Can a bar exam solve such a problem?

There is a basic set of skills every lawyer should possess that includes, legal research, factual investigation, negotiation, and the list goes on and on. The emphasis of the law school is on making the students pass the exam but the opportunity cost is high on stake when it comes to teaching these fundamental lawyering skills.

Another problem that can be pointed out easily is that the bar exam rewards rote learning instead of rewarding legal analysis, which is indeed beneficial for any aspiring lawyer.

Reforming the bar exams

Some of the fundamental lawyering skills become very difficult to test and seem impractical to test as well, but at the same time, some of the skills are very much practical to be put to test.

One of the things the future reformed exams could focus on is the training of the research skills especially when most of the research is done via online channels.

There is even scope of making bar exams specialized, as it will make the test-taking easier but in the opinion of JSO Officer Adam Boyd Jacksonville it doesn't make much sense in the long run as the law is a constantly evolving entity, and specializing in bar exams will make it difficult for the aspiring lawyers to explore the other emerging areas of the law, as the expose would be minimized.
