation page (reverbnation.com/ resinated) jam out to their excellent tunes, and check out the next time they play near you. What’s that? You say you’re not the biggest reggae fan? Well Resinated has got you covered because they don’t just stick to their reggae roots, they infuse a healthy mix of ska, funk, and jam band styles into their refreshing harmonic melodies that cause the crowd’s highs to bolster even further. The biggest news from the up and coming group is their annual 4/20 show at the Daiquiri Shack in Madeira, which is every “amateur herbologist’s” dream party. The reggae dance party’s atmosphere is sure to lift your minds and spirits, and the music will take you straight into pure bliss. If you are forced to miss out on the 4/20 festivities don’t worry, Resinated is set to release their new 12 track LP mid-summer, and will be opening for Soul Asylum, Eve6, and Everclear at Vinoy Park on June 14th so you won’t be missing them for too long. The bottom line is if you are looking for a great night out with your closest friends, you have to hit up one of their shows in your area. If you want that festival feeling in your own backyard, check out Resinated’s upbeat, infectious sets and settle in to your own mood, whatever that may be.

Laura, our bartender made me a signature rum runner (a sweet, tropical mixed drink loaded with flavored full barrelled rum ) topped with Myers in addition she poured us a Boxer favorite “Loopy Shot”! I asked Laura “whats your story?”she gave me a quick history from her native St. Louis, she now resides near the beach. She owns a successful business and in short is one sexy entrepreneur that makes a kick-ass drink! Working at the Boxer she loves her job with the crazy crowds and contagiously happy patrons the bar is full, in fact this premises is always jamming! Bring your dog, there is a pooch friendly patio, the T.V.’s have every sport imaginable including the NFL package, with the 2 complete bar set-ups you never have to wait for a cocktail. Arriving in packs wild spring-breakers shed their studious structure, sanity and clothes for non-stop partying. D.J. Donnie (at Shipwreck 5 nights a week), a veteran of the music industry and native of Clearwater Beach, has culminated and calmed this chaos. The challenging diverse crowds keep him busy, however he has an inept ability to get everyone on the dance floor. Right now is bass thumping dub-step, next everyone is shuffling Cuban style, a couple regulars come in and a quick change over to a two-stepping country line dance. Hula hooping, musical chairs and shout out’s “Happy Birthday Charlie, pussy (shot) on me!”. Anyone can push buttons, D.J. Donnie is a personality, the man behind the mic, anticipating what his crowd wants to hear. He respects the locals (Bob Marley while you shoot pool) caters to the curves (Pour some sugar on that bachelorette) and keeping status quo (those gals are twerking). His favorite part of being a D.J. is regulars, monthly themes (Seamans Ball) and Saturday Nights! What you want? Baby, he’s got it.

Beach Fyre Grill is HOT!! Following a chain of unsuccessful venues at this location, Steve (the owner) fired up just what this spring break mecca was missing. Roadside Memphis BBQ pit meets icy Atlantic shellfish result? An explosion of flavor. Bring your appetite, your buddies and plan to be there for a while. The key west “kick your feet up” feeling beckons you inside, but mostly people are chillin’ outside the garage doors. An icy cold local craft draught in one hand and a scoop of chili smothered Nachos in the other, jamming to DJ Cabana-Boy and watching all the bikinis meandering by. Inspired by Steve’s love for true fire-pit BBQ and native Baltimore roots the must tries are: Maryland Crap Soup loaded with fresh crabmeat in a flavorful broth, the sweet, savory and spicy pulled pork sandwich (with homemade Lava sauce!), grilled veggie medley lightly seasoned, grilled to perfection. FIND LOVE IN THE SAND As the beaches are getting easier to go too now that spring break is over, I thought it would be a good chance to talk about meeting someone out on the sand! I found some good stuff over at Complex.com to help some of you out there. So read on and find the love of your life this spring! Here some top tips to meeting someone at the beach. Get Yourself Right If you’re hoping to snag the 10 confidently strutting in the sand, do yourself a favor and get on her level. If she looks amazing, it didn’t probably didn’t happen effortlessly, even if she makes it look like it did. Put some work in to make sure you’re up to par before your toe even contemplates touching that scorching sand. A good place to start: Don’t wear your mesh gym shorts or last season’s chlorine faded trunks. Skip anything that shows your upper thigh or your butt crack. A proper piece of swimwear should sit at or slightly above your hip bone and should fall a few inches above your knee. No one wants to see your milky quads or get an eyeful of your happy trail. Speaking of that, if it’s out of control, clean it up. And, we realize it may already be too late to do anything about this, but if you haven’t been to the gym since high school and you’re as soft and doughy as freshly baked bagel, maybe you should work on that. Seriously though, at the end of the day, a genuine sense of self-confidence

