Orientation Learn about campus. Are you new to the Broken Arrow campus? A Transfer Orientation each fall and spring gives you the tools to be successful at NSU. Meet fellow students and faculty, learn about campus services, take a campus tour, and discover opportunities to get involved in this engaging one-day orientation session.

There were a couple of years there (after retiring), when I didn’t know what to do. I was scared to come back to NSU because I figured none of my credits would count. NSU put me on a plan to finish my degree in a year and a half. The classes were really hard but all my advisors and instructors helped me through every bit of it. Any time I got to the point where I felt demotivated, they kind of picked me up and supported me the whole time.

I’m working for Seminole Science Charter School (FL), which is a tuition-free, public charter school that specializes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) classes. Had it not been for NSU robotics (Robotics Academy of Critical Engagement or R.A.C.E.), there was no way I could have competed for this position. They interviewed people from all over the United States and my experiences here definitely gave me an edge over a lot of candidates.

Academic Advising

NSU is very unique, as far as colleges go. They let you get a lot of hands-on experience with research that you don’t get at most big universities. There you don’t have the one-on-one interaction with professors like you do here. If you’re looking for a place that’s going to focus on your education as much as they are focused on how you get your education, a place that’s going to give you an interpersonal relationship with each instructor, a place that makes you feel like it’s not just their job to teach but they’re going to help you accomplish your job of learning—NSU is the place to be.

Apply yourself from day one. You’re here for a reason—to get an education, to better yourself, to give back to the community in some way, shape or form. I took a tour of NSU and automatically fell in love with it. I got the letter ten days later. It was the longest ten days of my life. Right then I went back to Tahlequah, signed up for my classes and I started applying myself even harder, because I knew this was a university and I really wanted to do it right this time. I’m on the honor roll—again. It’s amazing. A lot of people probably have the same story that I have. It’s never too late to go back. I’m 27 years old and I will graduate when I am 29 or 30. At the end of the day, I am going to have that piece of paper and I’m going to be where I want to be in life.
