The Ad that has Become a Milestone

July 1 , 1941 – The Day the 1st Ever Commercial Aired on TV July 1, 1941, as the day that the first ever legal TV commercial was broadcast, goes down in history. The ad was from watching Bulova. It was broadcasted on WNBT channel operated by NBC (National Broadcasting Company) television.

Another curious thing is that the commercial aired at 2:29 p.m., just before the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies baseball game.

"The 10-second black and white spot featured the map of America along with the Bulova watch that aired with the voiceover for 9 seconds:" America runs on Bulova time. Bulova charged a total of nine dollars for its air traffic, which

included four dollars in air charges and five dollars in station charges. At that time, reports suggest that New York had around 4000 televisions.

This simple commercial by Bulova came to define the entire TV ad industry as we know it today. A natural progression to this for sure has been in video commercials produced for a variety of mediums.
