Designedasagameroomforthekids,theapartmentwillbecomeafuturerentalunit. Asa750SFunit,thegarageapartmentmaximizesviewsoverlookingtheyard.





WorkedwithBrickmoon'sDesignDirectorthroughoutallphasesofthisproject. Thegoalwastoshowcasethebuilder'scraftwithaspeculativehome.Wealso designedtheclient'sbusinessofficewhichislocatedonthesamelot.

ProjectManagerofthis2storyremodel.Theclientswereayoungcouplelookingforspacetogrow afamily.TheirgoalwastoincreasetheLivingroom,Kitchen,andMasterSuite.Additionally,gain aGuestBedroomandanOffice.

Theclient'sbudgetplayedakeyroleindesign.Tomaximizebudget,considerationwastakentosimplify plumbing,roofplan,andelevations.Workedcloselywiththecontractorthroughoutthedesignprocessto staywithintheclient'sbudget.Additionally,thisprojectwascoordinatedwithin-houseInteriorDesigners.

Situatedonasmalllot,thisspeculativehomemaximizedthebuildingfootprintwhilestill creatingfunctionaloutdoorspacewithanopenconceptfloorplan.Largeglasswallsaccentuate theyardfromthelivingspaceswhilemaintainingprivacyonthe2ndfloorwithtransoms. Additionally,ceilingconditionsdefinespaceswithoutinterferingwiththebackyardview.

Structuralengineeringcoordinationwasoftheutmostimportancetosuccessfullydesignthishouse. Detailslikedownspouts,headers,andwindowshadeshadtobeintegratedwithotherprofessionsto createthecleanmodernaestheticdesiredbytheclient.

Previouslyaresidentialareawithavibrantculturallife,ArmstrongParkiscurrentlyamostlydeserted portionoftheTremeneighborhooddesignedtoretainwaterrunoff.Thisprojectsseekstoreimagine thelandashousingwhilestilladdressingthefloodingissue.

Historical,LiveOakTreesframedmanystreetsofTreme.Currently,fewstreettreesremain. Thisconceptshowstheadditionoftreesconnectingthepublicspaces.Reintegrating ArmstrongParkwithitssurroundings.

Therearethreeresidentialarchetypesrepresentedonthesite.Amphibioushouses,raisedfoundation,andon gradefoundation.Thedifferencesindesignshighlighttheinteractionbetweenwaterandthebuilt environment.Additionally,thewateronsitewillbefilteredthroughvegetationandaeratedwithwater fountainstopromoteaquaticlifeanddecreasehumidity.

Avarietyofhousingisavailableinthisdesign.Fromsinglefamilyhomesto4bedroomapartmentunits. Additionally,therewillbeaGroceryStore,Pharmacy,andOfficesaccessiblefromNorthRampartSt. ThebuildingsectionsaboveshowtheGrocerystorewithofficesandApartmentsabove.Theapartmentshave beensteppedbackfromthestreetcornertoresemblethecontext.
RecipientoftheACSADesign-Build2020ArchitecturalEducationAward:Groundworkisa multipurposeoutdoorclassroom,eventspace,andcommunityfacilityrunbyalocalnonprofit organization.Theprojectprovidesanewspaceforthenonprofit,whicheducateslocalgradeschool studentsaboutenvironmentalconservation,watermanagement,andurbanagriculture.

Groundworktakescuesfromthelocalurbanfabricandsimultaneouslycreatesadistinctive,vibrant,colorful spacebefittingtheworkofthenonprofit.Inadditiontotheoutdoorclassroom,theprojectscopealso includeslandscapedesign,waterinfrastructure,perimeterfencing,signage,gardeningstations,andstorage facilities.Groundworkwasdesigned,built,andconstructedinasinglesemesterbyateamof14students.
