On behalf of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, Beta Omicron Sigma (B.O.S.) Chapter, I would like to welcome you to our 3rd Annual Blu Derby event. This event has become a signature program that not only brings us together for a day of fun and fellowship, but also supports our scholarships and youth programs. So, on behalf of B O S , THANK YOU for your support!
Our motto is “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity,” which speaks to our unwavering attention on serving and developing our community. As Sigmas, we are focused on improving the lives of young African American boys and teens; promoting and supporting blackowned businesses; educating black men on the power of mental and physical health; and cultivating a desire to participate in social action and the legislative process. Further, we are “constitutionally” committed to supporting the work of our sisters of Zeta Phi Beta, Incorporated, as they focus on the high ideals of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.
As our Special Guest at The Blu Derby, we trust you will enjoy the fashion, great music, wonderful food, and the many beverage options. Good luck with winning the competitions for Best Dressed for the Gentlemen and Best Hat/Fascinator for the Ladies! We also invite you to participate in our 50/50 raffle, our upstairs cigar and bar area, and of course, a real-time viewing of the most exciting two minutes in sports, The Kentucky Derby LIVE from Churchill Downs!!
Once again, thank you for supporting the Blu Derby!
Dr. Anthony B. Redic, President Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Beta Omicron Sigma (B.O.S.) Chapter
HISTORY OF Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter
The Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter was chartered on June 4, 1949 by five ingenious men: James W. Parrish, J.E. Payden, Fred Philpott, C. Edgar Sinkford, and Marion T. Frederick.
Over the years, Our chapter has seen members come and go; however, our stability lies in our members’ love for true Brotherhood, committed Service, and uncompromising Scholarship. Our vision, “Providing outstanding community service and social programs that address issues that impact African-American men and boys in Columbus Ohio,” has kept our chapter on the cutting edge of community service for over 70 years.
We believe wholeheartedly in our Fraternity motto, “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity”, and efforts to gauge the needs of African-American men and boys have driven some of our most successful programs.
As we continue to move forward, The Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter will continue the legacy of focusing on issues and efforts to gauge the needs of African-American men and families in order to strengthen communities. We are focused on the high ideals set forth by our Honorable Founders:
• Brotherhood
• Scholarship
• Service
Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter moving forward and serious about SERVICE. A Sigma man embraces the memories of the past and looks forward to creating paths for the future.
