Partial Plan: The Indian’s Trail & Pottery Educational Center Kuzarek Year: 2020 Team: Juan Pablo Murcia, Laura Gonzales Type: Academic Role: Design and visualization Location: Buenavista, Quindio, Colombia.

Concepts, keywords: Mesh, Web, Unit, Education, Pottery.

The bridle paths are traditional to the area; nevertheless, at present, they are disconnected from the main road network. Therefore, the intention is to restore them using ecological trails that connect rural areas with the urban center The master plan is conceived in response to the need to integrate and weave together the municipality of Buenavista, proposing urban-architectural landmarks connected by a series of trails.

The objective of the proposal is to promote ecotourism and highlight activities inherent to our ancestors through educational and interactive centers.

The urban scope of the proposal involved designing the routes and urban settings within one of these trails that connect the municipality. The architectural scope was the design of an educational center focused on pottery.

The focus is on the modification and the regeneration of this fragile territorie. During the investigation process we settled 6 design criteria that we consididered mandatory to develop and empowering urban and architectural resilience and affordance.

Pottery Educational Center Kuzarek

The symbolic essence of the project is primarily manifested in the recovery of the ancestral spirit and traditions of the Quimbaya people through the pottery and clay school. Formally, it is evident in the envelope through the repetition of the representative seals that the Quimbaya´s natives used to paint their faces, composed of organic spiral geometries.

Through this, the aim is to express and commemorate the roots of a community that laid the foundations for the present-day municipality.

The overall organization of the project is focused on education, as it is a pottery and clay school developed in a bar-type building that includes a modeling workshop with a capacity for 24 students, a restroom facility, an exhibition gallery for the pieces created by the students, and a ceramic artwork firing room.

Partial Plan: Health city & Geriatric Center El Refugio Year: 2021 Team: Juan Pablo Murcia, Juan pablo Chacon and Ximena martines Type: Academic Role: Design and visualization Location: Bogotá, Colombia.

Concepts, keywords: Urban cluster, Unit, Mental Health, Heritage.

Health City was conceived as a proposal for an urban cluster, aiming to preserve, respect, and rehabilitate heritage buildings that were part of the original hospital complex.

The project is oriented towards centralizing hospital use within a large complex, consolidating the facilities within the defined area, with the prospect of establishing a health hub at the local and departmental levels.

The design is centered around a transverse promenade that harmonizes the four architectural proposals and also establishes a connection with the city’s ecological framework.

In parallel, a programmatic design is suggested for urban environments where both active and passive relational activities can unfold

The design of ‘El Refugio’ was conceived through the question: What does the form convey?The form of the proyect is informed by three main determinants: The context, the use and the character.

In relation to the context, the project is adjacent to a heritage building from the republican era, and the aim is to respect and not compete against it. In this way, ‘El Refugio’ opens towards it Through architectural elements, the intention is to support both the staff working in the unit and the patients in need of assistance. How is this intended to be achieved? By projecting meeting spaces characterized by interpersonal relationships.

These spaces are further reinforced and complemented by the architectural program.

Finally, in relation to the character of the project, a unifying element is proposed that is present throughout the entire proposal. This is a vertical lattice, consolidating a clear rhythm and repetition between solid and void, as well as between light and shadow

Gustavo Rojas Country House was designed based on specific client requirements, including privacy, meeting spaces, relaxation areas, a connection with the natural surroundings, natural lighting, and rustic style.

With these criteria in mind, an austere proposal is presented, where the facades showcase the contrast between privacy and a direct relationship with the natural environment. Simultaneously, the architectural program addresses the need for interpersonal interaction through designated meeting and relaxation spaces.

Concerning natural lighting, a skylight system is proposed in the roof for corridors and gathering spaces, allowing effective illumination and ventilation throughout the residence.

Ultimately, in terms of the house’s criteria and style, the intention is to blend rustic and minimalist design concepts, resulting in a series of balanced and avant-garde environments that express timelessness and sophistication in the countryside dwelling.
