Basilica of the Archcathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The predecessor of the present cathedral was a Renaissance church was built between 1617 and 1626. Orthodoz Church St Nicholas

St. Nicholas the Wonderworker’s Orthodox Church is on Lipowa Street. It was built in 1843 – 1846 and replaced the previous orthodox church. The building features classical architecture was erected on a Greek Cross plan in Byzantine style with a centrally situated cupola. The church bears are similarity to the Church of Saint Alexander Nevsky in St. Petersburg. It is crowned with a cupola surpassed only by a bell tower with seven bells, erected over the vestibule.

The iconostasis dates back to 1844. The interior was decorated with polychrome inspired by the St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral. Since 1959 the Bialystok church has been serving as the Cathedral for the bishop of Gdansk – Bialystok diocese. From 1994 to 1998 it also served as Polish Armed Forces’ orthodox church. The church prides itself on its reliquary with relics of saint martyr Gabriel Zabludowski and the holy icon of St. Mary. Beneath the main church there is a “lower church” of St. Seraph of Sarow. The offices and administrative units of the diocese are located in the nearby buildings which also house the Orthodox Culture Centre and the Department.

Now the area near of the town hall is closed for cars and there are some café gardens.

Bialystok Town hall is not so unique now. It was rebuilt after World War II. The town hall, as almost whole Bialystok’s centre, was badly damaged during World War II.

Open to the public since 1991, the Monte Palace Madeira occupies an area of 70.000 square meters and houses a huge exotic plant's collection, coming from all over the world, together with swans, duck's and Koi fish. The Monte Palace Museum is an ideal exhibition space nestled within the beautiful surroundings of a tropical garden.

There are three floors, two of which are dedicated to sculptures and the third houses a unique mineral collection gathered from the four corners of the world. Monte Palace Madeira, also includes one of the most important tile collections in Portugal. The tiles exhibited amidst the tropical vegetation represent several ages, coming from palaces, churches, chapels and private houses throughout the former Portuguese empire.

One of the most beautiful gardens in the region, with wonderful views over the city of Funchal, being located in one of the most peculiar farms of the city, Quinta do Bom Sucesso.

The farm is dated 1881 by the Reid family who created the garden as their private park. Today the property is open to the public.

The garden covers an area of 80,000 m² and houses a fascinating collection of diverse plant species and a research and conservation area. In addition to all these attractive features, the Botanical Garden also has a Natural History Museum and a cable car that connects you to Monte.

The statue alluding to the historical figure of João Gonçalves Zarco was made by sculptor Francisco Franco in 1927.

This historical figure is of great importance to the island of Madeira, as discoverer of the island under the command of Infante Dom Henrique, being later consecrated the first Captain Donatary of the city of Funchal.

Market of Lavradores

The Farmers Market, inaugurated in 1940, has its own architecture of the Estado Novo, in an atmosphere of excitement and joy.

The Market of Lavradores, in the center of Funchal, was inaugurated on November 24, 1940. This project by Edmundo Tavares (1892-1983) presents the architecture of the Estado Novo, and reflects the intention to make it the great supply hub of the city.

Museum of Sacred Art

Housed in a 16th century palace, former residence of the bishops of Funchal, the Sacred Art Museum is one of Funchal's oldest and best preserved museums.

The Funchal Museum of Sacred Art is housed in the former Episcopal Palace, founded in 1594 by D. Luís Figueiredo de Lemos. It is made up of collections of painting, sculpture, goldsmiths and parliamentarians, chronologically dating from the period between the 15th and 19th centuries.

Of the museum's collections, two main groups stand out: the Flemish Art, with painting, sculpture and jewelery, dating from the end of the fifteenth century to the early years of the sixteenth century; and that of Portuguese Art, from the 15th to the 18th century.

Flemish painting from the 15th and 16th centuries is distinguished not only by the great quality of the paintings but also by its large dimensions, which are uncommon in European museums.

The 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries jewelery center includes the 15th-century processional cross of Água de Pena, a 16th-century Antwerp-shaped tray and chalice, as well as the processional cross, gift of D. Manuel I to the Funchal Cathedral.

This museum has recently opened to the public a new architectural space - Torre Varanda Mirante, a structure that is typical of the Madeiran urban palaces of the 19th century. XVIII, initially intended for observation of ships entering and leaving Funchal bay.

 Convent of Santa Clara Built between 1489 and 1496, this beautiful convent features 18th-century tiled walls, Hispanic-Arab-style wooden and tile ceilings, and a collection of restored 17th-18thcentury canvases.

The Santa Clara Convent in Funchal, Madeira, is a Poor Clares convent erected in the late 15th century to collect daughters of the local nobility.

It was commissioned by the second donor-captain of the island of Madeira, João Gonçalves da Câmara, in the vicinity of his father's residence.

The convent functioned until the extinction of religious orders in the nineteenth century, when it could no longer admit novices.

Of imposing proportions and striking reddish color, this house museum is a striking presence on the steep Calçada de Santa Clara and a prominent element within the urban civil architecture of the historic area of São Pedro and the center of Funchal.

