A new era for student journalism at SJPIICD
In 2023, St. John Paul II College of Davao celebrated a major achievement when its student publication, JP Chronicles, was revived after being inactive for nearly five years. The revival of the newspaper was a beacon of hope for the college community, sparked by the passion and commitment of not only the composing but also editing personnel Mr. Louie Jay R. Caloc is now regarded as the moderator of JP Chronicles. Therefore, the JP Chronicles is set to become a 'fair' situation where students can express themselves freely where they can see the joy and excitement of journalistic excellence.
The new editorial board is led by the Editor-in-Chief, Jason Villasis, who heads the diverse and motivated editorial team dedicated to capturing and expressing student emotions and stories. The team is headed
by three editors, namely, Associate Editor Louiella Corrinne Jean C. Cabanig, Managing Editor Arcel M. Malvar, and News Editor Lea A. Casinginan, who combined their efforts to ensure that the newspaper is in compliance with the highest standard of press ethics and the newspaper's competence. This executive's creative side is being processed by Social Media Manager Hiroshi Gean R. Macabenta, Literary Editor Verginia L. Lagrada, and Sports Editor Nicole Faith A. Alisin. Engagement of the audience is facilitated by Head Cartoonist Emanuel Rain Cereño and Photojournalists Eula Lyn Salinasal, Lourdes Soliva, Shyziel Mendez, and John Rey S. Kobe.
The JP Chronicles is composed of an experienced group of writers and artists from the institution division. It features various topics connected to student life and academic
discussions. News writers Larsh Mariaca and Kristine Louise Reyes, and Feature writers Sophia Kryss Alexandrova I. Longhas and James Adam A. Odias, contribute interesting stories and biographical articles. The other forms of communication include writers in Literary, Danica Jane B. Mercado and Gerry Mae Diaz, and Sports writer Nikki D. Dalongdong, and Opinion writer Fheillmar Mabasa, who produce prompts for dialogue and contemplation. The creative layout artists and graphic designers Judel Bagisan, Michael Y. Fernandez, Mark Jophet Borbon, and Alex Jr. Digamon are the ones designing for the PubMat in Literary and Creatives.
Group members’ efforts are extended by community contributions, adding scope and diversity to the publication, with notable contributions from Literary writer Joshua Malinao and Video editors Glydel
Despojo, Alvin Ubanan, Christian Usod, Chester Greg Plaza, and Mark Jay Mijares. The literary writers and video editors behind the JP Chronicles offer much more than a singleplatform experience, engaging the audience and making them curious to read on. By announcing the ascendancy of JP Chronicles, more than just the magazine as a medium or publication, it marks the coming into the life of student voices and the revival of a missing conversation forum. This refurbished forum will record highlights and activities within the college and function like a laboratory, and their editorship will be sharpened among the students.
Their calm and cooperative behavior manifests the school's incredible fortitude and uniting capability. The synergy between the new talent and wisdom will propel JP Chronicles into a legacy with a lasting influence on the campus and its community.

Participates at the 3rd Hawaii International Conference on English Language and Literature Studies (HICELLS 2024)
SJPIICD participated in the Third Hawaii International Conference on English Language and Literature Studies (HICELLS 2024), with the theme: "Innovations in Language and Literature Pedagogy: Navigating
Multiliteracies for Effective Teaching and Learning," alongside educators and scholars from across the globe. The conference was held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City on May 15-16, 2024. Among the distinguished participants from SJPIICD were Dr. Amie P. Matalam, Louie Jay R. Caloc, LPT, MAEd and Darryl
Imperial, LPT. The presence of these experts highlighted the college's commitment to academic excellence and its devotion to be informed about the latest developments in language and literature studies. The conference featured keynote lectures from eminent scholars worldwide. Dr. Willy A. Renandya from the
National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore was the first keynote speaker. Dr. Nathanael Rudolph from Kindai University in Japan was the second featured speaker.

St. John Paul II College of Davao has again demonstrated academic excellence with outstanding results in the March 2024 Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT). The college's Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) program boasted an impressive first-time takers' passing rate of 93.26%, significantly surpassing the national passing rate of 58.78%.
Similarly, the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) program showcased exceptional performance, with first-time takers achieving an 87.50% passing rate, well above the national average of 46.67%.

St. John Paul II College of Davao celebrates sportsmanship and camaraderie in an annual sixday celebration that showcases the skills and abilities of JPCeans.
Students from senior high school and college departments demonstrated teamwork and cooperation by showing their competitiveness in sports and games on the 2024 intramurals.
In this event, the defending champion for eight consecutive years, the Engineering department, showed excellence with an overall score of 3,150 points by participating in sports and board games while ensuring 1st place in a significant event the cheer dance competition.
The student president of the Engineering Department, Jericho Pogoy, witnessed Tangerine Tigers' effort at the event. In an interview, he
stated, "Everybody was willing to contribute to their part and more. That was when I knew we had the chance to win again."
Moreover, the program head of Computer Engineering program, Engr Dy Medel, stated that the Tangerine Tigers are "competitive in nature" and "motivated to win." She added that the department is closely monitored due to its population, allowing the student leaders to initiate an effort to maintain student discipline and motivate the participants.
The contribution of students in each department highlights their hard work and dedication. Student leaders and faculty helped promote goals that motivated them. Highlighting the collaborative effort, the engineering department's championship title for eight consecutive years showed its commitment to reaching a shared goal.