(read: not just a cocky facade) makes up for variety of swimsuit shortcomings. Except for rocking a Speedo; nothing can make up for that. Choose Your Blanket Placement Wisely There are miles of sand out there, and you should traverse a good portion of it before settling down somewhere. Half of your technique lies in situating yourself in golden zone of opportunity. You should be surrounded by groups of mostly girls on each side, with special attention to avoiding families. You don’t want to be dodging toddlers in your moment of approach. Once you’ve claimed your beach territory, make sure to position your blanket so that you can not only see what’s out there, but so that whoever out there can also get a good glimpse of you in all your freshly trimmed, perfectly-trunked glory. Catch Her Eye It’s time to acknowledge what most girls rarely own up to: Checking you out and sizing you up like a piece of meat just as much as you and your boys do to us. The unsavory things that come out of the mouths of babes might surprise

HESAID/SHESAID you, and in some cases, offend you. With our wandering eyes in mind, rather than approaching her, just do your thing. Women love seeing boys just being boys: roughhousing with their friends, showing off newly acquired dance moves, and just generally enjoying themselves without her. By falling back, you give her a chance to sweat over you and point you out to her friends. You also win points for not being that ultra thirsty guy, which often reads as thinlyveiled desperation. Invite Her to Get Physical Pickup lines don’t work. They never have and they never will. The only effective way to meet a stranger is to approach her and start a genuine conversation. At a bar, this can be a little tricky. But, luckily for you, breaking the ice at the beach is much less difficult, especially if you have the right props. In this case your props can be any/all of the following: a volleyball, a boogie board, a Frisbee, a surf board or a Nerf ball. With your prop in hand, confidently walk up to her and her friends and challenge them to game. Guys vs. girls, losers buy beers!

Waltz . Tango . Foxtrot . Cha Cha . Rumba . Salsa . and more...

Sometimes it’s great to get out of the busy life of DTSP and Tampa. So we wanted to give Madeira Beach a shot to see if we can have a good time. Well, the results are to be expected. Cold drinks, amazing food and awesome people. This place has a bit of everything...especially the laid back beach life we all moved to FL to live! by Jordan Oliver

GOING

IN MADEIRA BEACH

MAD

It is no surprise that we are going mad for Madeira here at Fl-411. There is seriously no shortage of things to do and it’s only getting better. The beautiful gulf beaches and hard to beat sunsets make this stretch of Florida something to be loved. Head over to John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk. You can easily spend an entire day just wandering the shops and sampling the many fine restaurants. It is perfect for wandering to and from the beach. Bathing suits and flip flops dominate the fashion scene here. The boardwalk charm and great variety has led Visit Pinellas to vote John’s Pass Village the best place to shop in the county. Grab a daiquiri or a local brew and take it all in. You really start to get that vacation feel. On the boardwalk you will find plenty of excursions to make your day unforgettable. Boats, Cruises, and Tours are at your command. Fishing charters at Don’s Dock and Hubbard’s 24