This building, formerly owned by Dr. Frederico de Freitas (1894-1978), a lawyer, notary and collector from Madeira, brings together an impressive array of works of art, bequeathed to the Autonomous Region of Madeira in 1978.

The project of the museum was completed in 1999 with the completion of the Tile House, built especially to house the eclectic and vast collection of tiles, with oriental, islamic, medieval, majolica pieces and a display of Dutch tiles.

Madeira Embroidery and Crafts Museum

A space dedicated to the history and culture of Madeira Embroidery, the museum recreates the ambience of the Romantic Period in a Madeiran home.

The IVBAM - Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts Museum is the place dedicated to the history and culture of Madeira embroidery. This museum intends to recreate the romanticism and the atmosphere of a house on Madeira Island, paying tribute to a secular art. It offers visitors a sample of items, true relics, which were produced during the course of around 150 years, attesting to the sophistication, luxury and perfection that have always been the common denominators of this art, which was transformed into an internationally recognised brand.

In addition to eighteenth and nineteenth century furniture, Hepplewhite and Sheraton, in the Victorian style of the end of the century, the centre also has a collection of pieces of Madeira embroidery produced between the 1860s and the 1930s. These pieces are displayed in environments that were recreated for this purpose.

The museum portrays the life story of Madeiran player Cristiano Ronaldo and boasts the trophies won by the Portuguese international throughout his brilliant career.

The CR7 Museum is the place where the history of Cristiano Ronaldo is portrayed and where the 126 individual and collective trophies won throughout the career of the Portuguese footballer serving clubs Andorinha (Madeira), Nacional (Madeira), Sporting (Lisbon) are exhibited. , Manchester United (United Kingdom) and Real Madrid (Spain).

The museum was opened on December 15, 2013 and has an exhibition area of 400 m2.

The L-shaped floor was paved with Portuguese pavement and decorated with the CR7 symbol.

Levada is the name given to an irrigation canal or aqueduct flanked by a pedestrian path, specific to the island of Madeira, Portugal. They are also called channeled to the usually smaller canals that carry water to the water mills.

In Madeira, the origin of the levadas was due to the need to bring large amounts of water from the north-facing slopes, where the easiest dwelling abounds to the south side of the island and where most of the plantations have always been , in particular sugar cane.

Levadas began to be built in the 16th century, and the most recent ones date from the 1940s, supplying water for hydroelectric power plants as well as for irrigation purposes.

This small trail is 1.5 km long and lasts 1:30 hours and starts at Ribeiro Frio, following the Levada da Serra do Faial to the BalcĂľes viewpoint, where you can enjoy superb views.

This trail starts and ends on the E.R.103 regional road in Ribeiro Frio over 1.5 km (+ 1.5 km return), with a duration of 1h30m (round trip). The trail follows the Levada da Serra do Faial giving access to the viewpoint of the balconies where beautiful landscapes are observed over the deep valley of Ribeira da Metade and the parish of Faial.

Along the way there are indigenous and endemic species from Madeira belonging to the ecosystem - Laurisilva Forest of Til and VinhĂĄtico, highlighting the tree species of the Lauraceae family: The Laurel (Laurus novocanariensis), the Til (Ocotea foetens), the Vineyard (Persea indica), Puff (Clethra arborea) and other species such as Uveira da Serra (Vaccinium padifolium), Heather Broom (Erica platycodon ssp. Maderincola) and Heather Molar (Erica arborea), Serra Orchid (Dactylorhiza foliosa) .

In this route, in addition to the indigenous plant species, exotic deciduous tree species such as oaks (Quercus robur) and plantains (Platanus x acreifolia) are regularly distributed along the trail.

It is often possible to spot some species of avifauna such as the finch (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), the Laundress (Motacilla cinerea schmitzi), the Blackbird (Turdus merula cabreae), the Little Parrot (Erithacus rubecula), the Manta (Buteo buteo harteti) ) and less frequently Bisbis (Regulus ignicapillus maderensis) and Trocaz Pigeon (Columba trocaz).

On clear days, you can see the Central Cordillera da Ilha, highlighting the two highest peaks, Pico do Areeiro (1817m) and Pico Ruivo (1861m), as well as Penha D´Águia (geological formation).

Laurissilva Laurissilva is the name given to a type of subtropical rainforest, composed mostly of trees of the lauraceous family and endemic to Macaronesia, region formed by the archipelagos of Madeira, Azores, Canary Islands and Cape Verde. It has greater expression in the highlands of Madeira, where is its largest and best preserved spot, having been considered in 1999 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, occupying there an area of about 15,000 hectares. In Laurisilva the most common plants are lauraceae such as laurel (Laurus novocanariensis and Laurus azorica), vineyard (Persea indica), tilde (Ocotea foetens), and barbusan (Apollonias barbujana). It is one of the habitats in the world with the highest plant diversity index per km².

Varaždin is the city of baroque, young people, music, flowers and bicycles. Little Vienna“ with rich natural legacy interwoven in parks, a must see destination, located in the North of Croatia on the southern bank of the River Drava.

With 46.946 inhabitants and the average annual temperature of 10°C, the city of Varaždin is one of the most attractive destinations to live in or to visit in Croatia. It is the tourist, cultural, economical, educational and sporting centre of North-western Croatia.

