How-to

Stop Motion Animation Getting started in stop motion animation The basic tools needed are: • a camera (webcam, digital video camera or some digital still cameras) • a tripod (to keep the camera steady) • software on a computer (some free ones are mentioned here) • some character models • a good light source

Tripod

If you don’t want your animation to look shaky, your camera must stay completely still. Therefore, a tripod will be very useful. There are many full size tripods and mini tripods available. A bigger, heavier tripod will be harder to accidently nudge. You could always use a pile of books!

The camera

The camera you use depends o from the following:

• a simple webcam connecte • a digital video (DV) camera mac) • a still digital camera

Most animation software uses firewire cable from a suitable D from the computer to take pict have firewire ports and are the Still digital cameras will not giv animation software.