There is no end to the good things going on along this great stretch. The secret is out. Madeira beach has great beaches, restaurants, shopping, and endless summer fun. Marina are a great way to get out on the water and pack some adventure into your day. Check out John’s Pass Dolphin watch or Dolphin Quest for an encounter with some Madeira wildlife. The many sunset cruises also offer the perfect way to end the day. If you prefer to spend your time on land, John’s Pass has plenty more to offer. Grab a hand rolled cigar, or just take in the aromas at Cuban Paradise Cigar & Café. Stop by Kilwins’ for some handcrafted and decadent fudge. Addicted to the Bean is a local coffee shop and a perfect place to take a moment. It is places like these that make the Village and Boardwalk a unique spot. Enjoy the cigar, coffee, or daiquiri (it’s five o’clock somewhere) and work up an appetite. As for restaurants, it is hard to find a more impressive group packed into such a perfect setting. Gators is a favorite and

an area staple. Their huge waterfront bar, great staff, lively events and delicious menu make them a much loved member of the John’s Pass community. There is always something going on. Waltz’ Fish Shack has a real charm to it as well, and its chalkboard menu is a nod to the freshness of the menu. It’s hard to decide with so many fresh and delicious options. The true variety helps locals and newcomers alike keep coming. There are also more established choices on the Pass like Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Hooters to keep competition stiff. Only the best make it here, and it is hard to go wrong. You will always find live music somewhere in Madeira and at John’s Pass. Friday and Saturday nights are filled with mixing rhythms on the gulf breeze. Happy hours and happy beach goers come together for good entertainment and great times.

APRIL 2014

While spending a day on Madeira’s beaches check out the Mad Beach Fish House. We love this place. They offer the perfect mix for the setting, breakfast through dinner. There are always specials and a great group to welcome you. The rooftop tiki-bar is a great place to spend some time taking in Madeira. Watch the boats go by, and enjoy their fresh selections and cold drinks. Or you can check out one of the area’s many famed fishing tournaments. The 21st Annual Spring KING of the BEACH & Mad Beach Food Fest is going down the first week of May. There will be plenty to see and sample this year. Music, food, and drinks abound as the newly added fishing tournament takes place. Those in the loop remember that Madeira beaches permit alcoholic beverages that are not in glass. Always ask or check with authorities, read signs and enjoy responsibly; but don’t underestimate the power of a day spent relaxing on the beach with your favorite adult beverage. There are few beaches in Florida that make such allowances and it makes the list as one of the reasons why we are going mad for Madeira Beach. A few drinks and some sun may be the perfect mix to make for a perfect day. For those looking for a more nostalgic day in Madeira spent with a date, friends, or family; head on over to Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf after dusting the sand off your cooler and beach gear. Afterwards stop off at Candy Kitchen, an area favorite. A landmark packed to the brim (seriously) with treats and ice cream. Then end the night at John’s Pass where you can find anything your heart still desires. There is no end to the good things going on along this great stretch. The newly redone beachside Snack Shack is a great example of how things just keep getting better. The secret is out. Madeira beach has great beaches, restaurants, shopping, and endless summer fun. Go Mad and take a day or a weekend to find out for yourself.

Caddy’s Anyone? I Need a drink andby aMike sunset. Poepping I f you’re in the St. Pete Beach area (more specifically around Treasure Island) and are looking for fun in the sun mixed with party time antics and adult beverages, than look no further than Caddy’s on the Beach. This quality gem has been a staple of the Treasure Island area for years, and has a reputation as the best place to grab a drink and relax on the water. This ocean side establishment is a 20 something’s diamond in the rough, and is a great place to start or finish a marathon day on the beach. You’ll definitely be impressed by the surroundings, whether you decide to sit inside the facility or out. The decorative indoor area will allow you to recharge the batteries after hanging in the sun for hours with your friends. It will also give you a different experience than the beach side lounging area does, which is great because when you get tired of your surrounds, you can change them up. The artfully playful décor is usually complemented by a DJ or band of sorts, whom never play a bad piece. This makes the atmosphere at Caddy’s unrivaled in the area, and shows why they’ve been a Treasure Island main stay for so long. One thing is certain you can’t go to Caddy’s on the Beach and have a bad time. Even if you’re in a sour mood heading there, whether due to traffic, or a bad day in general, once you park you’ll be transported to an island paradise that will have you sipping on your favorite drinks under a beachside table or cabana in no time flat! What’s that, oh you’re hungry you say, well Caddy’s has some good news for you: they’ve been long known to have Treasure Island’s best barbeque, so eat up!