The nine-times winner of the award presented by the National Tourism board, the nomination for the Golden Flower of Europe and holder of 11 „Green Flowers“; the national award, all for the most ordered, appointed and maintained destination, speak in favour of Varaždin being the city of pleasant emotions.

Churches Varaždin's Cathedral.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary also called Varaždin Cathedral It is a Catholic church located in Varaždin, Croatia. The church is from 1997, the cathedral of the Diocese of Varaždin.

Varazdin Cathedral was built in Baroque style between 1642 and 1646 by the Jesuit order.

Varaždin Castle in the Old Town The Old Town is a medieval castle and the most important monument in Varaždin. Its construction began back in the 14th century and lasted for over four centuries, as it was built and rebuilt several times in different architectural styles. Castle’s rounded towers and the moat filled with water were constructed in the 15th century.

During the invasion of the Turks in the late 16th century, high walls with bastions were built. Over the centuries the castle has undergone many transformations. Since 1925, it hosts the Varaždin City Museum. There are several collections in the museum, like historic documents, glass, clock, ceramics, weapons, and fascinating rooms furnished in several different styles and chronologically displayed starting from Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Empire etc.

City parks There is a few parks in the city. The most famous one is The Walkway of Vatroslav Jagić.

City squares Varaždin, like any othere city has the main square. That square is called King Tomislav’s square. People of Varaždin call it Korzo. The city hall is located on Korzo. After it was remodelled and modernised, the Kapucinski square became the place for many important events. Concerts, the New Year Eve’s celebrations, farmers market and dealers fair all take place on the Kapucinski square. In the Summer, children can play in the sand that’s placed on the square in the form of the fake beach. There are wooden houses on the Square of traditional crafts in which you can buy honey products, hats, weaving products and souvenirs.

City Museums City museum of Varaždin is located on several locations. One of the locations is the castle called Old Town. There’s a permanent exhibition in it, cultural-historical department.

In the Hercer palace there is the World of Insects.

In the Sermage palace there is the Gallery of old and new artisans.

Museum of Croatian fire department in Varaždin, there’s a large amount of exhibits that show old fire trucks and old fire equipment.

The Museum of Angels

According to fine artist Zeljko Prstec, Varazdin is a town in which angels sleep. This is also the reason why he is so much professionally involved with them as a motif. Visit Varazdin’s Museum of Angels on address Silvije Strahimira Kranjcevica Street 14, and explore these winged beings and their unique world. You don’t have to be religious to enjoy the works of Prstec, as his art is opened to anyone, and will impress no matter one’s spiritual beliefs.

Cultural monuments Croatian national theatre (HNK) in Varaždin has a long tradition. HNK building is Hermann Helmer's first theater project. The theater building was built in 1873. Many plays and concerts are preformed there.

Špancirfest The most famous cultural event is the Špancirfest - a festival of street walkers. During the 10 days of Špancirfest the streets are full of performers and evenings are reserved for concerts and performances. During the Špancirfest, the city notary opens his office,“verglaš“ walks the streets and plays the verglec, we can see the city guard – „Purgari“.

About City Wallsend Wallsend, historically Wallsend on Tyne, is a town in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside, North East of England, in the traditional county of Northumberland.

Wallsend derives its name as the location of the end of Hadrian's Wall.

It has a population of 42,842 and lies 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometres) east of Newcastle City Centre.

The town has expanded greatly in terms of housing since the end of World War II, and since the 1960s. Wallsend Town Centre—including the main shopping area known as the "Wallsend Forum"—is in fact to the west of the land covered by the town. To the north of this area lies the older estate of High Farm and the new estate of Hadrian Lodge. The town centre of Wallsend is separated from the eastern areas of the town by the Wallsend Burn, a stream running through a small glacial valley from north-west to south-east and through the Willington Gut into the River Tyne.

Churches St Peter's Church, Wallsend

The Church of St Peter is a Church of England Grade II listed church located on the east side of Wallsend, North Tyneside. It was constructed to replace Holy Cross Church, which had been built c. 1150 but had fallen into disrepair by the end of the eighteenth century. The building was extensively remodeled in 1892 in the Perpendicular style to give it its present form.

Angel of the North The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture, designed by Antony Gormley, located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England.

Completed in 1998, it is a steel sculpture of an angel, 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with wings measuring 54 metres. The wings are angled 3.5 degrees forward to create, according to Gormley, "a sense of embrace". The angel, like much of Gormley's other work, is based on a cast of his own body.

The Spanish City is a dining-and-leisure centre in Whitley Bay, a seaside town in North Tyneside, Tyne & Wear, England. Erected as a smaller version of Blackpool's Pleasure Beach, it opened in 1910 as a concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and tearoom. A ballroom was added in 1920 and later a permanent funfair.

The band Dire Straits immortalized the Spanish City in their 1980 hit single, "Tunnel of Love", which from then on was played every morning when it opened. By the late 1990s the building had fallen into disrepair, and in the early 2000s it was closed to the public. A regeneration project was announced in 2011. The building re-opened as a dining-and-leisure centre at the end of July 2018.
