Fuck You, Tammy! Debut - Sycamore Trees EP

Fuck You, Tammy! aka “The Band From Another Place,” performs the music of Twin Peaks and the David Lynch Extended Cinematic Universe. They are based in New York City.

After six years of refining their stunning interpretations of songs from the Lynchiverse through live performance, FYT! is pleased to release their debut EP, Sycamore Trees.

Sycamore Trees is available as a 12” on 140g vinyl, pressed at 45 rpm for maximum fidelity, as well as for download on Bandcamp as well streaming on all platforms. streaming on all platforms. Listen on SoundCloud

Fuck You, Tammy! has been described as “lustrous, lurid, cinematically sexy” and “one of NYC’s best live groups […] I prepared for their show to be awesome – I was not prepared for the level of musicianship, the incredible attention to detail and the sheer intensity of their performance.“

Fuck You, Tammy! has played The Iridium NYC; headlined The Bell House, the Mercury Lounge, Elsewhere, 2019’s infamous BLACK LODGE/ WHITE NOISE Halloween party at 3 Dollar Bill; headlined the Wild World of David Lynch at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater in 2021 and 2023; and headlined 2019’s Eraserhood Forever at PhilaMOCA.

“After playing these songs as a band for six years, we really wanted to memorialize these arrangements in the studio. Our versions had become beautifully realized in ways that opened up unexplored aspects of the originals while remaining true to the essence of the songs - we wanted to anchor each track in the unified sonic world that we’ve developed while drawing from so many different genres, and have the production reflect that - dream-feel, out of any particular time, both familiar and uncanny at once.”

“Our version of Sycamore Trees moved us to make the record, and the song itself mirrors the felt experience of watching a Lynch film. I got idea man … you take me for a walk - you enter an alchemical dream space of terror, beauty and transformation - and these tracks are our own transformations of the songs from entering their worlds repeatedly via live performance. So it seemed the appropriate overarching song and single - the space “under the sycamore trees” is the portal to the rest of the world of the EP.

“We chose ioulex to do the record photography and the video for Sycamore Trees, in part because of their beautiful work with CRT imagery. Dreams are “received transmissions” from the unconscious, and the worlds of TV and film are “received transmissions” as well. As a band we aspire to tap into the same deep well of the dream world as Lynch does, channeling these songs into life in our own way, and using CRT-mediated imagery in this way made sense as the visual expression of our music. “

ABOUT THE RECORD

FYT! reaches across the decades to gather songs from Twin Peaks and the David Lynch Extended Cinematic Universe that are gorgeous but always have something potentially sinister below the surface. This unifying throughline is traced in neon by lead singer Devery Doleman’s remarkable vocal performance, evoking simultaneously the Woman In Trouble as well as the shadowy menace lurking just out of frame. The band’s arrangements show a phenomenal sense of musicianship, seamlessly drawing from alternative rock, dream pop, jazz, synthpop, and cabaret in a way that feels like a remembered dream and yet entirely free of time; It’s the music of Twin Peaks filtered through 30 years of the reality Lynch is alluding to in The Return.

From a sinister feedback-noir take on “Sycamore Trees”, to the Chromatics’ “Shadow” reimagined as a new wave anthem, to a reinvention of “Falling” that audaciously melds the groove of Luscious Jackson with saxophones straight out of Bowie’s Blackstar, FYT! slinks along the tightrope between era and genre to produce an EP that is genuinely devastating.

Over and over, the record also incorporates a 1990s sensibility the way Lynch incorporated the 1950s: Here is the savage menace under the glossy surface. Here is the severed ear in the manicured grass. Here is the woman of your dreams who exists only there - falling, falling in love - until she bursts into fire.
