• Pass a written 150-question medical terminology test

• Pass an IT/equipment test to verify compliance with workplace standards
(All Propio ASL interpreters hold a minimum of one (1) integral State or National Certifications.)
To qualify for hire, all interpreter applicants are required to:

Translators are required to meet the following requirements in compliance with the ISO 17100:2015 standard
• A college degree in translation
• A college degree in another field plus two (2) years of full-time translation experience
• Three (3) years of full-time professional translation experience
All Translators are also required to complete a rigorously-assessed 300-word translation sample.
Propio’s Braille services are performed by transcriptionists and reviewers certified by the National Library of Congress.
Translators are certified by the ATA or an equivalent agency in their home country.
To avoid inconsistencies in global certification standards, linguists must meet the following additional requirements for each certification:
• Have at least 1 year of full-time medical, legal, and commercial translation experience
• Pass Propio’s medical, legal, and commercial terminology assessments
• Maintain a 4 / 5 rating or higher on evaluations by experienced medical, legal, and commercial translation reviewers
• Use of the “first person” method of interpreting
• Attending to nonverbal cues that may indicate confusion and encourage clarification
• Managing the smooth flow of communication through conscious pacing and focused discussion
• Asking the client for clarification when the interpreter does not understand the terminology or message
• Interpret meaning-to-meaning by listening carefully, determining the meaning, and accurately conveying the speaker’s message

Interpreters are not responsible for what is said by anyone for whom they are interpreting.
The interpreter will not influence the opinion of patients or clients by telling them what action to take.
Interpreters strive to develop a relationship of trust and respect through a caring-yet-impartial attitude.
An interpreter shall decline an assignment if their competency or personal sentiments affect their professional manner.
Expert evaluators review randomly selected phone interpreting sessions in which interpreters are required to score 80% or greater.
Propio records Phone Interpreting calls for quality assurance purposes, and retains them for sixty (60) days.
Callers can rate interpreters at the end of sessions; anything below a 3 (out of 5) gets flagged for review.
Clients are encouraged to escalate any quality concerns to their Client Success Manager (CSM). Investigation and mitigation is addressed within 2 business days.
Propio has an internal interpreter performance tracker. In the event of a negative client experience, the interpreter is placed on probation until the issue has been remediated.
Average connect time is 12 seconds for Spanish calls and 23 seconds for all other languages. Connect times are tracked for every call and available through our client portal.

Unique DID (Direct Inward Dialing) phone numbers with local area codes for each department or agency allows you to skip the main menu and need to enter an access code.
