How do we work together with our partners?
Whole school development work Our consultants worked with Nethergate special school in Nottingham to support the staff in establishing a new culture of e-confidence. Consultants were involved in a wide range of activities to help the school move forward: “The e-learning centre has had a big impact in this school. They have provided training, resources and strategic direction. An e-learning consultant worked with staff to develop our ICT vision in school. They were very responsive when we identified training needs and provided sessions for interactive whiteboards and also the rich use of ICT in the classroom. I like the sound of this, but who are you? nelc have developed from the Nottingham City e-Learning Centres, within Nottingham City Children and Families. Since 2001 our team of experienced and dedicated teachers and technicians have been: • working directly with schools to improve standards with new technologies. • contributing strategically to developments in the local authority, providing consultancy services to Building Schools for the Future (BSF). • contributing as providers and trainers to regional and national programmes and events. There is now a massive body of knowledge, both technical and pedagogical, available to schools and local authorities.

Flexible support packages nelc are offering an exciting range of services to schools, based on 3 or 5 day packages, with the option to purchase additional consultancy days according to your needs. The time can be deployed flexibly to provide: • Consultancy support for key strategic areas of work (technology advice & support; improving the quality of teaching with technology, developing a web presence etc) • Development support for curriculum specialisms (e.g. maths, English, Science, ICT, modern foreign languages, design technology, music and media). • Support with developing, implementing and managing ICT policies and procedures. • Access to termly programme of training events. • Reduced pricing for any further consultancy days. • A free planning meeting as well as email and telephone support.

Example 1 Interactive whiteboards There has been a lot of money invested in these boards, and schools need to ensure they are being used appropriately. This project is designed to win back some value for schools and start developing impact in the classroom. Depending on individual school circumstances we can ensure that: • boards are properly set up and have the latest software • staff are audited for skills and trained to an appropriate level • IWB champions are trained to a much higher level • a variety of strategies for using IWBs in the classroom are shared and exploited for maximum benefit.
Example 2 Enriching your school with multimedia Schools can choose from a wide range of practical options agreed at an initial planning meeting. A few examples are: • A pupil centred video for your school • A session for students or staff in a professional green screen TV studio • Recording or videoing your keynote school productions • Updating and advising on your media library • Developing the use of your learning platform or online presence.

Example 3 Planning and delivery of your whole-school inset day. A training day delivered by up to 3 e-learning consultants on any area of technology use agreed with the school. Some examples:• Supporting literacy development with mobile technology • ICT delivered through subjects • Enjoying teaching with new tools • Keeping up with developments in new technology and the internet.
Example 4 e-Safeguarding Service. Although most schools are well organised with regard to child protection, the picture for the field of e-safeguarding is less clear. Our service will undertake to lead a school through a review or development of their ethos, policies and procedures. Key considerations will be: • What is the Ofsted view? • The critical importance of acceptable use policies (AUPs) for staff • The wider role of e-safeguarding within your child protection policies • Passive or active management of internet access? • Ensuring you meet the highest standards of safeguarding.