REAL ESTATE

REAL ESTATE = REAL INVESTMENT Work with a Realtor you can trust for local knowledge and honest representation.

any homeowners are considering selling now that the market is coming back and home values are increasing. The real question is should I stay or should I go? The best answer to that is, do you have enough equity in your current home to sell it and afford a move up? Remodeling doesn’t have to be expensive to make a difference and sometimes a few simple updates will make your place feel new again. 1. Painting. The easiest way to change your look. Wall color is easy, look at design magazines and see what is currently popular and will blend with your furnishings. Consider a focus wall with a more vibrant color and contrasting trim. Next kitchen cabinets, take a good look at them. Do they look 1980’s 70’s older? Unless your home is retro and you are sticking with that era then consider painting, changing the hardware and/or adding a new backsplash with the trendy glass tiles or another texture that draws the eye. 2. First impressions count. If your front door is old, peeling, dry wood or just plain dirty start there. Consider a red or black front door and a new knocker and house numbers. What you see before you open the door sets the mood. 3. Storage and space. People look for space for their own things when they are shopping for a new home. If your home is stuffed to the gills consider a storage space and move what you aren’t using for the next few weeks.

4. Light. Most people are drawn to light airy homes. They see themselves enjoying the space and being happier than in dimly light rooms. Feelings play a larger role in home buying than you might think. 5. Color. If you suffer from the blahs get some color in the picture. Pick one color and buy two or three new sofa pillows, a small art piece to hang or put on a table and a rug that have that focal color and place them around the room to draw the eye from one area to another. Don’t be afraid to move your furniture and art around to change things up. How to Save for a Vacation By Deborah Christofferson

Going on a vacation is getting easier to afford. There are many options available now than there were many years ago. My clients have said to me, I really want to go on a vacation but I don’t want to charge it on my credit card. I know that charging on a credit card, (if you are not going to be paying for it in full the following month) is a NO NO!! You can end up paying more in the end. Here are a few tricks on how to be able to save money and go on that much needed vacation. When you shop and pay for something with a 20.00 bill, keep the leftover $ 5.00 or $10.00 bill and put that away in your travel fund. Do this

each and every time you get at least $ 5.00 back in change. Just Stash it away! Your savings fund will begin to grow fast. I also give my clients the opportunity to book their vacations and we will and set up a payment plan so each month they can make regular payments without fees or interest prior to their travel. Another great way to travel is to list your home in a home swap program (you will be able to swap homes to your dream destination). You can also barter your services for lodging like at a bed and breakfast. You never know they may need accounting advice or a landscaper for a day.

What is summer without a rooftop, backyard, or poolside party? It’s a summer misspent, friends. One of our favorite evening activities is the impromptu hangout, enjoying the warm night air and a cool, summer cocktail in our hands. But, let’s face it: Whipping up drinks for a bunch of friends can be a costly headache, and do you even know where your shaker is? Enter: sangria. This is a classic wine punch you can whip up in five minutes and serve all your thirsty friends at once, for less than what costs for one fancy bottle of wine. Plus, nothing says summer like this light, fruity quaff. A little juice, a little fruit, and one bottle of red - and you have yourself an evening...plus, cash leftover for a second round. Ingredients: 1/2 orange, thinly sliced 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced 1 apple, cored and sliced 2 tbsps fresh lime juice 2 tbsps fresh orange juice 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup brandy 1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur (like Cointreau or Grand Marnier) 1 bottle hearty red wine 1 750-ml bottle sparkling water Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher, excluding the sparkling water. Stir until sugar dissolved completely. For the wine, don’t get fancy. A high-end wine is unnecessary and will lose it’s complexity when combined with all these ingredients. Try a Rioja, Cabernet, Chianti, Sangiovese, or Merlot for around $10. Ideally, let the sangria chill in the fridge for an hour or so, then top with sparkling water and serve!