As we celebrate, it begins with an OPM singing contest and an on-the-spot poster making competition awarding, highlighting the artistic talents and competitive spirit of trueblooded JPCeans. The singing contest opens with a remarkable performance by Ms. Phoebe Escosar and Mr. Kevin Ballos from the College of Teacher Education. Their rendition of "Makita Kang Muli" by Sugarfree captivates the audience, securing them the top spot. The College of Criminal Justice Education and Business Administration also put on impressive displays,
clinching the second and third positions, respectively. The competition showcases the depth of musical aptitude across diverse academic disciplines, and the night is a resounding success for all participants.
On the other hand, Mr. Christopher Dayanan, representing the College of Human Kinetics, tops the onthe-spot poster making competition. Afiery passion engraved in a young soul's heart, an artistic sense of duty awakened towards artistry. We have once again realized that "art" can come to life in many forms not just through canvas and paint brushes but also through makeup.
The name is Monsor Abdur, also as Abdur in the makeup industry. He is taking Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and is in his second year at St. John Paul II College of Davao. Abdur is one of the talented makeup artists that the digital magazine "Nylon Manila" highlighted. They were promoting the outstanding spirit of the youth anticipating the expressive and inventive soul of doing makeup along with the engagement of the younger Millennials and the budding Generation Z audiences. Abdur is one of the known TikTok influencers in this day and age. Considering his skills in makeup, many Millennials and Gen Zs follow him on the TikTok app. Abdur’s make-up skills were not the only remarkable thing about him, recently, he was featured in Vogue Philippines for his unique beauty highlighting his micro bangs and confidence.

Fresh from a successful stint as a former SJP Saints Basketball Varsity team captain from 2009 to 2010, he brought a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective on coaching. He is known for his clear vision and determination, which laid the foundation. His first move was to foster a culture of discipline and
excellence. He believed success was not merely about winning games but cultivating a mindset that embraced hard work, resilience, and teamwork. What sets Coach Howard apart is his versatility. His approach is holistic. He emphasizes not just physical skill but also cognitive grit. Athletes under his guidance undergo strict training that tests their limits. Yet, his motivational advice, ability to connect personally, and genuine care for his athletes' well-being make the most significant impact. Also, one of the hallmark traits of Coach Howard's leadership is his knack for identifying and nurturing talent. He has an eye for spotting potential in students who might initially appear as something other than star athletes. Under his mentorship, many have risen from obscurity to prominence, achieving feats they never thought possible.

The school is known for offering its students opportunities to laugh and relax after the usually stressful and tiring intramurals, as it frequently invites standup comedians with a knack for mixing the informative with the fun. This year's intramurals gained quite some attention as DonEkla, the popular comedic duo, was invited. DonEkla, the comedic duo of Donita Nose and Super Tekla, rose to fame fame through their joyful videos under the GMA Network and their YouTube channel, "DonEkla in Tandem," now boasting 3.21 million subscribers.
Despite their success, both have faced significant personal challenges. Donita Nose struggled with family acceptance due to her gender,
facing abuse and bullying. Life for Donita was not easy as she started working at a very young age to help her family strive against poverty. As years passed, her family began to accept her true color and identity.
Like Donita, Super Tekla experienced challenging circumstances in his life. An episode from Magpakailanman covered Tekla's life story, in which he expressed his desire to create a family of his own since he was deprived of a complete one as a child. To this day, Super Tekla has yet to achieve this ambition.
Although their partnership faced a brief split in March 2022, it was reconciled by November, allowing them to continue spreading joy to their audience. Further, their personal hardships forged their resilience, allowing them to find happiness and share it with others. SJP2CD

On the 5th of October every year, World Teachers' Day is celebrated to honor the excellence and dedication of educators. With a unique factor this 2023, St. John Paul II College of Davao celebrates the event with a twist a Teachers' Singing Competition sponsored by Dr. Ernesto E. Evangelista Jr., where teachers from different departments illuminate the stage with their incredible singing skills.
Surrounded by the warm glow of the stage lights, teachers from different departments step away from their textbooks and whiteboards to showcase their hidden talents, revealing a side of themselves that often remains unseen by their students. The quadrangle explodes into cheers and applause as their performances reach their peak, showcasing varied rendition of songs, and ultimately winning the hearts of everyone.

During her performance, few teachers from the crowd go up to the stage and start giving her lovely red roses, each rose also symbolizes how lovely her performance was. While she secures second place, Ms. Apple Jang Bahinting from the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, shines the stage with her radiant pink dress. With her own rendition of Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You, she clinches third-spot, winning an amount of P3,000.00. On the other hand, the rest of the teachers who participated in the event received a generous amount of P1,500.00 as a consolation prize, serving as a heartwarming reminder that in
