Casa Siviero Pavilion

On the southern bank of the Arno River, the surrounding site and the natural alignments of the old Italian city influence the placement of the “The Altar: Casa Siviero.” The project, centered in the beautiful Italian city of Florence, encouraged thinking that maintained the atmosphere of the medieval city and a project that blends into the environment.

inspired by the city... To create the seamless blend into the city, the history of the site was a huge factor in placeing the pavilion. Using alignments from nearby landmarks like the steps to Piazzale Michelangelo and the two towers on either side of the river that used to demarcate the old city walls, created a central focal point.

two walls... The pavilion takes its place at the eastern side of the site with only two walls seperating the bounds of the pavilion from the public gardens to the west. The structure uses a grid formed by the pre-existing cylindrical walls from the old San Nicolo water mill. The pavilion resembles a common basilica plan seen throughout the city with the progammatic wall as a “narthex”, the gallery as the “nave”, and the beautiful scenery at the far end as the “altar.”

Multi-Program Buidling in Rainey Street, Austin, Texas Rainey Street in Austin, Texas is one of the fastest growing areas in the state with what seems like a new skyscraper being built everyday. However, with the new development, the old Rainey Street is slowly disappearing, with only the old homes being used as bars. “Antes” presents a solution to bringing the old community back, while also making the area a more “liveable” neighborhood.

connected by Mexican American culture... With the site being so close to the Mexican American Cultural Center, the project focuses on how to bring the old residents of Rainey Street back with emphasis on participation and involvement from the community. The strucutre does not resemble the old neighborhood homes like the intent suggests, but instead brings a creative approach to connectivity. The wrapping floors, open plans, and lack of wall to floor interaction allows all the spaces to feel connected; a guest has the ability to see from one floor to another

decoratifs assemblage

Programmatic Skyscraper for AI4ALL Decoratifs Assemblage is a project located in downtown Houston and is a programmatic skyscraper built for AI4ALL, an organization that teaches marginalized communities how to work with code and AI. The project experiments with AI in the form of 3DGAN and is the basis for the project’s facade elements.

portfolio | 27

assemblage of parts... The project can be dissected layer after layer, starting with the skeleton, going back inside and adding the programmatic inner core, core walls, kitbashing façade elements, and then other façade elements like the art deco inspired geometries and piping.

28 | decoratifs assemblage

The building is an “assemblage of parts”. Comparing it to the likes of a human body, each element builds off each other and works together to create the whole building.

Harold L. Adams Interdisciplinary Charette for Undergraduates | Spring 2024 This interdisciplinary competition, centered around a part of the Langford parking lot focused on creating a biophilic student and community space. “The Wishing Tree” honors the legacy of the late Harold L. Adams with a tree that will bring the Bryan-College Station community together and create a long-lasting tradition.

harold l. adams... From the start, the team wanted to create a way to honor the competition’s namesake, Harold L. Adams, as well as start a new Aggie tradition. Inspired by a Japanese celebration called Tanabata, students, families, and guests, would bring an acorn from a central oak tree, and place it on a statue of Adams, saying a wish that they would have for the rest of the semester. The central tree is the focal point of the project, with the rest of the spaces and walkways rippling off it.

Adams helped design Lafayette Square in Washington D.C, and to further honor him in the design, the pathways from that porject were incorporated into the design competition. Two parallel shaped structures, one a closed space, the other a canopy, are made up of a filleted L-shape, trying to maintain a similar geometry to the surrounding A&M buildings. The closed space is a digital gallery that will constantly cycle through student work in the form of images or videos. 40 | the wishing tree
