2. I like that this sonnet shows that Shakespeare is trying to find the best way to describe the person he is writing about and he doesn’t think a summer’s day is good enough. I also like that he talks about the English summer which is short, windy and sometimes the sun doesn’t shine. I find some of the old words difficult to understand. 3. The tone of Shakespeare is love and confusion. He writes in the first person. He is trying to find the best way to describe the person he is writing about. He starts by comparing them to a summers day but then gives reasons why it is not a good comparison. He says the person is more lovely and more temperate than summers day and summer can have winds or be too hot or not have enough soon and summer ends quickly. He then says the person has longer lasting and eternal beauty.
Fog By Carl Sandburg (Free Verse) 1. Sandburg uses metaphor in this short poem about fog over the city. He compares the fog to a cat with little feet who moves quickly and silently over the harbor toward the city. He likens the fog over the city to the cat sitting on it hunches before it decides to move on. The poet also uses personification. In line 3 he says the fog “sits looking” giving the fog human qualities. There is also some alliteration in lines one and two with fog and fee (f), comes and car (c). 2. I like that this poem is short and it gives me a good picture of what the fog is like over the city. The image of the cat is a good way to describe how the fog moves.