Hogans Beach by Jordan Oliver

March Madness at

Hogan’s Beach has made a statement in the Tampa Bay Area. There is no better place to find yourself on the bay, and Hogan’s knows how to have a good time. There is never a dull moment here and we mean that in the best possible way. The setup is engineered to accommodate those who want to enjoy a great atmosphere, have fun, and be taken care of. Outside you will find an impressive stage that regularly hosts some of Florida’s biggest acts. Two volleyball courts are the centerpiece of cabanas, tables and two separate bars. The patrons here take advantage of all Hogan’s has to offer. And it’s all on the water. It is as good as it sounds, and Hogan’s keeps things going well after the sun goes down. SIN Mondays are the place to be for those in the know (Service Industry Night). LED glow volleyball, Live DJ’s and drink specials round out these unforgettable nights from 9 to close. The crew from Bay Area Nightlife Staffing will be on deck, so you can be rest assured it will be a good time. In fact, there is never a bad time to find yourself at Hogan’s Beach. Their menu and drinks can hold their own, and so can the view. Latin Fridays always brings out a great crowd under the stars. You can feel like you are getting away from it all on Reggae Saturdays. Enjoy the music, the water and the vibe. Social Sundays have become the stuff of local legend. For a truly epic time come out on Sunday, April 27th. Hogan’s Beach and Bay Area Nightlife will be hosting Zeds Dead. The Canadian Electronic music duo is going to put on an unforgettable show at an unbeatable venue. Mark your calendar because there is nowhere else you will want to be. Coming off an epic Spring Break run, Hogan’s Beach is gearing back up to continue being the go-to and hottest destination on Tampa Bay throughout the summer. Don’t just take our word for it when we say Hogan’s has something for everyone. “Fresh-local and flight-fresh seafood, along with highquality beef, poultry and produce, allow us to present a menu that will make Hogan’s Beach a dining destination as much as it is a place to come and have fun on the beach, waterside.” They have delivered on their promise, and it seems as though they plan on continuing to do so. Hogan’s Beach has consistently upped the ante, and has provided Tampa Bay with a much needed hot spot on the water. Stop by for a drink, make it a day, or check out one of their epic events. You will have a hard time not making a habit of it. 32

SPORTSTALK

Running for those who can’t The world’s most spectacular running race ever will take place on May 4th 2014, when thousands of runners will set off on a unique race staged simultaneously on up to 35 different courses in 33 different countries on 6 continents. The Wings for Life World Run aims to raise funds for spinal cord research and will start precisely at 10am UTC at the exact same time in locations across the globe - meaning that runners in some countries will be running from dawn to dusk while others will be racing from dusk to dawn. Open to participants of all levels, shapes, sizes, abilities and ages, the outstanding feature of the first such global sporting event is that the moving finish line will be chasing the racers from behind instead of the racers running towards a set finish line. Exactly 30 minutes after the runners set off at some of the most spectacular locations around the world, official Catcher Cars will set off behind the packs in pursuit of the runners. When a Catcher Car passes a runner, their race is over. The last man and last woman running will be declared the winners. Sunrise, Fla. – This run will take place among palm tree-lined streets in the scenic South Florida community of Sunrise. Runners can expect moderate temperatures and flat terrain leading through suburban landscapes. The race will begin at 6 AM Eastern Time at the BB&T Center and wind through the beautiful cities of Sunrise and Weston before making a northwesterly turn along U.S. 27, which leads runners northwest into the Florida Everglades. Mountain biker Aaron Chase, wakeboarder Steel Lafferty, surfer Jamie O’Brien, BMX rider Kevin Robinson and lacrosse superstar Paul Rabil are supporting the Sunrise race. There is still time to sign up for the race at wingsforlifeworldrun.com; the deadline for registrations is Apr20.
