The Best Linguists in the Industry

Our evaluation process conforms to interpreting standards defined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC) and the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA).

Interpreters are Medically Qualified

• Complete a 40-hour Interpreter Training Course or have equivalent qualifications certified by Propio’s QA team

• Have extensive professional interpreting experience

• Complete a culture fit interview demonstrating emotional intelligence and the ability to be empathetic in the most challenging situations

• Pass a third-party language proficiency test – with a score of 3 or higher (out of 5) on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Scale

• Pass mock interpreting sessions evaluated by Propio’s QA department

• Pass a written 150-question medical terminology test

• Sign commitments to adhere to the interpreter code of ethics and confidentiality requirements

• Pass an IT/equipment test to verify compliance with workplace standards

(All Propio ASL interpreters hold a minimum of one (1) integral State or National Certifications.)

To qualify for hire, all interpreter applicants are required to:

Translators are required to meet the following requirements in compliance with the ISO 17100:2015 standard

All translators are required to hold either:

• A college degree in translation

• A college degree in another field plus two (2) years of full-time translation experience

• Three (3) years of full-time professional translation experience

All Translators are also required to complete a rigorously-assessed 300-word translation sample.

Propio’s Braille services are performed by transcriptionists and reviewers certified by the National Library of Congress.

Qualifications:

Translators are certified by the ATA or an equivalent agency in their home country.

To avoid inconsistencies in global certification standards, linguists must meet the following additional requirements for each certification:

• Have at least 1 year of full-time medical, legal, and commercial translation experience

• Pass Propio’s medical, legal, and commercial terminology assessments

• Maintain a 4 / 5 rating or higher on evaluations by experienced medical, legal, and commercial translation reviewers

Interpreting services

Average connect time is 12 seconds for Spanish calls and 23 seconds for all other languages. Connect times are tracked for every call and available through our client portal.

Ability to select male or female interpreters on demand, as needed, without having to make a reservation in advance

Unique DID (Direct Inward Dialing) phone numbers with local area codes for each department or agency allows you to skip the main menu and need to enter an access code.

Auto attendant menu programmable to your organization’s seven most-used languages on speed dial (e.g., “1” for Spanish, “2” for Vietnamese, “3” for Arabic, etc.).

Customizable intake questions. If desired, our interpreters can capture supplemental information prior to beginning the interpreting session. Intake questions are optional.

Free third-party dial-out (i.e., conference calling) for all OPI calls. Callers can dial their dedicated interpreting number and ask the interpreter for a third-party dial-out.

Limited English Participant (LEP) Direct Dial eliminates language barriers by allowing the LEP to dial a phone number, select their language, and connect to an interpreter who can assist them
